Dawnie, maybe that is your answer, wonder if they could have checked the card and found it had expired, then were suspicious about you paying by cash in case the money was obtained dishonestly. Lucky you had ID then.

They were probally just being cautious that a booking by cc is usually folllowed by paying by it and that someone elses cc hadnt been used to secure a room....

you would think they would be happy to have good old cash and not have to pay bank charges on card transactions.
And at least I dont have to think that the cc bill will be coming soon and have to pay it off.

The OH and I, lawd, I sound like a cheap version of our Elizabeth, always pay by cash for everything, and have never been challenged. We do not have cards of any type.
Going to spend a small bomb at the garden centre this afters., and I know, from past experience, they will only be too glad to take my cash.

Even in retail shops these days I ask "you do take cash don't you".A lot of places won't accept cheques these days, and I don't like cards so I can see me having to reintroduce bartering if this trend continues.

Probably so they could find you just in case you trashed the room. Or maybe you are on the run from the police?

Who knows Dawnie, the world out there has become very intrusive. Last time I stayed away they wanted a cc in case of extras, which I did not use. Low an behold a month later my cc statement showed an extra charge, when I rang it was for the mini bar, $50 worth. I had asked them to empty the mini bar before I entered the room as I had things of my own to put in the fridge. Did get my money back but it took 6 months and many letters and phone calls.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. Something to do with money laundering apparently.

I have enough washing to do as it is. :))
