Good morning Rose and all! There are those who slip in and out of our lives with purpose and reason! we often think back to when we knew them! Some say they are angels sent to guard us and guide us through life! "do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so some may be entertaining angels without knowing"!

Like Joan I wonder what happened to our foster babies. But one sticks particularly in my mind, firstly because he was barely 5 pounds and so very tiny and so hard to feed,, secondly I wonder about him because he was adopted from us by an Irish couple who immediately renamed him Shaun and they were taking him back to Ireland. This was in 1966, I have always wondered which 'side' he ended up on, was he involved with the IRA, I assumed they were going to N Ireland.

But mainly I wonder what happened to his young Mum, she was only 16 and loved him so much, used to visit him and bring him things and was not allowed by her parents to keep him, she was so upset at losing him and she was a lovely young girl. Well brought up, came from a big house, well of family, shame.

Similar story Elizabeth, i was in London a couple of years ago, and a man stopped me just up from St Martin's in the Fields, he was so polite and asked if i knew the way there, he was looking for a place just by there where he was due to start a scheme for ex prisoners, so we went and found it with the aid of my A to Z lol ...

not that I would normally advise wandering round with a stranger, but it was in a very busy area :)

Rose, I'm going to have to get out my Dory P LP now, aren't I?

Because I just figured out I've killed my computer speakers, or something, so no youtubes for me. :(

Susan LOL, no I do not think it was because of me. There was alot of disaffecred youths around here at that time.
Now that this thread has bought him back to mind, I will tomorrow, have a look and see what I can find.
Have a good evening, off now to make a Sweet and Sour Chicken LOL

Do you think he left the area due to being *turned down*, Julia?

Have you tried a *trying to find* search...or friends Reunited etc?

Julia

Julia Report 15 Jun 2010 18:11

Thank you Susan with numbers. After all these years I have never forgotten him, and would love to know what happened to him.
Who knows.

PS. I used to see his old mum and dad on that stall, winter after winter, for years, and often wondered how they managed to carry on. My heart used to bleed for them.

Yes Rose. Yet another young man.
Some almost 50 years ago I was working in the accounts office of our local, but well known, stocking factory. Naturally, we were not aloud private phone calls,in those days, but one day I had a call put through to me from Personel. It was a young man, abit older than I was at the time, asking me if I would 'go-out' with him. I thought he was abit forward, and declined. I had only seen him around the periphery of all the young people at that time, and had never really had anything to do with him. He wasn't a bad looking young chap, but not quite 'me', at that time.
Not long afterwards, he disappeared, leaving his mother and father (he was an only child), to run their family business. No-one ever heard of him again. In fact, over the years when I have mentioned his name to my contemporaries, no-one seems to remember him at all.
His parents carried on their business for years, (they had a fruit and veg, van on the market place) in our town. As the years went on, first one parent died then another, but he never re-appeared.
As I have got older, now nearly 64, I often think of him. He would be about 67/8 by now. So, I hope he found some happiness somewhere, and had his own family around him

'Scared to be alone' D Previn

We never stop to wonder
Till a person’s gone
We never yearn
To know him
Till he’s travelled on
When someone is around us
We never stop to ask
Hey, what’s behind your mirror
Hey, who’s beneath your mask
We never stop to wonder
Till a person’s gone
We never yearn
To know him
Till he’s packed
And travelled on

Sweet Marilyn Monroe
On the silver screen
Platinum reflection
In a movie magazine
Well, did you ever
Have a headache
Did your mama own a gramaphone
Did you like to be an actress
Were you scared
To be alone

We never stop to wonder
Till a person’s gone
We never yearn
To know him
Till he’s travelled on
When someone is around us
We don’t know what we’re seeing
We take a polaroid picture
To find the human being
We never stop to wonder
Till a person’s gone
We never yearn
To know him
Till he’s packed
And travelled on

Sweet beautiful Jesus
On a painted cross
Polystyrene body
With a superficial gloss
Hey, were you
Jealous of your father
Were you short
When you were fully grown
Did you like to walk on water
Were you scared
To be alone

I think perhaps tomorrow
I’ll try to make a friend
To really get
To know him
Instead of pretend
I’ll ask him if his feet hurt
Has he burdens to be shared
And if he doesn’t walk away
I’ll ask him
If he’s scared
And if he doesn’t walk away
If his eyes don’t
Turn to stone
I’ll ask him
If he’s scared
To be alone

people who touched your life very briefly?

For some reason just now i remembered a young man in the town where I once worked, he was a very gentle soul who wore a kaftan and came in to chat with my workmate and I in the shop. he had apparently been a brilliant student who had something of a breakdown with the stress of study, and given it up to 'be himself' perhaps?

and again, a youngish (30s?) man who caught the same train as mum and I once, he had been drinking meths ( he had the bottle) and no one would answer him when he asked where the train was going to, so I told him and gave him a sandwich and talked to him a bit....wonder if he ever made it? Nice looking man he would have been...such a shame when life gets that bad.
