I can't find that marriage for love nor money, Kay.

The one I found had him (or some GAF) marrying Harding in 1930 in Haltwhistle.

A bit of detail? Date, place?

George Albert Forsythe married Hannah L Nicholson.....thought maybe there was a connection with him being a marriage witness to Mary Jane,

hope it sorts its self out with cert,,,,,:}}

I hope that you don't have tp wait long for the cert. if/when you send for it.
At least you will then know if you are on the right track.

Kay cheers for that but like Janey I didn't like that one as she had the extra initial which is why I didn't pick it up the 1st time and it would have made her 18 at marriage.

I favour the birth as being MJW born Wigton of Taylor mother so I may have to send off for that birth and find out who the mother was ..that would have made MJ the eldest and several other to follow all at Wigton. It's tempting to think that it might be Mary A .....but will have to check.

The only problem with Wilson-Nicholson was that she would have been 18 in August 1931:

(and she had an extra initial). But stranger mistakes have certainly been made. ;)

There are a few Charles Wilson to Taylor marriages, outside Cumberland. Perhaps Ms Wilson came from another area and they married in her Parish.

The person that has Elsie Wilson on her tree might be able to tell you if Elsie's Dad is Charles Edward Wilson. She may even have the marriage of Elsie's parents. Which after all is one of the things you are looking for.

Who were the witnesses to the marriage of MaryJane and Desmond/ Any clues there?

Have Googled Wilson Wigton found that there seem to have been Wilson families in Wigton for a long time. Also a recent wedding (lovely photo).
Beware though, there is also a Wigton in Scotland, where a Margaret Wilson was martyred in the Civil War!

I don't suppose you have MJW's death cert -- the date of death would be one teensy bit of info to narrow down her date of birth.

Do we assume it's Desmond you're related to? So you know of any children of him and MJW, etc.

One married Costigan 1919 Cockermouth, so no help there either.

The older one died 1958 Wigton, aged 75 - don't see a death for the other. He could be the J J King died 1918 in WWI, Durham Light Infantry.


Oh, I looked at CWGC for CEW dying in WWI, but there didn't seem to be an obvious match. (No parents in Cumberland, e.g.) And Mary Jane would have been conceived before WWI started, so a visiting soldier isn't as likely.

I'm editing as I go along to keep it all together ...

yes there are several Wilson/ taylor births after mary Jane which would make her the eldest and rightly so as Charles would have only been 20 at her birth, but I can't find a marriage or as Janey has discovered a death for him. (that's Charles edward bloody Wilson )

Even if the names sound unrelated, there could have been a married sister or some such, and we could hunt around for a connection.

If she was 17 in August 1931, don't forget that she could have been born as early as August 1913 (almost 18 at marriage), up to August 1914 (just turned 17 at marriage).

The death was registered in Q2 1947, so if she was 33 already, she was born between August 1913 and June 1914 (or as early as March, depending on the actual date of death).

Desmond Aikin born c1909 died 1986 Carlisle.

I can't find a Charles E/Edward Wilson death in Cumberland from 1913 up to 2005, for info.

Uzzi, just cheked for births of Wilson + Taylor children in 10b Found some in Wigton (plus some in Whitehaven).

One of the births in Wigton is Elsie born 1916.

It looks as if someone else on genes has Elsie on her tree. (born Cumberland in 1916)

Perhaps worth contacting her to see if it is the same family.
