why dont doctors and nurses read a patiants note,s properly? my wife went for a mri today they wanted to give her an injection which contained iodine to which she is highly alergic to its on the front of her file in bold red ink. the last time she had it her heart stopped. when she told the the nurse was very abrup with her and said that she had to have it or no mri, any way she was seen my a doctor who said she could have it with out.

We wont ever know the answer to that question!!!

My hubby had a heart attack 5 weeks ago aged 45...the nurse asked how home life was ......I tried to say and she said
"hurry up I havent got alday"

Now my hubby wont see her and says as she is the practice nurse and our GP is her hubby she should have some manners and if she didnt want to know why ask

My problem is now he has NO care and has a heart defect which was the reason for the heart attack anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they mean the careless .....but they couldnt care so.....

I,m so pleased you have made a complaint , Sadly my hubby wont so that leaves me with more stress

Next time DONT leave anything to chance tell them as soon as you get to the hospital or doctors...

Hope your wife is ok now and she isnt to put of but what has happened

I think you have a legitimate right to complain .Especially for something like that.

I am allergic to morphine, and after one of my surgeries I was given it even though I had the red band on my rist saying I had allergy. I was unable to speak after the surgery and being so poorly did not know they were giving it to me, until a couple of days later when I came round and a male nurse said he would get me some morphine and I managed to point to the band .

Michael, can your wife not carry something to say that she is allergic to iodine ,like those medic alert bracelets.

Then your wife has been treated very badly and you must make sure you see this complaint right through

I think it's a case of the few doctors that give all doctors a bad press, if you know what i mean. For most part i think doctors and nurses deserve every penny they get. It is not an easy job at the best of times. Please don't let the few doctors crush your faith in the good ones.

Good luck

hi5exyi do agree with what you say it,s just that she was very much on edge asthe reason for mri is that they found a lump on her vocal cord which is affecting her speech so you can imagin what going though her mind .the big c.she just dont need the stress.

I was once told by a Rheumatology consultant a few years back that because of the data protection act he did not have access to the records relating to my husband written by the Diabetic consultant as only my husband can give permission for him to see it. I was shocked to think that he was not being treated as a whole person, just the bit that applied to each consultant that from this date I have carried a synopsis of treatment plans from each department.

It came in handy as my husband now gets a copy of all letters and was surprised when his Warfarin was stopped and I rang the Anticoagulation clinic to cancel his appointment and discovered they had not received any notification and was asked to send them a copy of the letter.

I too would complain if I or my husband had been treated so badly. The serious ramifications of administering something known to cause an allergic reaction does not bare thinking about.
