went down town with hubby the other day me in wheelchair him pushing me, one shop in particular crams so much in the aisles we cant get round and then when we can people just stop dead and even look at you but dont move out the way (not everyone but a lot) and even when you are going down the main streets they walk in front of you bet if we clipped them it would be our fault.

Then taking Tiddler to school on my scooter there is a snack van parked near the indiustrial estate and where all cars park for school yesterday a coach parked in an entrance and today a skip lorry in same place, means i had to cross the road but couldnt see round them and the snack van yeterday a bloke ran from the snack van to help me cross and make sure the road was clear. wont mention number of cars round and about that park over the drop kerbs which i main point up and down for pedestrians (not driveways)

Sorry rant over

You rant away.

Everyone should have lessons in a wheelchair as part of their driving lessons, perhaps then some people might just be more considerate!

Don't hold your breath though.

Sue (who uses a crutch and still gets the 'ump)

rant away Dawnie because you are right.

I always knew the hassles of wheels chairs due to my nephew being a tetraplegic, but when I busted my ankle and was in a chair I used to go out with my pool team ..... Now most places were good as they knew me as the guv.
One place totally ignored me and asked the lads their order, errrrr excuse me I'm paying and I have a mouth on me. Another the customer just barged past me not seeing a ruddy bright blue cast stuck out, fell over my foot and had a go at me ! I didn't swear the landlord did that for me !
I have to say that I tried shopping once in a shopping centre and that as enough, even being pushed in said chair it was never again. My heart goes out to you.

So you rant away ......and remind the beggars that one day they may be in one also (if you haven't run them over first :-) )

Dawn you have my sympathy,
When l had OH in his wheelchair l pushed him to the passenger door of the car and as l was helping him in another driver beeped me and told me to get a move on................won't tell you my reply (lol) but ended up taking my time.
Rant does us good now and again, lol.

It's bad enough when I had to use a walking stick before my hip was done. It's so difficult to weave in and out of people and around things, and so painful, yet people would walk straight leaving me to turn to avoid them.

But, it's not until you are in that situation yourself that you realise just how difficult it really is, even the simple things like weaving between people.

funny stories about wheelchairs and my nephew.

Neptune used to play pool but due to handicap was allowed to have somebody bridge for him. Smart Alek person thought they could walk the game. When he started to lose he got abusive and when he lost said that spastics shouldn't be allowed to play in the league. Neptune was 20 at the time and spent a lot of time in the push chair rather than his electric chair so he waved the chap down and asked him to repeat what he said.
The chap did, Neptune belted him one. Using a push chair had build up arm and shoulder muscles the chap went down to cheers of BOTH teams.

He has a special adapted car so that the back drops down and the chair goes straight up the ramp and is clamped into place. There are notices on the back of the car about clearance need for this. He got blocked in once and called the police and tow truck to remove the offending car. He was in a hurry. The car owner came back as it was lifted and she complained and phoned OH, he arrived. etc etc. The tow truck said the wheels are lifted too late. The OH had a right rant at neptune shouldn't be in a car etc etc and yes Neptune did it again ....come hear and say that ! Thankfully the police turned a blind eye.

I will say mind where he lives it is known that he was in the navy when he broke his neck.
