Har har -- no Dizzi, I hadn't seen it (til your PM mentioned it)!

I shall copy it and pass it on.

You all should be careful. My mum might turn out to be a bit of a handful. She's had to put up with the narrow-minded small-towners in the senior cits building where she moved to several years ago for a while now, and it's resulted in her not biting her tongue about things as much as she might have some time ago.

She's banned from a gifte shoppe in the mall in the little town because she objected rather forcefully to the quite obscene (and misogynist) fake car licence plates on a stand on the counter right by the till.

We did go in last week so she could show me how much the owner looks like Sarah Palin. (My mother thinks Sarah Palin is a vile moron, of course!)

We walked to the back of the store and passed a rack of things passing as greeting cards that were about as bad as what she had objected to last year. A handwritten sign on the rack said that if you didn't like them (I forget how it phrased the problem), you shouldn't read them.

Well, when they were at child-eye height and you didn't have to open them to see what they were saying, that kind of resembled a barn door. Undoubtedly the note was in response to the prudish old lady who had complained. ;)

Well I do think getting banned from a gifte shoppe is quite an achievement -- one that I can only aspire to at present!

She'll just have to make up her own name if she decides to sign on!

I was sacked from school tuck-shop. My kids were rather proud of me at the time.

Well SueMaid.

Now you have to tell us what you did. You know.

I was once fired for calling my "principal" ... well how did it go ... one of the visiting big-city lawyers at the small town gathering-of-the-bar dinner I was made to attend to represent the firm, me an articling student, said:

Well, so you're articling for ...................
(Even his name was stupid. Think Dandleberry or some such.)
Dickensian figure, isn't he?

I took this as licence to mutter something about masters and serfs, I believe, Scrooge and Cratchit being the first thing that came to my mind.

Turns out big-city lawyer was just referring to his girth and spectacles and general pompous and idiotic presentation. They were actually old pals.

Next morning just before lunch I was literally called on the carpet and sacked. It being October, and all articling positions in the province having been filled by September 1, this left me in a bit of a pickle, as they well knew.

I returned after lunch to get my stuff and was called back in, them evidently taking much pleasure in telling me that they had given the matter further consideration and had confirmed their original decision. I took greater glee in telling them I'd lined up a job in Toronto over lunch.

Ah, living well and best revenge and all that! I count that sacking as among the top 10 best things ever happened to me. ;)

Except for the fact that the big-city lawyer in question was head of Legal Aid in the place where I eventually practised ...

Well, ladies.............all I did was complain about the crispy cockroach in the pie warmer and the dried beetroot juice in the bottom of the fridge. When I turned up for my next shift the canteen supervisor was waiting for me and told me that they had had a meeting and decided that if that's the way I felt then I shouldn't be working there. I went straight to the principal who told me that he would rather lose me than the supervisor and he didn't intend getting involved. Half a dozen other ladies walked out in protest and I was blamed for causing problems for the school children. My oldest two were in high school so it didn't affect them and my youngest lived on the notoriety for the rest of the year. Yay mum!!!!!

Are we taking bets on how long Janey's Mum will last before she awarded her first stint on the norty step???

Oops forgot. And we had better call her Ms Canuck. It's only fitting and proper, unless of course she would prefer Mrs Canuck!!
