Can anyone please tell me how to go about getting in touch with GRO who have sent completely the wrong Certificate. Name is nothing like I asked for. Ordered on 3rd June and it arrived today - much too quick for them.
Many thanks
Phyll

Phone them on 0845 603 7788. It is a free call on some UK landlines I believe.

Thanks Leona and AuntySherlock. Have e mailed today. I asked for the death cert of a boy aged 6 and got a woman of 93 - some difference eh!

Sounds to me that they may have got the orders mixed up.
Wonder who got the certificate for the boy aged 6!! LOL

I would like to know who's got my certificate too. If they are on here perhaps they'll let me know, although they're probably as cross as I am. I have got Susannah Brown aged 93 and want William Latham aged 6.

You're probably right about the cost making people think twice about ordering. Thanks for replying, Jan and Annie G.

You could ring them and explain what has happened if you don't get a reply to the email you sent..

And if you are on a telephone service with free calls, instead of 0845 603 7788, try using this site
http://saynoto0870.com/numbersearch.php
and this number from there 01704 569824

I think that's as cheap as you will get talanya. If you order them through A******y, they are £22.99 !!!! Cx

Hi Piglets Pal

I'm very happy with the service, it's the price that niggles me! Anyhow, I haven't had 'wrong' certificates sent at all only if I've taken a guess at the relative and it just so happens not to be the right one!

Is there anywhere in particular where 'wrong' certificates are 'advertised'/shared? I have a couple at least!

Thanks again all.

Have a look at the freeBMD site. People have added postems to some of the entries if they have certs. They give the info shown in the cert so you can either avoid sending for it if it is not your rellie or you can save money by not sending for it if it is your rellie (if all that makes sense) or you can send for it anyway if it is your rellie, knowing that you have the right one. And if you add your certs, whether they are the right or wrong ones, you could help other people.

Just to let you all know that I phoned GRO and told the lady what had happened. She fell about laughing and then said she would send the correct certificate. I received it today and YES it was the little boy I was looking for - died of Typhus fever. Terrible to think what people went through not so long ago.
Thanks for all the advice give.

Hi Phyllis,
Where I can I usually go to the archives and search for the Baptism, marriage or burial and get them photo copied. On marriages you normally get the same info for about 60 p instead of £9 25, if you are lucky you sometimes get the date of birth on a baptism and the date of death on a burial, this way it only costs time.
