My mother was 95 when our first grandchild was born in Canada late one night, our time. She could not understand how we were able to take photos to show her in the morning.

My uncle, Ralph Atkinson, was killed in action during WW11
He was a stoker first class in the Royal Navy.
His corvette, Blubell was torpedode and sank escorting Russian convoys.

Due to the internet I can now get the name, rank and serial number of every officer and rating.
I can get the latitude and logditude ofr the incident and the exact time that it occured..

I can get the name of the submarine and its captain's name and his military history.

Yet my Grand Father had to wait almost a week to be told by the Admiralty that his youngest son was lost, presumed dead.

How's that for an improvement in communication?
