My girls are doing the gardening this year, because I can't. We have a old Bbq shaped like an oil drum, that they planted last year with some bedding plants that looked really nice. Now this year they have brought a load of herbs and planted them in there instead. What I would like to know is could they put some small flowering bedding plants in between the herbs to give some colour interest.
Thank you
Helen

marigolds are good.... they brighten it up brilliantly.... and if they are dead headed they'll lst right through until the first frosts.. that is assuming you have fairly compact herbs in there?

In my humble opinion, I would just keep it to herbs. Such a brilliant idea, but I think other plants would spoil it. Maybe a Rosemary in the centre, which will flower (can't remember when without looking it up), chives, sage (lovely coloured leaves), marjoram at the edge - golden leaves, could hang over the side, a couple of varieties of thyme, oregano (which also flowers) - there are so many choices - it could be a patchwork of colour and will look stunning. A right herbeque!

Very good idea, Barbra. Puss, is your bay tree in a pot or the ground?

Nasturtiums would add colour and you can use them in recipes too.
