I'm sooooo angry. I upgraded to gold membership ages ago but have waited for GR to get the 1911 census to really get the stubburn part of my tree growing. I stayed loyal to GR rather than go to another site who already had the 1911 census and what happens? I can only view the 1911 census if I upgrade to platinum membership costing far more than I can afford to pay!!!! It's so unfair and I suspect will lose GR many members who don't want to be ripped off. Am I the only one who feel this way?

i think there will soon be a lot more complaints like yours.
Better to buy a few credits for the official site or ask on TTF first

The pay per view credits aren't bad value but then again I don't have gold membership.

I'd probably feel the same as you if I did!

Realistically there was no way that GR could bring the 1911 census without charging a premium.

FMP, of which GR are now a part, have to recoup their costs for transcribing it, and they were not going to allow a 'back door' access without paying for the privilege. No rip off.

Sorry but I have been a member of FMP since 2002 and I still have to pay extra to view the 1911 census.

Well I see I am not the only one. I have now complained to Trading Standards and to Watchdog on the BBC. I suggest everyone else who is miffed does the same. We have paid for a Service and should get it, if they want to charge extra when my membership is up fine, I then have a choice. Have you all noticed they changed the T&C without prior notice. Again breach of contract saying that our continued use is acceptance of the new T&C. That is illegal. If they do that then they have to terminate the current agreement and refund all paid membership then charge for the new Gold and new Platinum. I will not let it drop and will make a claim in the courts if I have to.

Spongebob, but when you paid for Gold ( if that's your sub) , that did not include 1911, so you HAVEN'T paid for it, every one who uses the 1911 by any means , is having to pay 'extra' for it.

As for alteration to T & Cs I think you will find

" We reserve the right to change these Terms in our sole discretion from time to time by posting the amended Terms on the homepages of the Websites. Your continued use of the Genes Reunited Service after changes are posted indicates your acceptance of those changes. If you do not wish to be legally bound by any future amended Terms then do not continue to use or access the Genes Reunited Service. "

That was pretty much what was in T & Cs when I signed up I believe.

Imposing changes to T&C and forcing people to accept them is in its own right classed as "unfair" T&C under english law.

Even if you do pay extra for 1911 census on GR, you only get to see transcripts (which are often error prone) and NOT the original documents. You'll still have to go elsewhere and pay extra to do that. So why bother? I wish I hadn't.
