I emailed GRO with a request for advice re a search I am doing. Received this response this morning. I am in Australia.

"Thank you for your enquiry.

You may wish to consider contacting the GRO Contact Centre, telephone number 0044 845 603 7788 Monday - Friday 8.00am - 8.00pm & Saturday 9.00am - 4.00pm and request a search for the birth of FWH.

On the standard service the fee is £9.25 and takes three weeks to process an application. For this standard fee we will undertake to complete a three year search of the records. If you wish additional years to be researched the fee is an additional £9.25.

Alternatively we offer a priority service the fee is £23.40 per three year search and takes two working days to process.

Regards, "

If you send them an email with a question, rather than just an order for certificates you need to put GQ and a space before and after the subject in the subject line. That way they will read your enquiry.

It was cheaper at one time, as I rang up and the price over the phone was more than ordering online - perhaps it is the same now the prices have gone up.

Not sure that it is cheaper, but is certainly a lot less hassle.

You've obviously got internet connection, so why don't you order online? It'll be quicker than posting.
