I haven't subscribed to it but have been in contact with someone who has and you don't get the same details when viewing the image.

On findmypast you get the actual household which your ancestors filled in but on here you get the enumerators page for the street.

I think it would have caused a lot of trouble if they had allowed gold members to view it free when you have to pay extra on Find my Past. It was probably a condition of GR having it that they charged extra.

Anyway

why should you be disgruntled?

Do you want something for nothng??

The owners of FindMypast, BrightSolid, paid big money to the government to get the rights to transcribe and digitize the 1911 census 2 years in advance of the official release date of 2011

That company has all rights to the 1911 Census ............ and thus they are going to charge for access to it

The only reason that I can see for GR getting access now is because they are now owned by BrightSolid.

there are at least 3 threads on boards on this topic

On General Board

1911 Census by Alan

Don't be misled

GR is the most expensive and inefficient way to view any census, let alone the 1911.

Hi Oldbean
I never knew saw anything about platinum membership until they announced they now had the 1911 census so they must have done it at the same time

Hello all

Yes, I too decided to renew my Gold Membership this month in anticipation of being able to view the 1911 census, if I had known this I would have paid extra to join Ancestry instead. I do wonder if it is my own fault and didn't spot that an upgrade to Platinum is in any small print and I missed it! Perhaps someone may enlighten me please.

Hi Andrea
I too am a gold member and find it disgusting that we have to pay and upgrade to platinum to be able to view the 1911 census as if what we pay already is not enough
