Hi all,

I am due for my blood tests in the next couple of weeks. I need to have them 3-4 weeks prior to my appt to ensure that my specialist has them available when I go in to see him. I will be at hospital on December 16. Had a bit of a chest infection recently but seem to be over the worst of it. Am having issues with my legs swelling, not sure whats happening there but will wait to speak with my doctor.

hi everyone. glad all is ok with you.

annie hope your leg swelling has gone down a bit and you are over your chest infection. bad time of year for those.

lorraine so glad the chemo is going well for the two dads, makes all the differnce when things go to plan.

puss how are things going for you and how is mum doing. will you be haveing a family gathering together at xmas or do you all do your own thing?

i am off to inverness hospital on monpm and going to theatre around 10 am for my sinus op on tuesday. i hope to get back on wednesday assuming there are no complications. last time i was in recovery for 5 hours with breathing problems because of my astma.

so heres hoping it will be ok. i wont be on here much before the weekend so hopefully will have lots to read and catch up when i do.

hi sylvia, puss and lorraine. well im back and ever so glad. it was a nightmare going on the plane as it was delayed by 5 hours and yes i was so sick on the plane, it was awful. not due to the weather, but i had the bug that was going around and it just decided to come at the wrong time. i finally reached inverness at 10 pm, cold, shaky and not well.

however in the morning i felt fine and trotted over to hospital at 7.30am. got told mid morning wasnt going for op intil 4pm. i was so thirsty and dehyrated, it was awful. anyway, op went ok, had oxygen for an hour and then by 8/9 pm came round and felt ok. no bruising at all.

wed left hospital at 11.30am and went to airport. got told at 2pm plane was cancelled as it had broken down and no replacement was available. so i had to get a bus and then a 3 1/2 hour ferry. yes i finally got home at 10pm.

and now after all that exposure to the elements i have a nasty chest infection, which thankfully i have my steroids and antibiotics to blast it away. not going back to work tomorrow so i can rest and get my strength back.

the growths they removd from my nose should be benign the consutant said, it is quite unusual for them to be cancerous, so im not too worried but obviously will have to be patient for results, which i understand can take several weeks.

i am going to bed tonight and hope i can sleep better than yesterday, as i was coughing nearly all last night and this gave me a sore head.

there sorry to make this a long saga, i think i just needed to get it off my chest, excuse the pun!

hope everyone else is ok and not too affected by the bad weather.

Hi to everyone.

Hope you are all well.

I had my appt with my specialist yesterday. They are not overly concerned with the minor abnormalities in my lung function tests so will continue to monitor this. I did mention to him that last sunday I was experiencing severe pain in my left lung area which lasted for about 5 hours. He noted this and will continue to monitor.

The leg swelling comes and goes. He feels this is a side effect of the medication.

Also the bone pain I get is now everyday in my arms and occasionally in the legs. I told him that i am having to take more codeine than prescribed on bad days to get any kind of relief and that sometimes this doesn't work. He has increased my prescription for codeine and also added ibuprofen so I can take this also and have now got pills to help settle my tummy so I don't suffer so much acid reflux.

On a more positive note the leukaemia levels are continuing to decrease which is good. I don't know how low they are but am happy that it is still on a decline.

One funny thing that happened was he needed to have a feel of my tummy so I told him that my tummy had swelled too and that there was plenty of it there so he won't miss it when he tries to feel it LOL : ) I was looking at my partner when I said it and he promptly went bright red with laughing and I was laughing so much I had watery eyes and started coughing.

hi annie, good to hear from you. the pain in your lung isnt pleuresy is it? can they xray to see if you have any fluid in the lung? glad you are getting some more pain relief, theres nothing worse then being sore. glad your levels are reducing too, that is a good sign as well.

unfortunately as with a lot of medication , there are always side effects and nothing much we can do about them. my recent dose gave me thrush as they always do, but now i am a lot better and have finshed all the tablets, so getting back to normal.

hello its truley lovely to hear from you all, plane saga seemed horrendous just when you didnt need it too, glad your all being kept an eye on, im missing dad reall bad i havent been able to right a christmas card this year inface ive got specky and son decorating, i still keep waiting for him to walk thro my door larger than life just cant believe he has gone, but u know its such a pleasure to see u all getting on and hopefully drawing as as your given comfort to others, take care all try and have a lovely xmas love to u all xxxx

hi puss, lovely to hear from you too. yes this xmas will be your hardest im sure, but with your family you will get through. never mind the cards this year, people probably wont expect them anyway.

my aunty, mums sister died on wed at midnight. very sad. she was my favourite and she had been in a home for a while. but in the last week, suddenly went down hill very fast. i think it was pneumonia.

thats 2 aunties i have lost since october. unfortunately, they are all getting near the 80 mark or just past it so i guess anything is expected.

but aunty went quick and peacefully and couldnt wish for more than that. her funeral is next tuesday, but being so far away from sussex and also we have blizzards and storm force winds tonight, i wont be able to go.
all our schools are shut ufn, so day off tomorrow.

i will be thinking of you over xmas and new year puss and if are at a loose end, im sure there will be some of our friends on here to keep us entertained etc.never a dull moment eh?

Thanks Florence. I have had a couple of chest xrays and from what the doctors told me they were all "clear" so nothing showed up. Specialist thinks now that it is directly related to the medication I take for CML. It is very frustrating to me as just doing the simplest thing can have me out of breath very quickly, and the chest pains really scare me.

So sorry to hear of your loss Florence. As you said at least it was peacefull which is all any of us can hope for.

Hi Puss good to hear from you. Hopefully the holiday period won't be to bad for you although I do expect that it will be a very emotional one. How is you mum doing? Hope she is ok. All you can do is take one day at a time and gradually work through the grief. Never be afraid to talk about it with us all as I am sure talking will help.

We have been having some very warm and very humid weather here lately. Just in the last few days a bit of rain as well. I am hating the heat, its disgusting. I would much rather be over there with you all with the cold and the snow. I have always loved winter more than summer.

I am next off to hospital for my clinic with the specialist on 17 March, which funnily enough is St Patricks day. I must try and remember to wear something green.

hi all, just want to wish evryone a very happy and healthy new year.

sadly for me having just lost an aunty on the 15 dec, did not my uncle age 82 pass away yesterday afternoon. he was in hosp for a urine infection and a high temp. my aunty left him at 3pm and by the time she got home, the hosp rang and said he had died. very sad. there will be a post mortem as we dont know how or why just now. what with the holidays, it may be a couple of weeks before he can be buried.

so a bit of a sad end to the year for my my family. there are only 3 sisters left now. my mum and 2 aunties.

lets hope 2011 will bring happier times for everyone

Florence, that does seem strange, your uncle dying like that. He just may not have been able to stand up to the infection. Sadly, this time of the year is when many old folk die. Sorry for your losses, and wish you a better New Year.

puss, im sure xmas was emotionally draining for all of you this year, but you got through and so did your mum and the rest of the family.

my husbands father died 2 yrs ago 24 jan 09 and still at the table, we miss him, although this year wasnt as difficult as the first, so in time it improves, but there was still an empty place.

today his wife, my mil was 80 and we had a dinner and special cake with all 18 of the family to celebrate. the day was lovely and she wasnt upset until the cake was brought out and she didnt expect it. i think she was overwhelmed by it all.we all shed a little tear then because dear bampa wasnt there to share the day, but in spirit he was looking in im sure.

your dad puss, was also there when you had your fam dinner, looking and keeping an eye on you all!

I have skin cancer again for the fourth time.
i would like to start a cancer support group at our church.
1. how do i start to do this?
2.Do people want this?
3.Has anyone else started one?

Helen, I imagine all you need to do is clear it with the church wardens and vicar and then give the idea some publicity. Maybe extend the group to all cancers. Some people would find this helpful, I am sure. Any support you need is always available on here and you can express your worries and fears knowing there is always someone to listen.

Leaders are a ware of the idea,of starting this group.
Just needed help with some ideas.
