I hadn`t realised that this topic had already got a thread on General Topics. It makes good reading what others have done to get value for money

I agree. I started with a Genes membership, then they hiked the prices. So I went with Findmypast, then THEY hiked the prices. I looked at Ancestry then run away screaming. So now I don't bother.

My local library has a Findmypast and Ancestry subscription- any lookups I need done I just go and do them for free. Or you can also try your local Latter-Day Saints - they have at least some material, and the main London Family History Centre also has free subscriptions.

Frustrated genealogists - let's make the most out of our local resources!

1911 is viewable on here by buying credits.so you can use this way and still keep a basic membership,so no need to upgrage.

When I want to find someone on the 1911, I buy £5 worth of credits from FMP. It works for me.

I agree! Why should we have to upgrade to view the 1911 Census!

Am begining to feel like i`v been had. I am already a gold member. I then get a request to pay £9.95 even though my membership is valid till July and now i have to pay a further £54 to access the 1911 census. If i was a new member and paid £54 straight off i would get much better value for my money.
