Just seen on net that social services have allowed the mother(who was drinking beer on the beach) to take her baby home.

Will they never learn?

Hi Teresa,
Obviously not it would seem.
Poor little mite must have been in agony.
I hope at least they will have given the mother some info on how to keep the baby safe in future.

It made my blood boil when I read it.

If it had been an animal left in a car in the heat or neglected the RSPCA would have prosecuted and rightly so.
I am sitting fuming Cath along with most of us I think.
Its all so wrong

It makes my blood boil too. How could the mother not realise the baby was distressed surely it would have started crying.

I hope social service keep them on the radar and make her go to parenting classes.

It reported that people were telling her to cover the baby and she just sat there drinking beer.
Two community support officers went over and then called the ambulance

I'm annoyed too. Neglecting a baby and putting it's little life at risk by not covering baby up in the sun is criminal.
I'm not a killjoy but why do mothers with young children drink beer on the beach at all?..it's hideous!

I live at the coast and in this hot weather it's been a real problem for residents, with litter ie beer cans, bottles etc. spoiling the beauty of the beaches.
Must there be alcohol to have fun anymore?

Mau,we live aprox 20 miles from the coast.

Prefer walking there in the "out of season" months because the beach is much less littered despite the pier being open all year round.

Need a license to keep a dog. She should be locked up. Sunburn in childhood can lead to more serious issues in later life.

What got me was the last question on this report....

Has she (the mother) suffered enough? Never mind the b****y mother, what about the suffering of that little baby, now and in future years perhaps.
And if she is stupid enough to drink while on a beach with a baby, won't she drink at home with it, especially if she is being hassled by people?
I hope decent social workers who know and do their job properly keep a very close eye on the family and make sure that little one is never at risk again.
Stupid woman, not fit to be a mother!

A mother whose baby was left with terrible burns after being exposed to the hot sun for several hours on Brighton beach has been allowed to take him home.

Social workers questioned the woman, according to the Daily Mirror, but decided she could keep the baby.

The newspaper says that the 29-year-old mother was visited by social workers a few hours after her five-month-old boy left hospital.

He had been treated for 40% burns to his body after being taken to Brighton beach on Sunday.

Witnesses told the Mirror that the blonde mum drank beer and ignored people who asked her to cover up the baby as temperatures reached 25C.

An ambulance took the baby to hospital after police community support officers intervened.

A council spokesman in Hammersmith, West London, where the woman lives, told the Mirror: "The baby has been allowed to stay with its mother at this stage. There will be an investigation and assessment."

Sussex Police told the BBC that the baby was "doing fine" after being released from the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Police are reportedly investigating the case, but no arrests have been made.

Insp David Derrick told the BBC that police were working with the local council to consider any child protection concerns.

A burns specialist from The Queen Victoria Hospital (QVH) in East Grinstead, West Sussex told the BBC that the baby's injuries could have been potentially life-threatening.

Consultant Baljit Dheansa said the baby's skin showed signs of blistering, and this could lead to the loss of body fluids, which in a five-month-old baby could lead to dehydration, low blood pressure and kidney failure.

The mother in this case has already received a huge amount of abuse in the media - there's bound to be an outcry if no action is taken against her.

What do you think? Has she suffered enough?

The only one to have suffered is the poor baby.
