He wasn't fibbing Annx - they were probably so comfy he'd forgotten he had them on. Easily done - I was halfway to a hospital appointment (on foot) when I realised I was wearing my slippers. I just carried on, anything goes in London LOL
My fella goes out in his slippers :-D

One thing I don't like is women sauntering across camp sites in dressing gowns to the shower block - 'get a tracksuit madam, you're not at home!' LOL

Afternoon All,

Boy it's hot here now.......too hot to plant up the 2 other pots just yet.

I meant to say it was all over our local paper about those lobsters Mel. It was so lucky that that chap realised how rare they were and that they are now living at Sea Life in Birmingham, (I've been there once.) It would be good if they were a pair and they could breed them.

OH has just been to a match Peterborough way, only to find that there is only cricket going on so he is on his way home again, possibly to detour to a match at Quorn nearer home.

We went to the bed place this morning and were the only customers and have ordered the new bed. Most seem to have gliders instead of little wheels these days which will be much better on the hard floors in the bedrooms, which is another job on our list to get done soon and lose the carpets. It was funny watching OH test the mattresses with his stiff neck and achey hips and back after yesterday's weeding, so it was a good job I had my mask covering my grins, .......it speeded up him making his mind up! They are made to order and it will be delivered a week on Thursday and they will put it together in the room for us as well which is good. They will take the old one away if we want, but the lady said we may find the council cheaper so I will check that out next week.

Our SKY boxes have all stopped working again last night, after needing lots of rebooting since they brought us the new main SKY box. The messages suggest the the main box isn't connecting to the new router now but we can't even check the settings till we get a new telly as the main telly doesn't work at all now! :-S So when OH gets back we are going late to Curry's down the road to see if we can choose one from all the choices there are these days. Then we will have to get the SKY man back in to set things up again. What a palaver and MORE EXPENSE as Frank would say.

I'm nipping out in my car to see if there are any nice photo opportunities next and to charge the battery up.

I hope you soon get your appetite back Frank and Vera is right, little and often if you can manage it and keep hydrated. I think I would be avoiding the noisy children's birthday bash too.......all that shrieking as they have such big ones these days, not just having your best friend for tea!

Vera, take some photos of the plants, then you have 'evidence' if he moves them! lol. When we were away OH took his new slippers . We don't usually wear our slippers outside, but what did I see.....he was popping out to the car to get something in them, so I took a photo with his back to me so he didn't see. Fast forward next day and he was about to pop out again so I said I thought it wasn't a good idea to be getting his new slippers wet in the grass. 'Oh I never wear them outside' he protested. Out came the 'evidence' and it shut him straight up instead of the usual denial and protest. He had to laugh that I'd caught him out. We have to be on our toes with these men when they argue! lol

Good to see you Frank. If you don’t feel like eating much, just go for little and often but make sure you have plenty of liquid.

It is a beautiful day now; sunny and warm and hardly any wind. I did an hour’s gentle gardening sitting on a low stool. I planted up a couple of penstemon cuttings, weeded one tiny patch and cleared away a load of the dead daffodil leaves. I also supervised OH planting up 4 troughs with my geranium cuttings. At the moment I’ve got him trimming two globe shaped box plants but that might have been a bad move as he can be a bit clipper-happy.

We also had a discussion (that’s the polite way of putting it ;-)) about what to take out of the garden and what to leave in. He says he will plant whatever I like so how come the things I like keep being removed and the things he likes remain? It’s a good job we love each other because I think we are completely incompatible. Don’t they say opposites attract?

I took a few pictures in the garden which I’ll send round later. Meantime I’d better get some lunch for my incompatible other half.

Nice to see you Frank. Hope all your seeds come up. Ros will be pleased if the weather is like today for the BBQ.

I have sown some seeds and repotted the other Penstemon and generally fiddled around. Helped oh move the mower to the ramp. He towed it I just guided it round there. Just as well he got the big zero turn mower going as thats the only one working at the moment.

Frank Report 29 May 2021 11:04

Good morning to you all,

I had another BAD NIGHT. Feel very tired now.

I have watered back and front gardens, greenhouse and veg plot. Ros has put 4 wigwams of runners in, carrots and beetroot.See what comes up.

Ros is going to Kerry's tomorrow for a BBQ for Alexanders Sixth Birthday. It will be far to noisey for me, with all the children running around. Kerry has a very large garden, with a small river running through it. Mark has built climbing things, rope swings, and so many things to keep the children entertained.

Ros is bringing me a Roast Dinner in a tray. I will heat that, if, and when I feel hungry.
Going by what I ate yesterday, and nothing again today, I doubt t will get eaten.

I hope you are all well. Speak again soon. xxxx

Quite misty here this morning but not cold, in fact it feels humid. We are supposed to get sun today but no sign yet. Have a load of washing in of course, and have done the floors of the lounge and conservatory and straightened the lounge. I do have lots to do but need motivating as I feel a bit lost and lonely this morning. Always the same on Saturdays and I have no idea why.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 May 2021 09:03

Morning Vera mind that back but I am sure you could find something not too straining to do in the garden or supervise oh. :-D

Morning AnnG and all

Safe journey back for your daughter.

Dry at the moment with one of those milky skies that can’t decide whether to let the sun through or not.

It was a nice tea party yesterday in friend’s garden but I was glad I’d taken a cosy woollen jacket as a bit of a breeze got up. Not sure what I’ll be doing today. I really want to garden but I can feel my back pulling now and don’t want to make it worse.

Whatever you do enjoy your day.

Morning Anng and all,

Quite a bright morning here so let hope it stays that way.

That was a nice selection of plants Anng. I would love a new Rosemary bush and the other things sound lovely. You're going to have a lovely show in the garden again this year. Can't wait to see some pictures.

Have to go to the shop today fo the paper and I can spare 6 eggs for Emm then the rest of the day is mine apart from doing the chickens.

they left just after 7am with loaded up car (again) and daughter driving. Just a glass of water each, she doesn't eat breakfast anyway but he does usually. They will stop on the way I am sure. Seems very quiet now after a week of three of us. shan't see them until July now.

AnninGlos Report 29 May 2021 06:43

Good morning, up early as daughter will be off soon. dry and a bit misty at the moment.
Mel you asked what I bought. Nemesia (3), a prostrate Rosemary, a cue as the other one is not growing very well, a Thyme, a mixed pot of calibrochoa. and a verbena may be something else but I think that was all.

Its good to know you are being missed though Ann.

What a todo with your sons shopping order. You'd htink after all this time they would have got their act together with orders and not get t hem muddled up and you having to spend all that time there when you could have been doing other things.

Annx Report 28 May 2021 21:32

Oh what a game with them messing up your son's order Mandy. It's a good job you stood your ground and made them sort it properly or who knows what they would have ended up with. Good idea to send off that second test in case nothing comes of the first one. Hopefully they can go back to work after the holiday then. OH asked and got some tests from the chemist today. It's a good idea with venturing out more as you can spread it without having symptoms. . Yes, I expect the phone queue must have been worse because of the Bank Holiday as you say. We can't even walk in to make an appointment now either. Yes it will be nice to get a sunday lunch again. There shouldn't be any problem like before as they are delivering them to your address again, but it's free delivery now so even better. Yes, you do get the gossip don't you. Mind you I don't think men get get to know as much as us ladies! :-) lol. Apparently they were asking about me as they hadn't seen me for ages and wondered if I was ok! :-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 28 May 2021 21:28

Mel obviously the heavy rain won’t have helped I don’t know how much rain they had here though. The baskets are the plastic ones we have had for years, no liners but drainage holes. I think I may have used different compost as I couldn’t get the sort T used. But only one basket out of seven has lost the plants. One calibrochoa and one surfinia petunia.

Annx yes as a temporary move we have put the lawn mower into the greenhouse so I can get it out without lifting it. My wound has not healed enough to allow me to lift although daughter says it is looking better this evening. She dressed it twice for me this week.
That sounds like the private ambulance they send to collect a body for the undertakers. What a shame when they have not lived there very long really.

Hope your OH can get something for his painful elbow.
And hope you enjoy Sunday lunch.
Mandy the baskets were outside and the first thing Indud was to tilt them all to drain them hopefully we might now have a couple of days to dry out.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 28 May 2021 19:46

Oh Ann thats sad if it was the undertakers ambulance .
I expect everyone was ringing the doctors as its a bank holiday weekend all trying to get an appointment because they'll be closed on monday , we always have to queue there's usually nine or ten in front of you some times more than that .
Oh it will be nice to have the sunday lunches again ,hope they don't keep OH waiting like last time and serve others before him .
It's annoying when your gardening and want to get on and some one stops for a chat ,although you do find out all the local gossip :-D

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 28 May 2021 19:29

Evening all,

Its been quite a nice day we sat outside and had a cuppa this afternoon /
I went between twelve and one to pick up sons shopping at Aldi ,i parked in bay one rang son and he then emailed to say i was ready to pick up the shopping ,out the young lady came with all the boxes and she said about the subs which son said were fine ,we started loading up the boot and then i noticed one box had nappies and baby milk ,no i said that's nor their shopping ,oh the lady said well i don't know what to do so she said well take whats there and bring back what s not yours , no i said they want what they have ordered not some ones else's shopping ,off she went gone for a wile out came another lady ,Brooks order she said ,she then said what happened was the picker doubled picked so she picked two orders at the same time !!
Then another car pulled up for her order and the nappies and milk were hers ,so they then had to go all through the shopping to find all her things in the mean time out came more boxes with some more of sons shopping .
She said take whats there and if there's any thing missing call customer services and they will sort it out .
Son messaged me and said all the shopping was there but he wasn't very happy to think he had taken up our time with them messing up the order ,and he had to pay five pounds to have it picked !!
So not a very good first order of a click and collect from Aldi

No results through for Lewis so son sent for a postal one as that's the one they used months ago when he had to be tested because of his cough ,test came today and i posted it just after lunch as it had to go in the main post box at the post office ,the last postal one took a couple of days so hopefully this one will be quicker and will probably be back before the drive in one they did last Monday .

AnnG were your baskets outside or in the green house ,it might have been all the rain that soaked them and nothing to do with her watering ,my poor baskets had water running out the bottom with all that rain we had.
That was good they managed to get your lawn cut ,is there anyone you know who could cut it each week for you .

Oh naughty Mona eating the eggs ,has OH managed to sort the mowers and get them going again ..

Vera hope you enjoyed the birthday tea with your friends and it wasn't to uncomfortable for your back sitting in the low chair ,did you have cake .

Dermot you have a good memory to remember all those class mates .

Annx Report 28 May 2021 19:05

Hope you enjoyed the birthday tea Vera and that the lady liked your present. Yes I think most of us are plagued with backache as we get older. We both had to stop our pruning and weeding this afternoon when our backs started giving us gyp! We were only out there about half an hour as well. OH decided to do the front garden while the neighbour is away as he seems to have a sixth sense when you are out there and suddenly appears for a chat which isn't always what you want when you are trying to get done quickly. Blow me, neighbours diagonally opposite screeched up on their bikes and were chatting to him for ages instead.

I'm glad you had a good journey home AnnG. I did wonder with it being the Bank Holiday. It sounds as if it was bad going the other way though so I'm glad we avoided the Bank Holiday. It's a shame about your basket, but they usually drain and get too dry if anything. It will soon look fine with the new plants you bought. Hopefully if your wound is ok now you will be able to mow the lawn with it having been cut.

It's good you have found the egg eater Mel. Naughty Mona will have something to moan about if she doesn't stop. Yes I have trouble shaking the filling down the duvet on my own.......we aren't tall enough are we! Well fancy another mower acting up as well now!

OH managed to make an appointment at the docs for next Wednesday after queuing on the phone for 22 minutes! It's not good enough is it! He's got a sore lump on his elbow that is getting bigger and he has some kind of infection at the back of his ears now so he has been given a scrip for antibiotic cream for that. We whizzed down the road for opening time to look at the beds, only to find they had vacated the premises!! (why don't they update their websites!) The other branches are in the city and we aren't going there, but there is a bed factory that sells direct to the public in a village about 8 miles away so we will try them in the morning at opening time. They also have the right drawers we want as I have checked. They have closed the old showroom and incorporated one within the factory......a sign of the times to save money I expect.

The local place that we had a few delivered Sunday lunches from in the lockdown before, then changed to click and collect have combined with their other two local pubs and are delivering again, only it is free now. We have ordered 2 Turkey lunches for this Sunday for 12.00pm so that will be a nice treat to have a day off cooking. :-D

When we were going out this morning there was a different type of silver ambulance at Jean's old bungalow where there was an emergency ambulance a few weeks ago. Two masked carers were walking to their car parked up the close and a man in a smart dark jacket and white shirt got out of the ambulance and then another. I thought perhaps it was to take the man to an appointment but OH thought as they were smart and not in uniform they looked like undertakers. I think he may be right which would be really sad. The man had a stroke just before they moved in less than 2 years ago and they had just about got lots of alterations done inside, including converting the garage to rooms. They were keen gardeners and it looked like they were going to extend at the side of the bungalow as they had started removing a brick arch above the gate. We know they have a son as they told us when they moved in that they had inherited his aged Boxer dog.

O Dermot you must have agood memory to name 19. As a birthday present for my aunt (86) I gave her a B & W picture of her mum (my nan) at 22years old. She was delighted and was going to frame it.

Anng you don't think the heavy rain we have had filled your baskets with water do you?
What have you got them lined with and have they got drainage hole? Glad you got home safe and sound and that you got othe grass cut. What did you buy at the garden center apart from compost?

Been in the garden and tied up the clematis in the tubs and repotted a penstemon and cut it back and took cuttings. Thats all I have managed this afternoon and its so hot here but with cloudy skys.

Dermot Report 28 May 2021 18:12

As an early birthday present, I received a B&W photo of our class at school dated 1963.

And I was able to name 19 of the 20 in my class at that time.

I bumped into two of them in London, c.1975.

Great memories. :-D
