Afternoon All,

Slept well with just a sheet over me. A good night's sleep really helps! I hope Vera gets a better night tonight.

I see Mel is on her way for her appointment now. I hope she gets seen quickly and manages to park ok.

I did my pastel class this morning. More water as we were practising reflections. Then I did a nice somerset pork lunch with pork steaks as we needed to use some veg up. OH has washed up things like the steamer. He saw our neighbour on the front and took the opportunity to mention all their ivy forcing it's way through our wooden fence. He has a gardener coming in a few days to cut their hedge across the back and is going to ask him to take it down. They had their lawns taken up a few months ago and replaced with slate on the front and gravel at the back so we think they have started to struggle doing the garden. The chap is my age. They bought a caravan the year before last and have only been away in it a few times. He told OH they are going to Norfolk for a month in August and are paying to have the caravan towed there as it will be less hassle.

While it's so hot I am carrying on with my pictures. OH has a meeting tonight.

Vera yes I have to get to the post with great grandaughter's card for the weekend too.

I thought it was me with J royals as I didn't think they were special at all when I had them this year so they are just trading on the name now.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 15 Jun 2021 12:38

Tesco and Sainsbury online both have pre-packed Jersey Royals though I couldn't see loose ones. They don't taste like they used to anyway because the local seaweed is seldom used as fertiliser now. I had some on Sunday, cooked with mint, but the taste wasn't special at all. They could have been any small potato.

Sorry to hear that your friend John is still so poorly Frank. It must be a worry for Carolyn.

You got some nice plants at the Garden Centre AnnG. I always see plants I want to buy but I haven't got much spare space now. Those toasties sound good too.

Infuriating when you lose posts isn't it Mandy? I should think we've all done that at different times.

Right, I must get a couple of birthday cards written and in the post. They are wanted for Saturday but mail has been a bit unreliable around here lately so I'm getting them in the post in good time. Eldest granddaughter and step-grandson have their birthdays the same day.

Jersey royals seem to be mostly out of stock, I wonder if it was a bad harvest.

Take care driving later Mel and hope it is not too hot in the car. Take a bottle of water with you to drink while waiting in the hospital. Are you going on your own?

Morning Vera Anng and all,

Thanks for the wishes for me today Vera. Looks like its going to be another hot day here. I hope the shopping comes early.

Two subs today my Jersey Royal pots and my lamb chops are subbed for lamb rump steaks. The teddies can go back as I have some of those and did'nt like them much. They were watery.

Wrote this at 8am and forgot to post it!!

Good morning

Another sleepless night (sigh). I think it is going to be another warm day but perhaps not quite as hot as yesterday.

Mel, I hope your hospital appointment goes well. I’ll have my fingers crossed for you.

Enjoy your day everyone whatever you are doing.

I'm sure the bantams will grow to like him when they are hungry Mel. He will manage ok till you can do it again if needs be. Best wishes for tomorrow and I hope they find that you won't need to go in hospital. xx <3

How annoying Mandy, it happens to us all but why is it always when you have written a long post!

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Jun 2021 21:16

O I see.

Oh has taken himself off to bed. He has moved all the potted hostas today to where they should be in front of his filter shed so they reflect in his pond. They stayed off of there last year and on the decking round my pond so I coudl'nt see my pond from the top decking. He painted two more of my old planters and has put them in those. Gave them a good feed too.

I prcked out more of my Dianthus this afternoon but could'nt get into much else. I also pricked out some of the poppies you sent me Anng. I had forgotten about them and they were tucked behind my other seeds. Never did sprinkle any up the border as I knew I would have to dig a lot of it this year.

Mandy its so annoying when you lose a long post but we all understand what thats like.

Coo you had a nice spend up Anng. I'd like to go to a garden centre and get some more plants but I really think I have enough to handle at present and I need to find out what wrong incase I have to go into hospital. If I do I don't know how oh is going to cope with the chickens and the bantams as they hate him. Chickens are not too bad with him.

Whats the row part of thehose?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 14 Jun 2021 18:01

Poor John Frank that sounds horrible and it must be worrying for Carolyne. I hope John is soon more comfortable.

At least you will get the hospitspal visit over Mel

I had a really nice time with Cynth, well except Jane had a morning of problems and I was almost an hour late going in for my appointment and Cynth was out in the heat, luckily she parked in the shade. Wound is still not healed she keeps mentioning antibiotics but says it is not infected. She has put iodine patch on again so maybe that will help. She mentioned maybe trying a cream to help with healing but quite honestly she was so flustered at being so late I didn’t feel her mind was on the job. She had the young girl with her but Jane did the dressing change. I can see in four weeks I will be heading north with two weeks worth of dressings,

I treated Cynth to lunch which was really good we both had toasties which for me would be enough between two, the toasted are crisp and not thick bread, I had bacon, mushrooms and Stilton and there was a good side salad and nice coleslaw. We sat eating and chatting for about an hour then went out and filled our trollies with plants, still loads to choose from. I bought antirhiniums, calendula African marigold, Gazania, a pot each of basil and parsley a fuschia, some pot feet and what I hope is a new connector for the row parts of the hose.

Poor John and Carolyn Frank. What have John's operations been for? It sounds like a horrid ordeal for him the poor chap. I hope he soon in less pain and can eat again. That was kind of you to take Caroyn to the carvery with you. Your books were a bargain weren't they! OH won't buy many books when they first come out now. They end up at bargain prices in charity shops or cut price in The Works!

That's good you will soon be seen Mel. You shouldn't have to wait long either as they take less people at a time with social distancing in the waiting rooms. Will OH go with you? A busy day tomorrow then!

O Frank poor John and Carolyn. What has he had 14 stitches in his jaw for?

That was nice of you to take Carolyn out with you yesterday for dinner.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Jun 2021 13:00

Had a phone call from the hospital and I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon. That was really quick. So I have the wipe down in the morning and the hospital in the afternoon.

Frank

Frank Report 14 Jun 2021 11:35

Good morning to you all,

Went to the Calvary yesterday, took Carolyn with us. John is still in hospital, and from what Carolyn said, he will be in for some time. He has 14 stitches in his bottom jaw, and is in a lot of pain. He can't eat, so is on a drip. Poor girl is on her own and only has Ros to rely on.

What a hot day it was yesterday, today is likely to be the same. I think thunder storms are forecast for Wed/Thurs. The garden certainly needs a good soaking.

I bought two books from Ebay that arrived this morning. They are hard backs and are almost like NEW. They cost £16.99 new, I only paid under a fiver for both, with free postage. Very impressed.

I'm off to sit on the patio to have a read. I will be wearing my straw hat, to keep the sun off my head.

I trust you are all well, xxxx

Annx Report 14 Jun 2021 10:37

Morning All,

Slept like a top last night and feel quite refreshed. Sorry you didn't though Vera......maybe tonight will be better.

Suffolk Punches are lovely aren't they and not such big feet to crush your toes with as the Shires and Clydesdales. I wouldn't think it wise to breed from any that have difficulty giving birth, although it may just be the fact this foal was so big as she had had a foal before. It is sad these working breeds that have served us so well in the past are declining. When we visited a heavy horse farm in Cornwall years ago I was surprised at how strong the foals are and nearly got knocked over! When we were at a show for heavy horses years ago I asked an old boy if their nature was so placid. 'Not all of em' was his knowing reply and he said they had one they just couldn't catch! Starting training when they are young is the key.

OH is working away writing notes up and I need to see if my little cue seedlings need water, then phone up about one of my ISAs. Easy lunch today, OH will sort himself with lasagne to hot up and I have a pizza with some salad before my course starts this afternoon.

AnnG, we don't want 'torrential' do we! My little plants will get dashed down. I'd better make sure my sweet peas are tied up securely!
