I haven't done any FH for several years now. got back a long way on maternal side and quite a way on Paternal side. Seems a bit of a waste of time as I am not sure any of the family are interested. One brick wall none of us can demolish is my Paternal Great Grandfather's birth quote as born in France on a couple of Censuses. and we also have his Father and Mother noted as 'gone to France ' when they left the workhouse. However Mother returned and remarried and died a few months after marriage and Isaac (Gt Grandfather joined the R Marines. But can you believe we can find no record of him joining. Except he lived in RM quarter and RM is quoted on his marriage cert.
Vera I look forward to the continuation. You can't compare pain to others' pains, your pain is 'painful' to you.

I eventually fell asleep some time after 4 am and was awake again at 7 so I am a bit heavy headed today. It's good that you slept well Mel - sleep is the best thing if you are in pain or unwell. How did you sleep last night Ann?
I'm not comparing my pain to anyone else's as mine really isn't that bad but since the bones in my foot healed out of line it does sometimes give me gyp and today is one of those times. I'm limping around like Billy-One-Leg. Maybe I should get the trusty "chariot" out again ;-)
I think OH got a bit more sleep last night and seems a bit better for the rest. He's still in pain but seems more cheerful in himself.
It's cooler here today and very overcast but I've done 3 loads of washing and it seems to be blowing nicely in the breeze. OH is hoping it will rain as, if it doesn't, we will have to get the hose out tonight. I've been keeping pots watered but the beds are bone dry and some of the plants look as though they are suffering now.
I know what you mean about some FH giving you a headache AnnG but it's exciting when you make a discovery that breaks down a brick wall. I remember when I discovered what had become of my great grandfather after 7 years of searching. I couldn't stop smiling all day :-)
Well, yesterday I had a small breakthrough with a great uncle of OH, though it seems to have produced more questions than answers. OH's grandfather had 5 siblings, 2 died young so OH didn't know them, he could remember 2 others but he had never even heard of the other one, his great uncle Ferdinand. Ferdy was born in 1888 in Southwark and was with parents and siblings in the 1891 and 1901 censuses but not in the 1911 one. After a hunt I found him as a lodger in a house in Sheffield. Why did he move there? After 1911 he seemed to completely disappear apart from a possible death in Gosport in 1968. At one point 3 or 4 years ago I asked for help on the Find Ancestors board but no-one was able to get any further than I had.
By chance yesterday I came across a tree on Ancestry that had our Ferdinand married to a Beatrice Portman but gave no source.
(OH has just called out that he has made us some lunch. I'm going to post this in case it disappears but will continue the story later)

Morning Vera Anng and all,
Blue sky with white clouds and the sun is trying to shine today so lets hope it stays that way and we have a nice day.
Slept well got up twice in the night for the loo but went back to sleep as soon as I was back in bed.
Nothing planned here for today so shall just see how the day goes and how much pain I will have later on. It dos'nt hurt when I first get up it comes on later.
Island lovely pics and that sunflower is great with its forever spiral eminating from the center. When young we had to draw a flower like that at achool. I remember it clearly mine was orange and looked like a dahlia.

good morning all. Hope your book was boring enough to make you drowsy vera. sometimes reading works, other times it gets your brain going. I slept quite well again last night from about eleven until 6.15 although I still got up once for the loo.
Thanks for the photos island some good ones there as I said in my email back. Not sure what is planned for today. Might be a bit of gardening as I won;t be able to do any tomorrow or Wednesday but I shall see what the day brings.

I thought I’d be the first to wish you Good Morning today. I’ve been in bed since soon after 10 pm but just can’t sleep. OH is in our bedroom downstairs and it’s the coolest room in the house but I am upstairs under the eaves and it’s very hot and sticky even with a fan going.
That’s quite a complicated family relationship you uncovered Ann. I had to read it through twice to get the hang of it. I made a little discovery of my own yesterday and will tell you about it tomorrow if I remember.
I hope the rest of you are fast asleep, especially those of you in pain. I’m going to read for a while now in the hope that it makes me drowsy.

Oh I do love a crumble.....yum yum!! :-D
What a strange tomato Mandy! It is amazing how some just grow into strange shapes. Yes it was the children size portions today and they were just the right size for us this time. I think some that serve just fill the boxes! I have never ordered takeaways before so don't know how it works with others, but it is fascinating how they tell you when the driver arrives to pick your food up and when he leaves the restaurant. There is even a little map online with a red dot for the driver moving along the road as he does to your house! This week it came by motor scooter.
I can just picture Max recuperating and snoring and young Lewis makes you chuckle with what he says doesn't he!! I wonder if his mum or dad have told him the rabbits might be just to look at. It's a good way to stop him wanting to get one to take home! lol. :-D It must be quite difficult to find craft type things for boys, but it sounds like he enjoyed himself. II love your idea of a 'dual' scarecrow and it will be fun to make and should catch the eye of the judges.
I have extra trouble with sleep now because of Lichen sclerosis which is painful most of the time, but especially when I lie down to sleep. Frustrating because by morning after getting to sleep, I wouldn't know anything was wrong till I start sitting again! At least with being retired I can sleep in some days. :-D So pain lying, sitting and walking and standing now......what a state, but still luckier than a lot. It's not being able to go out socially to places like the NEC with friends anymore (when we could!) that is a shame and not being able to walk around big gardens or go anywhere with more than an odd step or even be comfortable going for a drive in my car some days. You feel a bit left out of life. Must keep a smile going and make the best of what I can do though, as there's always someone much worse off.. Your OH's poor sister having nasty falls like that. It must be so painful. and I expect it will take a while to heal so she will be on crutches for a while after the operation. I hope they can get a good result for her tomorrow and some help for when she goes home..
The food drop was early today and was soon dealt with, 6 subs, not ideal but some were ok, but one item was missing so I asked for and got a refund for that. Lifting stuff inside hasn't helped OH's tennis elbow though and he had another migraine last night. Vera, your place will be like AirBn'B with your visitors coming and going next month! :-D A break by the sea sounds good as I find the fresh air is a real pick me up. Hopefully places won't all be booked up.
In the wee small hours I did a bit of FH too and solved a mystery and discovered something I didn't expect. One of my father's brothers married a woman (Alberta) who had been married before then widowed. She had 4 children and they added 2 of their own. I had assumed a child who appeared to be named after my grandmother and with my uncle's surname to be a blood 1st cousin of mine, but she isn't. She is a child of the former husband and she must have taken my uncle's surname after he married her mother when she was 2 years old. Then I found that a sibling sister wiith the same biological father had married my aunt's son, an aunt who was the sister of both her stepfather, my uncle, and my dad. Are you keeping up? I then looked at the parents of the lady (Alberta) whose second marriage was to my uncle and her mother's name seemed to ring a bell, but from my mother's side of the family! It turns out that Alberta's mother was my maternal gt grandmother's sister on my mother's side.

Sorry to hear about your sil Mandy. That must have been so painful for her. I hope she makes a good recovery. It sounds as though you had a nice day with Lewis.
You've been busy again today AnnG. You'll need another holiday at this rate.
You did have a sleepless night Ann and you must have needed that lie in. I now seem to be sleeping from about 11.30 or so till about 4.30 am, then staying awake till I get up at about 6.30. Still, that's more sleep than a week or two ago so I'm not complaining. Was your lunch nice today?
It's good to hear that Frank is OK. Now it would be nice to hear from Gill.
Poor you Mel, still in pain. As AnnG said constant pain does wear you down. I hope your tablets get a real hold of it soon. OH is also in a lot of pain and not sleeping much at night but he is dozing on and off all day. Everytime I look at him his eyes are closed again. I think he is a bit depressed as well; he is usually so active that he's finding not being able to do much upsetting. I am sure they will be able to sort him out eventually but it might be a few weeks or even months if he has to wait for any hospital appointments.
I am hoping he will be OK to go on holiday in September as a week by the sea will do us both good. We have a bit of a busy time before that as son rang yesterday to ask if his stepson and stepson's business partner could stay here on 3rd and 4th September. They are just getting their business up and running and are doing some sort of trade show or exhibition in Suffolk. Of course we are happy to have them but I couldn't believe it when half an hour later OH's youngest sister rang to ask if they could come on 5th September and stay overnight.
I've done a bit more gardening today and given the downstairs cloakroom a thorough clean and we've had a full roast dinner. I've also done a bit of family history research which I haven't done for a long while.
We've had no rain today but could do with some overnight as the garden is dry as a bone. It's still very warm. It looks breezy out and I have got a window open but the room doesn't seem to be cooling down much. I think it's going to be another sticky night.
Right, I had better go and do a bit of pot watering which is a job OH often does but he can barely lift a watering can at the moment. I hope you all have a good night tonight and wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed tomorrow :-)

Anng we watched madterchef ,Sue Pollard did quite well i was surprised as she said she doesn't cook she always seems so scatty.
Mel Lewis likes to colour in his colouring book and loves cutting bits out and glueing them on card ,I bought him some craft bits from the works which kept him busy ,but its easier when the girls come there seems more they can do .
We are going to make a scarecrow ,the church has a craft and art fayre on the 4th of Sept and have a scarecrow competition so we are entering one in the family group. I had an idea to do a double one ,lady one side , man on the other ,probably making it hard for ourselves but we'll give it a go. Need Colin to make a cross of wood ,but I think we need to do the body bit first and the put the wood through the sleeves and then add the straw.

Mandy your poor SIL how dreadful to have a bone sticking through your skin she must be in such pain. I do hpe the op has gone off ok and she will not be in so much discomfort now.
Mandy does Lewis like to make things with you when he comes?
Stopped raining here for a bit and the suns been out. At least we have some blue sky now with big white clouds. Hope I hav'nt passed it over to any of you lot.
Ann that was'nt a nice night you had last night perhaps tonight will be better. Were you worrying about anything or just could'nt turn off your thoughts?
WE've had lunch and I am now in pain again but don't like to take more painkillers till my lunch has gone down as they seem to work better if I hav'nt just eaten.
I have been looking at driftwood boats and have a fancy to make a couple of those. I have an old pillowcase which is blue and white striped on side and the same on the other side intermingled with a plain blue a bit darker so that should make nice sails. I also have plenty of driftwood sticks in the shed. Now all I have to do is get myself into gear and start.

It is very windy here but also quite sunny. I went back out in the garden for half an hour and cut down the loganberry which seems to grow a mile every time I turn my back. Also a few of the buddleia branches had blown right down so cut them off too. did the load of washing and drying then some flowers arrived from daughter, belated birthday which was a nice surprise. did a bit of admin on the computer then watches an episode of corrie while eating lunch. so far caught up with Emmerdale and East Enders and the Friday edition of Masterchef Just got a few episodes of Corrie then I am up to date. I didn't see any soaps while away but usually watch all those three when here at home.
Sounds as if Lewis enjoyed his day with you Mandy.
Hope lunch was nice Ann I have lamb shank tonight.
Mel, hope the pain killers will chase the pain away.

Afternoon all,
Nice and sunny here so you can keep your rain Mel :-D we have had a few black clouds but they soon whizz over in the wind .
Anng save a few jobs for another day you'll wear yourself out and need another holiday :-D
Mel sounds as as if your in quite a bit of pain hope these tablets can ease it and you soon get rid of it .
Ann is it the smaller portions not that you've ordered :-D it did look nice and tasty though and if it does you two days then it can't be bad .
We had a nice day with Lewis yesterday, he's such a dear little boy and makes us laugh at times with the things he says. Yesterday we drove past Jolleys the pet store he said " i love looking at the rabbits in there but I'm not sure if they are for sale or just for decoration " :-D We put the bouncy castle up for him in the afternoon and he had a fine old time on that I bet he slept well last night.
We heard from Colins brother on Friday to say their sister had fallen and had been taken to hospital ,apparently she fell down and luckily her daughters were there at the time so helped her up she then fell again and she's badly dislocated her foot and has broken a bone which was poking through the skin. They should be operating on her today if she was stabilised enough .
Max is snoring away here at my feet he's worn out with Lewis racing him about.

Afternoon All.
Crikey you put me to shame with your plans for today AnnG. As Mel says, don't overdo it though.
I had a night where it wasn't worth going to bed and was still awake at 6.30am so I slept in till 11.30am. We are waiting for lunch now as I realised when I got up that I had only filled in the order but not paid!! It will be half an hour later than usual but that won't matter. OH was up much earlier and went out and did some weeding to top up the garden bin for collection on Tuesday.
It looks like it will be raining here soon as it's very overcast.
