Morning All,

Same weather here, but it's 8 degrees so a bit warmer. I slept well but there was a bit of blood this morning from the tooth I broke. :-S I must look up whether the Dentist's is open yet, doubtful.

AnnG the building has some history and memories for the family then. Your daughter had quite a bit of upheaval around the time her poor husband passed away. Not an easy time for her at all. I will look up Sawrey Knott as I like quieter places to visit when on holiday. I must admit to liking bigger kitchens with room for a table and chairs. I hope it all looks nice now it's done!!

Hubby has the trots again and isn't going to his 2 matches today. It's not surprising with all the peanuts etc he's been eating. I had today all planned for just me, but already he is asking about lunch! I told him I was busy just now! He's also shrunk a pair of his thick walking boot socks he wears for footie by just bunging them in with a hot wash!! I wonder if they will fit me now? :-)

Morning all,

Raining here this morning but it doesn't seem that cold out when I nipped down to the shed to get some leeks to make some soup .

Ann yes I do look at the château on FB ,I think i might start my book this afternoon and we'll soon start a jigsaw puzzle too ,we usually get one on the go after Christmas although hopefully the family can come on new year's day so we will need to use the table we do it on so the puzzle will probably be done after that .

Oh Vera your poor back its awful having to get through the day in pain when your in company your trying not to spoil the day for others when really all you want is to lay down to ease the pain , I hope you managed a better night's sleep last night ,a few days rest will hopefully get you better .

Mel an afternoon of crafting sounds just right ,what are you having a go at .
We've been watching those countryside christmas programmes they are good, we're now watching the second one ,there's four I think .
So a holiday within a holiday Anng :-) that will be nice .

For those that like Downton I see the film is on itv at 8.30 on new year's day.

Island perhaps you should have put a new keyboard on your list for santa :-) hope you've got it sorted now .

Better have a look at my soup see if it's done , I need to empty the washing machine too as I stripped the bed first thing .

It is a nice area Ann. If you google Sawrey Knott that is where we are renting an apartment. We are on the first floor in the tower. For a few years daughter and her late husband owned the ground floor apartment in the Tower (The writing room).. they then sold their house in Winchester and moved in to the apartment having a new bedroom and en suite built into the basement. They had lived there Less than two years when Jon died so she sold it and moved to Dalton In Furness as it would be too isolated in Sawrey. We will be in the apartment above what was hers. She and Joe still do all the accounts for the trust.

Full to bursting with dinner tonight.

Poor you Vera it must have been horrid to be in someone elses house and have that kind of back ache and not being able to show it and taking painkillers on the sligh. It does seem like the day in bed has really helped you though and there's nothing like your own bed is there?

Hope the keyboard holds out for you Island we can't have you not being able to post you know. :-D :-D

Its been raining here all afternoon and been dull and miserable and I have had to have the light on all afternoon in the kitchen diner.

At last I made my Christmas bird feeder this afternoon and they shall have it tomorrow. I just did'nt get time to do it before Christmas with one thing and another.

I'll send a pick of it up I just hope it all stays on the ring.

I had to look that up AnnG and it does look a pretty village. Is it a place you are all staying or where family live? It looks good for photos if the weather is fine.

Oh Vera what a nuisance you have had such a rough time with your poor back. It sounds like the rest today has at least helped make it bearable. Have you any of those deep heat patches, they are good. Hopefully you will have a better night tonight. Well you did make me chuckle at the thought of your 'Long Face Time' get together. I imagined the long faces! lol. It was good your grand daughter could join you though. She must be fed up stuck in her room, but it's what my teacher last summer did with her 19 year old and at least no-one else caught it. You had some lovely presents and I particularly like the sound of the garden ones!

I hope your keyboard isn't on the blink Island. I think I will be off to bed shortly as I am tired too.

Vera ooh that was an awful bad back by the sound of it, hope it clears up soon and that you sleep tonight. Yes Christmas is sad snd/or lonely for many people, it is obviously T I. missed most this year but it is also daughters late husband who died on this day I. 2014 and my Dad died on Christmas Day 2001

You had some lovely presents. Hope granddaughter is negative soon.

SuffolkVera Report 27 Dec 2021 18:25

I’m pleased you each had a good Christmas. We did too but I have spared a thought for those who are alone or those who simply don’t enjoy this time of year.

We had a lovely time at my daughter’s, just the 4 of us until the evening when a close friend of daughter joined us for a couple of hours. Grandson joined us on Boxing Day morning, again just for a couple of hours, and it was lovely to see him. He arrived looking very embarrassed - he had bought us all presents and left them behind at his flat!

Santa was very good to me. I had mentioned to OH that my dressing gown was past its best and so that’s what he got me. Not one, but two. They are a sort of velour and both very pale colours so may get grubby so when one’s in the wash I’ll have a spare. Other gifts for me were an M & S voucher, smellies, several pairs of the socks I like and, as joint gifts with OH we had a bee and insect house, a metal hedgehog garden ornament and some garden solar lights. We also had a voucher for afternoon tea for 4 in our own home.

We had a long FaceTime call with son and family after Christmas dinner. I don’t know how it was set up but granddaughter was able to join in from her isolation in her room. She wasn’t her usual bubbly self and looked very pale and heavy eyed. With luck she’ll get a negative test and be out of isolation in the next couple of days.

Yes, several of us have sad memories at Christmas time. My fil died in the early hours of Boxing Day in 2004 and today was the date last year when my brother went into hospital for the last time and I wasn’t able to see him. I sent a few thoughts your way AnnG as you were in the same position with your loved one.

I have had a problem over Christmas. I had a bad back for several days before Christmas and over Christmas it got worse and worse. I didn’t want to spoil things for everyone else so I just gritted my teeth, took painkillers when no-one was looking, and tried to join in everything. I even managed to go for a longish walk in the drizzle but by the time we got home at 7 last night I was in a terrible state what with the pain and hardly having slept for 3 nights. I was in bed by 8 and was in agony all night so OH insisted I stayed in bed today. I do feel a lot better now. What was excruciating is now just painful and I have slept on and off all day. I don’t know how well I’ll sleep tonight now but at least I can distract myself with a book which I couldn’t do last night.

OH is just cooking us a meal and wants to bring mine up on a tray as he did with a sandwich earlier today but I am insisting on sitting at the kitchen table to eat, even if I come back to bed straight after.

AnninGlos Report 27 Dec 2021 16:13

Ann shame you had a wet day. I think we have rain to come this next week, we hope for some dry weather as we will be at Far Sawrey near Hawkeshead this Wednesday for a week and hope to get some short walks in. Joe’s girls will join us for New Year.

It is a pretty sunset here at the moment but I can’t photograph it as it is an awkward angle. Sort of round the corner from the house over the sea.

Annx Report 27 Dec 2021 15:29

Afternoon All,

I slept well too but stayed in bed longer than OH who was getting ready for footie.

Mandy I would have loved your books too. Do you follow the Chateau on FB? Some of the things people make and restore are beautiful. I think Miriam is brilliant in Call The Midwife and think children must love her and her outrageousness! I bet the children loved showing you their presents and that you will need that rest later! :-D

What a pain when the PC freezes Island. I hope it has loosened up again now and that today is a tad better for you.

No chance of any washing here as it rained heavily as soon as OH set off for the match. Phil knows the routine doesn't he and when food is due! It's getting the same here with the Pigeons and Magpies. They sit on the fence and top of the arbour waiting in theafternoon. Two collared doves have appeared the past few days as well. It's a good job they can't get at the fat balls or the little birds wouldn't stand a chance. Hopefully Phil is lying low in your garden after hearing the shoot!

I bet it was nice to get a little fresh air with a walk round the harbour AnnG, even though the day had a sad memory too about your first SIL passing away. I think we all eventually have a sadness of some sort around Christmas. I had first MIL's funeral just a few days before Christmas many years ago now. I remember going for a work Christmas meal after the funeral as my first OH insisted I went. I even remember wearing a dark brown midi length mac to it.

Good afternoon Mel and Island. I slept well last night as well.

My fingers were like your laptop Island...... frozen. We just went for a walk round the harbour at Maryport. Sunny with some cloud but very sharp. And I have been sitting too long because my legs really ached after walking. We intended stopping in the little cafe for coffee but it was crowded so we didn’t go in and it was too cold to sit outside.so we came back home. Peaceful at home as Greg and Izzy have gone shopping in Carlisle. :-)

Just lost a post!!

Hi Island hope the pc behaves itself and you can get back on here later on. Have you been making anything lately? <3

We've had a little sunshine this morning and the washing is on the line bu we've also had rain and at the moment its very dark and gloomy so I don't think it will dry much.

Just going to do a sandwich and then its roast beef for tonight with all the trimmings.

Hope Frank had a good Christmas we need to hear from him and Gill too. we now know Island is about and posting so why can't we hear from the others.

We've had the Boxing Day shoot going on over the back forest and fields so I hope Phil is in the garden somewhere.

I must feed the birds too as oh put fat balls out this morning and we had a LTT attack so thye need pesnuts and seed.

Morning all,

We have a little blue sky out the front this morning and old Phil is up on the wall in his usual place surveying his grounds. when he sees me go to the garage he comes for his breakfast and the same in the evening he turns up just as I go to corn them. Last night he waas'nt about so I called to him and put his corn in the usual place and did the chickens . When I came back to the workshop to put the scoop away he had nearly finished his corn so he must have heard me.

We had a lie in this morning, well I did and oh came back to bed as he always gets up very early in the small hours.

Hope you all slept well. I went out like a light again lat night.

Good morning all a sunny morning with blue sky but looks cold. We hope to get out for a walk later down by the sea. Seven years ago today the daughter’s first husband died. Time goes so fast. Hope you all have a peaceful day, almost a return to normal.

Morning all

Hope you all enjoyed Christmas, we had a lively time it just went so quickly ,had some nice presents ,books I had the two Escape to the Chateau books and a Miriam Margoyl one ,a Cath Kidson apron and a Cath Kidson bag ,chocolates and lots of other bits and pieces .

I have the washer on and I've just emptied the dish washer which has done overtime the last two days .

Quite dull today and only 5 degrees, we're off to sons later to see all the presents that the children got and then home for a nice rest .

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 26 Dec 2021 16:25

I am confused now I am sure there was another post from Island that mentioned about people enjoying Christmas and that not everyone was all sparkly. Did I imagine that or not?

Annx

Annx Report 26 Dec 2021 15:55

I think you mentioned in an email that you were still having 'effects' from the new meds or dosage Island. Does your 'no' mean you are no better or that you aren't having a good Christmas or both?

Your presents up to now sound great Mel and I do like the sound of those wireless earphones, which are ideal for listening to your books as you say. :-) It's a nuisance your ear is aching again and I hope it has settled down again now. I'm not surprised your cake took a while to decorate with the intricate decorations you made. It's really lovely! Tell your OH I said he's a lucky man!!! lol. :-D :-D.

I don't think I mentioned that OH broke that tooth the hospital and dentist dispute who should take it out for him. Well, eating a mince pie after lunch today I lost half a tooth. It's the one the dentist said at my last checkup might be tricky to extract. I'm also a bit nervous now after the injection made me have shaky, tremors inside the last time I had a tooth out. It isn't aching and when I had a look it seems to be all filling under where it broke so unless I break the other half off I will leave it for now. It looks like there may be another lockdown in the next week or so and the dentist will only deal with emergencies then if so. Why do these things always happen at weekends or bank holidays? :-S

AnnG it sounds like you had some lovely gifts. I could do with some new birdfeeders too and a new pole. What kind of things did Inara have for Christmas? I am out of touch with what things young children have these days. I see Hobbycraft have started their sale with some good reductions, so I am going to order some art stuff like paint pads and acrylic paints as there are good reductions

OH is watching footie on the telly and going to a match tomorrow.

It's nice not having to cook today, except for poached eggs this morning. OH wants turkey and ham sandwiches later which he will get and there is plenty else to eat.

I've sent a pic of Ted in his jumper. :-D
