Mel Fairy Godmother Report 17 Jan 2026 09:09

Morning all on this cold and frosty morning,

Suns coming up behind the trees and theres a mist over the ground. Both cars are iced up but I think it more an air frost than a ground frost. Pc says 3 degrees and sunny so I hope it right.

Just the shop to do today and then hunker down in the warm.

We had a lot more energy then and were younger and could move around quicker.Iv'e not got much done today either. It absolutely fell out of the sky just after lunch and I was'nt going out in that.

It's funny you mentioned their cafes AnnG as I was thinking this morning that when we take the kettle back we could pop in the cafe, if it still had one, but when I looked online this morning it's gone. I think some stores probably still have one but am not sure. I miss popping in their cafe too. The waistcoat sounds handy for keeping warm without feeling hampered by sleeves.

I'm not sure what happens in our hospitals and will ask OH but he's never mentioned about any screens so I doubt they have them. They are refurbishing and extending the main city one soon. It seems daft to me to have the biggest A& E in the country there in the middle of a congested area of the city instead of at either of the other two hospitals on the outskirts. The ambulances get held up in all the city traffic which isn't good for emergencies and ohh the bumpy potholes in the area I remember when OH fetched me after my hysterectomy.

Well another day nearly gone without much done. However did we manage full time jobs at the same time.

Trip was quite good, shame they no longer have the cafes so no coffee stop, but I expected that. Did but a new sweater, a reduced heavt knitted waistcoat and a long sleeved Tee shirt, the sort that I wear under heavier sweaters.. It was not crowded at all and traffic was quite light on the roads. Yes we had a good chat while shopping.

Our surgery has the screens to check in the same as the hospital. and in the surgery waiting room there are the screens that tell you when you have been called.

Finally, a response from EWM to the online form I sent. It seems my parcel was lost by the courier. They cannot replace the order, so have refunded me.instead. I checked on their site and now they no longer have the jacket in the nice plum coulor I ordered that was in their sale or the fleece or the scarf in their sale for OH. So annoying as I bought me a scarf to go with the jacket since. If they'd answered their customer service phone no I could probably have reordered everything before they were sold out. :-S

Better try some 'Fairy liquid' on my windscreen now. I've used Cif to try and clear the smeariness but it's made it worse if anything and I can't see the kerb when the sun shines on it. I can't find the stick gadget with a pad on the end that would help either since we cleared the porch cupboards out for the doors to be fitted. I bet I will find it once I've struggled to reach it all.

The sun is just disappearing here and the sky to the west looks very grey.

Been up the top and put a new piece of rope on the gate from the village hall carpark which leads into my place. Its been broken for ages and they hav'nt seemed to fix it and the gate swings into my garden and I even hit it once in the old car. Did'nt want to do that in the new one.

Getting hungrynow so I think its time for lunch.

Enjoy your shopping trip to Sainsburys Anng.

Afternoon All,

Weak sunshine but a heady 7 degrees here. A night of getting up here, probably due to drinking a lot of water as I realised I hadn't drunk enough too late.

I hope today's journey to the hospital is uneventful Vera after the nightmare last time. It's good your next appointment will be in the morning so no bus needed. OH has to go back for a more thorough inspection of his eyes with the strong eyedrops. He had noticed a new shadow, which they say is a floater, but want to be sure it isn't pulling at the retina. It's the eye that has had all the laser treatment.

I hope you manage to go with your friend to Sainsbury's AnnG as the weather has kept us in a lot lately and a change of scene and chat will be good.

Mel it sounds as if at your surgery you still book in at a reception desk. For a few years we have had a screen inside the outer door where you book yourself in. Do you have screens in the waiting rooms that show your name and which number room to go to when they are ready to see you? It's chaos when the screens don't work though. Our forecast is dry tomorrow which will please OH for footie then two rainy days.

OH is going for his walk, so I will pop out. Then he is off to a council meeting.

Morning Mandy and all,

Nice bright morning so far and both the cars have fern patterns on them. I had a rotten night slept for a couple of hours then a visit to the loo. followed by lying awake till the next time I needed the loo and then the next time. Must have dropped off for an hour or so just as it was getting light.

Its 5 degrees and pc says temps to drop by next Wednesday.

Wonder if BIL will come today?

Morning all,

Don't think there was a frost this morning ,the suns trying to peep through the cloud but the clouds are looking a bit grey so hope we don't get any rain .

Vera I hope your bus journey is better than last time and that your hospital appointment goes OK.

Thanks everyone for Lewis's birthday wishes ,no Vera I don't make the birthday cakes for them like I use to , they usually go and pick a cake from the supermarket now.

Better get in the shower next bit late doing that this morning as we've sat chatting.

It's rained pretty much all day and it has been so dark and gloomy. January 15th was my Dad's birthday so he's been in my thoughts a bit today, not in any morbid way but just remembering the little things like how he was always singing. He'd get up singing and he'd go to bed singing. I do miss him.

I hope OH's eye test went OK Annx and he hasn't got to spend a fortune on new glasses.

It's good that you managed to see the nurse Mel. She might not have seemed to do much but it was probably reassuring for you.

We went to the Health Centre this afternoon for OH's X-Ray and got there a few minutes early. He was seen immediately and was out again before his allotted appointment time. The radiologist said to OH that the urologist has requested a CT scan for him. This was the first OH had heard of it and the radiologist said that if we hadn't been given an appointment within 2 weeks to contact them. It looks as though it will be done at the Health Centre which is good as we have had to go to the hospital for scans in the past. It was pouring so hard when we came out that we decided to give Tesco a miss. I only wanted some fresh salad. I'm thinking of trying to get to Waitrose first thing in the morning as we like their fish and I'm nearly out of fish in the freezer. It's 20% off on Fridays and I can get some salad at the same time. I've put in an order with Tesco for delivery on Monday.

It could be a bit of a rush tomorrow as we have to get to the hospital. We'll go by bus again as I never know how long I am going to be there and it could well be dark before we get home. We'll need to get back from Waitrose, grab a quick snack and be out again about 12.15 to get the bus which takes just over an hour and should get me there with about 40 minutes to spare. Keep your fingers crossed that this time we get a driver who knows where he is going. My next eye appointment is already booked for March and it is in the morning so OH will be able to drive without worrying about it being dark when he has to drive home.

I did intend to have a read of the local paper online but I think I've looked at the computer screen quite enough for one day so I think I'll close down now. Have a good night everyone.

Afternoon All,

<3 :-) Happy Birthday to Lewis. Did he say what he would like for his birthday Mandy? Not a ride on a Bin Lorry I hope. I still chuckle about the cake. After I saw the weather forecast for today I did the same and nipped out this morning to do a couple of errands.

They say it takes 30 days to change a habit Mel so keep resisting the ciggies, it should get easier. It's good you managed to be seen at your surgery instead of the hospital. We have to wear a mask at ours if you have a cough or cold and they meet you and take you into a seperate room so you don't mix with people in the waiting room. I think it's helpful that the nurse reminds people how much worse they may have been without the flu jab. So many still think the jab stops you getting flu and even more don't realise it can stop you being so ill if you do still get it. Vera is right saying not to expect miracles. When dad had the Hong Kong/Mao flu in 1970 he became so weak mum had to feed him with a spoon. Me and a chap who worked for him kept his business running and he was so ill he never even fretted about it. I was married by then and would call with any post he needed to see, but mum wouldn't let me in the house worried I might catch it. He stopped his 20-40 a day smoking habit straightaway and never touched one again, even though mum still smoked a few. I have one of those oximeters you put on your finger at home.

I hope your OH's xray results will be good Vera and that his cough starts to improve. It's handy if you can do a bit of shopping too.

It's still raining here too AnnG and OH just managed to fit a walk in before it started. He noticed they are digging where the new warehouses will be. Now it doesn't know when to stop raining. Our window cleaner comes when it is raining too.

Openreach were down the close a few doors from us talking to a neighbour this morning when I went out so I expect they will soon be digging as they seem to be moving down the close. I must say I won't be happy losing the landline phone as I prefer it to the mobile.

We have had a label of instructions of what is to go in the extra bins for kitchen waste soon to be delivered to us etc. It's annoying that there will be too many bins to fit out of sight at the side at the front of the bungalow and it looks as if the rubbish bin will be bigger to accomodate the kitchen waste bin if people want and wouldn't fit down the side anyway. I think it would be easier if they wrote what we can put in each bin as the list of what can't go in will confuse a lot of old people. They seem to think everyone drives and has a car to pop to the tip with this and that as well.

Who would have thought after paying for our bins to be emptied and carried to and from the back of our houses years ago, that now we still pay for the service, but then do the job of sorting it ourselves free of charge, so the council can then get the additional payment for what is recycled.

O I forgot to wish Lewis A Very Happy BIrthday <3 <3 Hope you have a great day with lots of nice things and chocolate.........

Been to the nurse. They are having more security put in down the surgery and there was a big van parked right outside the entrance and people queing at the window but the man I spoke to outside the nurses place said he was for the nurse so I waited with him when I should have gone to the window and said I was here. Anyway I went up there in the end and told them I was here and been waiting. I went in after a while and all she did was listen to my chest and put the reader thing on my finger to measure my oxygen levels and told me it takes a while to recover from flu and did I have the flu jab and I said yes and she said just think what it would have been like if you had'nt had the jab!!! Did'nt think that really helped but I did tell her I hav'nt been smoking.

Hope hubby gets on ok with his x-ray this afternoon Vera, I shall be thinking of him. <3

Iv'e had a slice of toast and honey, the good stuff, and now I want a nice hot drink.

Good morning all

Dark and wet here with a yellow warning of flooding. Yesterday it seemed as though spring was on the way, today spring has turned its back on us .

Happy Birthday Lewis. I can't believe he is 11 already. Do you still make them all birthday cakes Mandy?

I hope the nurse is able to help you with your cough Mel. OH has his X-Ray this afternoon. I'll go with him. Thankfully it's at the Health Centre which is less than 2 miles away and not too far from Tesco so, depending on the weather, I might pop in for a couple of bits of shopping.

Good morning all very dark and damp here, not currently raining but it is forecast. Fortunately I don't need to go out. I should reall take 8 books back to Irene, but that can wait until a dry day. I read 7 books while at daughter's.

I have a load of washing in. Not sure where it has all come from this week. I seem to have done three weeks wash in one week.

Morning all,

Very cloudy but dry so far ,we should have rain later and it should get heavy so we're off to get the shopping a bit earlier so we don't get to wet.

Lewis is 11 today ,where have those years gone ,it only seems five minutes ago when I asked him what birthday cake he would like me to make and he said a Bin Lorry lol
Can't remember what I made now but it wasn't the bin lorry .

It seemed to turn cold here this afternoon as well.
Well done Mel if you can find something that you enjoy doing to put I place of when you would have a smoke that would help. And would probably help your breathing as well.
