Morning Anng,morning all,
Breezy and 10 degrees today here too so milder than yesterday when it was only 2 degrees.
Mel thats good you've had your first egg from the new girls ,one of many we hope .
Vera how nice that it was your letter that your friends daughter picked out to read at the service i can understand why though as you always write well on here .
Yes no Ann yesterday hope they are OK perhaps they lost their power supply as many are still without power after the storm ,it should get up again today so any weakened trees from Friday could come down .
We're off to sons later for coffee it will save them turning out .

Good morning. grey here says 10 degrees already so that has gone up overnight. Dry so far although a few spots on the windows so probably rain maybe later. Nothing today except the tesco delivery.
Nothing from Annx yesterday so hope they are both OK.

Are they not able to insure the frozen food Mel? That would be a big loss.
Vera I am pleased that the memorial service went well and I am not surprised that your letter was chosen, whenever you write for us the pieces are entertaining and well worth reading. Good you found your earrings to wear.
I cooked a sausage casserole in the slow cooker. I have never cooked any sausage casserole before but daughter suggested it as I wa bored thinking if meals. It was not meant for the slow cooker so it was a bit hit and miss but I really enjoyed it, it was very tasty. It was a Hairy biker recipe on line. I will do it again. Miraculously I had almost all the ingredients required..

This is going to be a staggered post.
WEnt down the shop this morning and the whole village leccy was out. Ann in the shop said they had only a trickle and one till worked but not the other. They had one strip light on in there and Ann said it takes 20 mins to boil the kettle. That must have been why the internet kept going out last night and the leccy during the day. She said they are not doing it till Monday. The pub will be cross!! One of the builders is going to lend the hsop a generater. She's worried about all the frozen food and chiller cabinets.

Quiet on here today ,still cold and we've had rain all afternoon. I made a nice stew as that's nice and warming, there's enough for tomorrow too .
Hope the funeral service went OK Vera and the villages electricity supply was restored so you could get a hot drink .
Mel hope your electric has been better today and not tripping out for you.
We haven't done much today, we sat this afternoon and watched an old Midsummer Murder I had recorded, one with John Nettles in I like the old ones better than some of the new ones when that finished we watched a bit of the Olympics .

You’ve had some excitement round your way then Mandy. As AnnG says I hope that lad gets more than a wag of the finger and a “naughty boy, don’t do it again” telling off but I also hope he gets some proper retraining/rehabilitation. Something must make these youngsters behave the way they do but I don’t know what the answer is. It’s very hard on that poor girl losing her study papers like that. I’m not surprised she is upset. On a lighter note did you get the wool? I wondered if you would make him a realistic grey or whether you would go for something like pink.
I woke at about 1 am last night and cursed because I had left the light on in the en-suite. The door was fractionally ajar and I could see the light round the edge of the door and shining across the bedroom carpet. When I went to turn the light off it wasn’t on but there was one of the brightest moons I had ever seen shining directly in the room. I stood looking out for a while as it was one of those cold, clear nights with lots of stars twinkling away. The trouble was I was so thoroughly awake by then that I couldn’t settle back to sleep.
It has been very cold and wet here today. At the moment the weather app is telling me it’s 6 degrees but feels like 2. We took friends M & V to our mutual friend’s funeral. V has a serious heart problem and has a blue badge. We were very glad of it today as it meant we could park reasonably close to the church and the venue for the wake so we didn’t get too soaked. We knew that our friend had asked to be cremated but the details we had been given were a bit vague and the service was in a local church. It turned out the cremation had been a couple of days ago and the service was more a memorial and celebration of life. It was an excellent service and one of his daughter’s gave a sort of eulogy to her father during which she read out a chunk of one of the many letters the family had received. I was very touched that the family had chosen the letter I had written and it was hard to hold back the tears.
I had better go and start reheating the rest of yesterday’s stew and then I think it might be an early night tonight.

Let's hope he gets more than a slap on the wrist Mandy. Ah you are doing it elephant colour. I was thinking of a coloured one.
We have had a lot of rain and that wind is icy cold it is supposed to be 8 degrees but I am sure it is lower than that in the wind.

I need some chunky grey wool Anng ,I went into QD in town but they only had aran which I suppose I could use it would just come out a bit smaller ,or I could even use double knit that would make it even smaller ,he is a big elephant . I might try doing a leg in some double knit and see what size it comes out .
The wind is bitter today ,when I walked to town there was loads of twiggy bits off the trees in the churchyard and roof tiles off some flats laid smashed on the pavement I crossed over when I saw them .
I meant to say Friday night there was a police chase in town some young lad had broken in a house took the car keys and some other bits and went hairing round the town with the police chasing him ,we saw flashing lights out the front seems that he came up our road and into the old people's place which is a dead end and that's where he left the car ,we saw the car go down the road later on the back of a low loader . But before that he drove through the churchyard that backs onto us with the police following how they squeezed through the bottom of the churchyard and passed by a house that had scaffolding up you'll never know ,I could see all the tyre marks as I went to town any way they caught the lad but whether the car was damaged I don't know it belonged to young lady and had lots of her study papers on the seat which he threw out the car window poor girl they said she was so upset.

good morning all. dry out there and seems a lot calmer says temp is 2 degrees so also a lot cooler.
We lived in Clifton near (9miles from) Bedford from 1981 to 1992 so were a bit closer to your part of the country Vera. We did drive out to and around Suffolk a couple of times.

Yes, ladies, of course I appreciate OH and am thankful I have him. I just wish he would occasionally stop and think for a minute. When I get a bit cross it’s usually anxiety. When I saw him he was cutting back a plant, kneeling on the ground under the branches of a tree hanging over from next door. I could hear the branches creaking in the wind and could visualise one landing on his head at any minute. He did tell me later that he had been hit on the arm by a bucket that he had put down and the wind picked up and threw at him.
I had forgotten that you lived in Suffolk in the 80s Mel. We moved there in 1986 and my Dad came to stay for a few days in April 1987. He was taken ill while with me and was sent into hospital in Bury SE and was still there at the time of the storm. After about 4 days we managed to get in to see him and on the way back we saw lights on at The Manger pub. You might know it. Knowing they did meals and having lived on cold food for a few days we were delighted to see they had power and went in. You can imagine our disappointment when they said they didn’t cook on Mondays. When we explained the lovely landlady went and cooked us gammon steaks. It tasted wonderful and I’ve never forgotten her kindness.
My memory, which used to be really good, is letting me down a bit lately. I have found my earrings because I suddenly remembered what I had done with them. Although I haven’t worn them for a long while I took them and another pair to the jeweller recently to show him a couple of styles I liked. They were still in a little polybag in the one handbag I hadn’t looked in - the one I have been using. I’m pleased I remembered where they were but cross that I didn’t remember to put them away in the right place when we got back from the jeweller.
The wind seems to have dropped quite a bit now so hopefully it will be a quiet night. Sleep well everyone.

I'm pleased you are all safeeven though some of your men have been outside..
The wind dropped a bit this afternoon so I went round and corned the chickens and bantam and I had to undo the doors onthe chicken house to put food and a drop of water in there for the morning just incase its still very windy.
The leccy went iut this afternoon and I got up to trow the switch in the cupboard but before I coudl get there it came back on so it was'nt up. This happened four times and then it happened again but did'nt come back on and it had knocked the switch out in the cupboard.
I did a little craft this afternoon but not much but it was a big bit I finished.
Vera I was in Suffolk in 1987 when the big wind hit. WE were stuck in our village and had no power for over a week. We had a woodburner then with a big pot you could put over the fire so we had tea and toast done on the WB and in the evenings I cooked dinner in the pot and jacket pots in the fire. I also had smash in the cupboard and we had lots of things in the freezer we could make dinners of. We had to be quick inthe freezer getting things out but it was all ok. My son had fixed up a car light bulb to a battery and we had a battery radio which we listerned to. Plenty of dog food and cat food in as we had the pet shop then. I had a young girl who lived just ioutside the shop and she came in and did the animals for me till we could get out of the village.
Waving to Island hope your ok~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ <3

Ah, you are right Mandy. I think that was how we saw that the box was now poking out of the soil. Two Pine trees are down a couple of miles away and 2 othert rees at a village where a friend lives. I think it said one had crushed a car. I've told OH he'll have to go out and hold our Pine tree up as it was swaying like mad earlier. I've said for a while we should maybe take it down now as it is much higher than the bungalow and the builder cut down a lot of the other trees like it at the bottom where the new houses are. They used to break the wind so to speak but now there is only our tree and one other at the bungalow diagonally opposite. They both had something wrong with them 3 years ago and shed a lot of needles so I hope it didn't weaken them.
What a shame you can't find the earrings Vera, just when you have an occasion they would be perfect for. I am hoping to find a white gold chain I have somewhere before I go to Luton Hoo, as I want it for a nice pendant. It's good you managed to contact M&V. I didcovered my OH went out earlier to screw our panel and the front sidegate back after moving them for the fence to be done. I thought it could have waited, but no, he did it while it was on his mind, which is a good point, but he could have ended up with roof tiles on his head.
The wind has died right down here now, so I hope it has moved on.
