AnninGlos Report 17 Jun 2022 07:27

Good morning all, another hot one forecast so not much activity in the garden. I have found somebody to do my front drive etc, all being well it will be done 6 July.

Ann, no you wouldn't get me at Glastonbury either but I do like to see (on TV) all the young people flocking there, all bubbly and excited.

No sign of the hog, I have not disturbed the pile of grass and leaves but will have to check soon. I am hoping it has gone now it is warmer.
Vera, as Ann says it does seem that you have thoroughly looked at triggers etc so just have to hope they are not too frequent. I am sure the hot weather doesn't help. Stay cool as you can and take it easy.

Mandy the shorts and PJ shorts were a lovely idea for Lacy's present. I have some shorts pyjamas, used to always wear them in Lanzarote and Tenerife. For one thing they were light to pack.

How high is the scaffold Mel? I hope it will be safe for him. Typical though that the instructions were there all the time. Is this to help him cut the box hedge? When we hired one at my chalet bungalow, it wobbled when we got up so we lashed it to the drainpipes.

Vera it sounds like you have explored all avenues with your migraines. I used to be nauseous with mine and remember travelling home from school on the bus. Travelling past the biscuit factory on a hot day with a migraine was an ordeal with custard cream smell everywhere!! Oh and the thumping head when you bent down. Some good news with some results for your OH which is nice to have. Just the MRI scan ones now, so I hope he gets those soon.

Some cool shorts and PJ's with shorts will be great for Lacey's birthday Mandy. I love some of the clothes for children and sometimes wish they did adult versions! I thought the same about Gill and her sub running out.

Wild horses wouldn't get me to Glastonbury AnnG. I just think of crowds, unsavoury toilets with queues, drugs, a possible quagmire of mud and all those tents left behind for someone else to have to clear away. It must be my age. lol. I meant to ask if you have seen any more signs of the Hog in your compost?

Well OH is still at his 2nd meeting after his seminar this morning so I'm going to have an early night. He's in the city and wasn't keen on leaving his new car in the street.

Just seem
N photos and video of beautiful Peregrine Falcons bear Taunton. They have their proper feathers now and are gorgeous.

Sooo anyone all packed for Glastonbury? Just seeing film of past years. Hope they have a good year and no problems fir the villagers. So many young people and most just want to have a good time. Just the odd few as usual who cause grounld with drugs etc.

Thank you all for your kind words. I am feeling quite a bit better though I know from experience that I shall feel as though I’ve gone 10 rounds with Tyson Fury for a few days yet. I can cope with that.

AnnG, there are a number of different triggers. There’s a few things that I avoid like the plague and others which may be fine one day and not the next. I’ve been on medication for many, many years and take pills every day to try to prevent an attack. I’ve had brain scans and many a consultation with neurologists, but there’s not a lot they can really do. There does seem to be a genetic element. My Dad’s two sisters had it, I have it and my brother had it. My son was diagnosed with it at the age of 5. Thankfully none of my grandchildren have shown signs of it yet. Just remembered that I also had several sessions of acupuncture some years ago.

Having said all that, I am in fact a million times better than I used to be. I am nauseous and can’t eat but am not often sick these days which means I can swallow pills and keep them down. The attacks don’t last as long as they used to and although the pain is excruciating I am usually reasonably “with it” whereas I used to often be tipped over the edge into La-La land.

Anyway that is more than enough about my woes. You all have your problems too and I feel very lucky compared to some people.

Still on medical matters but something good for a change - OH had the results of his last blood tests and the abnormalities that were evident earlier have cleared and he doesn’t need more medication so we are just waiting for the MRI scan results now.

Bless him, he has really helped me this week while I have not been so good. He gave the conservatory a real spring clean on Tuesday as he knew I’d been wanting to do it for a while and today he has gone round outside washing window ledges and doors. The window cleaners turned up a short while ago as well so the outside is gleaming now.

Mel, I shouldn’t laugh about your OH and the instructions but it is just the sort of thing mine would do. I should think it would take OH’s weight but I would check the instructions. It might say the maximum weight it will take.

Mandy, I think I forgot to say how much I liked your bench cushions. They look so professional and very smart. I bet something like that would be quite expensive to buy.

You are all so skilled that perhaps you should open an arts and crafts shop together. Mel can make models, Mandy knit or sew pieces, AnnG can make cards and perhaps take lovely photos for Ann to copy as paintings. I’m no good at the craft bit but I’m OK at administration so I’ll deal with the paperwork and drum up custom for you. How’s that for an idea?

Time to make a cuppa now I think. Stay cool, have a good evening and sleep well tonight.

it is 27 degrees here, very hot. I have spent some time down on the lower patio under the umbrella reading out of tthe sun it was not too hot. I did manage to sweep off the patio and get rid of the weeds there. I have tracked down someone who might be able to do the drive, he said it will cost about £160 but I realise he has not seen it yet. I am happy to pay if he does a good job

Oh's scaffold tower arrived this morning and he unpacked it and got all the bits out but had no instructions so looked on the website and there were none there either. He went out after lunch to takle it again. I went out to see how he was getting on and helped a bit and he asked me to put some stoppers in the ends of the platform bit. I did one lot and turned it ove to do the other two and there on the back of the flap you go through to get to the top were in the instructions!!!!!!!!!!!! He's been complaining about there being no instructions all morning since it arrived and he put the bit over leaning against the mower and still did'nt see them.

I just hope its strong enough to hold his weight and its only 2 foot 6 wide.I have done a bit of craft work this morning making a little something to go in Brew Cottage. The second one, which I think is a better size has just baked so now I have to wait for it to cool down before getting it out. It took me most of the rest of the morning to make these two things.

Afternoon All,

Boy it's getting hot now isn't it. PC says 24 degrees now and it's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. Those blackout blinds seem to be helping on the front though as it stays much cooler if we keep them closed on hot days.

The Lumberjack boys were fantastic, tall and muscular (oh yes!) and very polite with no shouting around. They had all the right equipment and started at 9.30am and had both trees down, shredded, logs stacked on their truck, trunks ground down below the soil surface and all the mess cleared up by midday. The chap climbing up the trees was no youngster, but you must be strong to balance and hold on while sawing off branches. I had never realised before that they wear a shoe harness with downward pointing spikes on the inner edge of the heels to grip the trunks as they climb. Our neighbour and us kept them supplied with drinks and they had a few 10 minute breaks. I'm glad they didn't have to do it in today's heat. I will see if any photos taken through the window have come out and send them.

I'm so sorry you are suffering these awful migraines Vera. I know how debilitating they can be as I used to get 'monthly' ones connected with hormone changes. Muggy weather would bring mine on too and long journeys. I hope ypu soon feel better, even though they do leave you washed out for a few days.

I'm glad you are still liking seeing the paintings. :-) Too be honest there's not much else I seem to do lately, but I think a lot pf people are the same with the effects of the pandemic. I ventured into the Co-op in the next village this morning (it's easier to park and less busy than the one in our village) and both the carpark and shop were virtually empty. I got a paper and also a box of chocs to give the other neighbour whose tree was cut down, as he had kindly made all the arrangements and negotiated a price for doing both trees for us both. They have been out sorting some surface roots from their tree this morning and will be straight much sooner than us. OH has had a webinar this morning and 2 meetings this afternoon and tonight.

Ooops better BBL as the course starts soon.

Afternoon all,

Oh Vera sorry to read you've had another bad head ,you've had a lot to organise and think about ready for this weekend which probably hasn't helped ,take it easy today .

Anng I had a look and it's salt and dishwashing liquid you add to the vinegar for the weeds ,probably why my weeds took longer to die off with not using the right mix for them .

Mel I said to Ann I thought she had got the roundness of the water tanks just right ,not an easy thing to do getting the roundness right .

I've got another bench seat cover to do ,I've done two more square cushions for the other bench ,it's good I had two pairs of the curtains ,they were old ones we use to have in our bedroom ,we have a window each end of our bedroom .
This morning I cleaned out an old dustbin that is used as an overflow tank from the two water butts ,it had lots of sludge in the bottom as I wash my pots and trays in it , we should get some showers over the weekend so it might get filled up again.
The other day we put a new stocking over the end of the pipe that goes into the water butt ,it catches all the rubbishy bits that comes of the shed roof with the rain ,you should have seen all the sludge and gunge in the old stocking ,it would all have gone in the water butt .
I remember dad putting a stocking on the pipe on his water butt .
We've come in for the afternoon as its really hot out there now ,so I'm going to stitch my next cover .

Anng take Alexa's plug out the back and then plug it in again and let her restart. It may clear it.

Been busy this morning hoovered right through and had a look at some miniatures online and fed the chickens etc and some other jobs so I am having a sit down at the mo. I forgot to come on here when I got up as I answered a couple of emails and forgot.

Oh dear Vera, that is awful for you, are they becoming more frequent now? Is there really nothing else that can be done for you. I am so sorry that you were so poorly and hope that you feel better today. I am sure there is no need for me to tell you not to overdoe it today. Can you pin down the trigger? <3 <3

Good morning AnnG and all

My app says it is going to be 25 degrees today and 32 tomorrow. I am all behind this week now as I have been out of action for 2 days with another really bad migraine so I could do without the high temperatures. I spent Tuesday in bed completely zonked out and yesterday wasn’t much better so I must get my act together today.

Have a good day everyone.

AnninGlos Report 16 Jun 2022 07:29

Good morning all, apparently according to the PC the temp is going to go up to 23 degrees, not sure what it is now as my alexa screen has been stuck on 12 degrees since I returned from holiday. No idea why.

Not sure what I will be doing today, might walk round to Tesco, I will see what else comes up.

First job is to water the pots. And I need to see about doing something about the weeds in the drive. Probably after doing that I won't feel like walking round to Tesco.

And I have a bite on the back of my upper arm, didn't have that before I went to bed!!

The mention of the alarm clock Mel was in response to the fact that you went back to sleep and didn't want to sleep until gone ten and although you have asked OH to wake you he doesn't. So you were complaining about being left to sleep in. I thought that wouldn't happen if you had the alarm set for the latest time you wanted to wake up.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 15 Jun 2022 22:20

I have been busy today but inside as it was too hot to go up the garden and my arm is still playing up.

Anng I don't need an alarm clock I just get up when I wake. Don't have to go anywhere so its up to me when I get up.

Oh bought me a very light flame gun that runs off cans of gas and that would be good for your weedy front. It works best on a windless day.

Love the cushions and seat cover for the bench Mandy as I said in my email. They look fresh and clean and comfy but don't forget to take them in at night incase it rains of they get damp from the dew.

Ann the latest painting is great and I can see why you picked that one. Lots to get right and I think (and oh thinks ) you did it really well to get the roundness on all those towers. He's always interested to see your paintings.

Mandy, I saw something about white vinegar but I think it might have had
D something else with it.

MillymollyAmanda Report 15 Jun 2022 19:11

Evening all,

Phew it's been a hot one ,got a few jobs done and went and did a little shopping at Tesco it will soon be Laceys birthday so I got her some shorts and some PJ'S that were tops and shorts .

Hope the trees came down OK Ann and they cleared up after ,it will be strange for you to look out and they all gone

Ann I tried spraying white vinegar on the weeds as I read somewhere it kills the weeds ,well it did eventually but took quite a few days before they started wilting and dying , not keen on using weed killer with Max about in the garden so Colin burnt them away with his paint stripper burner thing .
No haven't heard anything from Frank or Gill for a long time now I suppose they haven't renewed their sub with Genes so can't post.

I think boiling water would mean at least 20 kettles full Mel.

whydon't you have an alarm set for 9am then if you oversleep that would wake you up.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 15 Jun 2022 11:05

Morning all,

slept in this morning for some unknown reason as I was'nt late to bed last night. I got up for the loo when I was just light and then I went straight off again. Did'nt wake till 10. 28am. I have asked oh to wake me but he dos'nt.

He is out cutting the hedge at the mo.

Pc says high uv and 20 degrees so its going to be a scorcher today.

Hope all goes well with the tree comng down Ann and nothing gets damaged in the process. You should take a before and after pic.

Have you tried boiling water on your weeds in the bricks Anng? It works for a while if they are not too established or docks and nettles.

Well I better get myself into gear and strip the bed and get that washed I think.

AnninGlos Report 15 Jun 2022 11:01

Strangely the main glasses were not a lot more expensive than my last pair 18 months ago I did choose the more expensive of the two pairs I liked because they are made of titanium and not steel so are strong and lighter. I don't mind the cost as they are going to be part of me for about 18 months.

I have dusted downstairs and watered the pots and hopefully fixed the hose. I also have done a load of washing and half downloaded my holiday photos. so now I am going to have a cup of coffee.

Anyone heard from gill or Frank? gill's silence is strange.
