Much cooler than yesterday when it got to 33 degrees but still quite warm. It stayed dry till about midday and has been showers on and off since then, some of them quite heavy.

The coffee morning went well. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and nearly everyone brought a cake or scones with them. I provided as much tea/coffee/cold drinks as people wanted. People paid £2 for as much cake and drink as they could manage. We had loads and loads of books which we sold for 50p a time and plants going for a similar amount. There was a raffle and folk were very generous with donating prizes and we also did “ pound in a bucket”. We made almost £100 profit which will go towards paying for speakers.

It started to rain quite heavily about midday so everyone grabbed indoor chairs and cushions from the garden furniture and the trolley with books and dashed indoors. They spread out between the conservatory, kitchen and lounge and stayed till about 1.15. I persuaded most people to take their own left over cake back with them though 2 nice packs of scones have made their way into my freezer lol. All the plants were sold and left over books and bric-a-brac will go to charity shops and two of the ladies volunteered to take those for me.

We soon got straight again but you should just see the state of my floors where everyone ran in from the rain with wet shoes. Luckily the lounge is wood and the rest is tiled so they just need washing and it won’t get done today ‘cos I’m shattered now.

I should think you feel shattered too AnnG as you seem to have been busy today.

Mel, it’s good to have a hobby and it is so easy to lose track of time when you are absorbed in something. You clearly love your miniatures so let the other jobs wait. They’ll still be there tomorrow. I’m the same with a book. I say I’ll just read a chapter and a couple of hours later find I’ve read half the book.

It’s going to be an easy meal tonight, probably egg and chips, so I’m now going to spend an hour on the iPlayer watching the Matt Lucas episode of Who Do You Think You Are?

rained a bit here not heavy very light in fact but better than nothing. I did plant out some Rudbeckia that were in the greenhouse and cut the lawn. then I did two loads of washing, including bedding and remade the bed and cleaned the bathroom including washing the floor and also the kitchen floor. Just having a rest after putting away clothes from the airing cupboard.

good morning all 16 degrees here too. I went to sleep before 11 last night, woke at 5am for the loo then went back to sleep and woke at 0845, first time in ages I feel I have lost half a day :-D good to have a long sleep though.
Dry and dull here at the moment. Just stripped the bed so will get that lot in the wash now. then go and water Cynth's baskets, all ten of them are absolutely full of plants so need a lot of water. so far it is out of her water butt. Unlike mine which is not out of the butt, or mostly not. And I am on a meter.

Just taken it out and it has come out perfect except the mould was a bit thin on the top and has creased a little but I can cope with that.

Love your roses Anng. I have a tiny pink old fashioned rose that smells like Ponds cold cream. Its wonderful when you catch the scent on the breeze. The old Albertine smells nice too and is full of flowers this year and been trained around the trellis on the side of oh's filter shed where the clematis died. I am trying one mould tonight but am not expecting it to be a good one as its a bit thin and the first ones often get bubbles in them.

It was dehydration that caused Tony to collapse on the golf course. And later also caused his UTI. So your OH must be careful.

Sometimes he does but often not, despite me keep saying he should Vera. Being an older man now he worries about keep having to use toilets and especially since covid. He doesn't like using school toilets unless he has to anyway. Schools don't think about people having to travel to their meetings and they are often arranged at the end of the school day which suits those that are on the spot at the school. It means those travelling have to set off in the rush hour and allow almost twice the time for the journey and he doesn't want to get caught short on the longer journeys. I think he will have to be more mindful though and I have suggested to him that as we go through life our bodies don't like these fluctuations!

I’ve sent them Mel.

Lovely flowers AnnG. I can almost smell that Rose from here :-). The poppies are pretty and your tomatoes are ahead of mine.

I expect your OH did feel shaky after a long day and an uncomfortable meeting Ann. It’s good he perked up after some rest, food and drink. Does he take water with him when he goes out as that’s probably the most important thing?

I hope your casts turn out well Mel.

30 degrees here and it’s sweltering in the bedroom even with the fan going. OH and I worked hard early this morning before it got too hot. The downstairs is hoovered, 2 bathrooms cleaned and I have put in kitchen roll and waste bins so people have disposable stuff for hand drying. All the tables and chairs are clean and set out in the garden and covered with old blankets and dust sheets so the mucky pigeons don’t make them dirty again. I’ve also put a few chairs and a couple of side tables in the conservatory in case some people prefer to sit inside. In the morning we just have to put out the plant stall and book stall and I have to assemble a cake with fresh cream. Luckily it is supposed to be cooler tomorrow but stay dry till late in the day.

I’m going to shower and wash my hair now and then it will be time to start thinking about cooking dinner. It’s salmon tonight. I’m not optimistic about sleeping well tonight because of the heat but I shall have to be up early so I hope I get some rest,

Stay cool folks and have a nice evening.

Just lopped down six long runners from that rose, it may be beautiful but it is a real thug. the whole lot of roses on the trellis will soon need lopping. I am thinking of getting somebody in to do it. I can do a few but not all that are growing.

While the tomatoes are doing well the Cobra beans are not, I was later planting them than you were so I will wait and see.

Afternoon All,

Yes it is hot, 28 degrees here. OH felt quite ill by the time he got home from his last meeting last night and his hands shook when he held his arms out. He said the room they used in the school was so hot in the city and he was wearing more clothes than he does at home. He hadn't eaten much or drunk much all day so I wasn't surprised. At least in his new car the aircon works. He stripped off and had something to eat and drink and soon started feeling better again.

We nipped out in my car to take our scripts to the surgery and then went to fill up with diesel at Sainsbury's. It needed fuel and I read yesterday about them refusing to buy their diesel from Russia so was concerned whether I might have to go elsewhere. There were long queues and lots of the diesel pumps were not available, but we found one that was and managed to fill up so that was a good job done.

Mandy you are doing a good job of selling it to us! :-D I would want a 'posh' tent, glider wellies to skim over the ruts in, a gallon each of sunscreen and insect spray and a box to stand on if I was to see anything. A bag of titbits for good old Max for carrying our stuff in the trailer though. :-)

AnnG that rose is beautiful isn't it and the perfume must be strong from all those flowers it has. You have more flowers than we do on your toms which look nice and healthy and I love your red poppies

I hope your moulds are good Mel and that the casts turn out well. I bet they set quickly in this heat.

We just had our first picking of the Cobra beans to have with lamb chops and they were very nice. OH is pottering about in shorts and t shirt and we are having a restful afternoon now. I might start sketching the next painting. I did a lot of watering before we went out, but the pots will need doing again later I think.

Everybody must be out in the garden.

I have put the old netting back on the strawberries as the white one was'nt any good for getting it off quickly or back on again. Fed them and had to come in as its so hot out there

EDIT wrote this before lunch and forgot to post it.

Morning Anng and all,

Pc says 15 degrees and clear skies blue and its sunny already.

Want to get some more moulding done today to see if the two things I made work. I never know till I cast them and see if they come out ok. I am really enjoying doing this again as its over 20 years since I did it before when I used to sell my miniatures. I have to get another three coats of the latex on them first and get them dry. I think three coats should do it as thye had three yesterday. Must do the Asda order too or I shall miss my slot.
