Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Jul 2022 19:32

Iv'e tried PVA in with the plaster but I cold'nt paint watercolour on it. If I paint with acrylic on the plaster it comes out shiney and sometimes you don't want it shiney. I am better with the watercolour and I have got a jug out this afternoon.

Mince and mash and greens for me and chilli for oh so I better get his rive on as mines all done and can go in the microwave.

Done some painting and ironing and a little bit of deadheading today and we went to Hatherleigh for petrol this morning.

Morning All,

Dull, dry and 15 degrees at the moment. I need to shower next and water the toms and cues before we go out for lunch.

I forgot to say that the other night I found a photo on someone's tree of my gt grandmother's sister and husband. It is exciting when you find these old photos as there were so few at that time. Wouldn't it be great though if we could see what colours they wore. I must have another look and see if they have any other old photos.

That's a shame about the breakage with the mould Mel, but thin bits like handles must be at risk. Would it be possible to mix something with the plaster to make it a bit stronger do you think, even a bit of PVA glue mixed in when you do things with handles might stop them snapping when you get them out.

Tewkesbury is nice AnnG so enjoy your trip with your friend. I hope you find something nice to buy while you are there.

Have a lovely break Vera and we will be glad to see you post with all yur news. The chicldren and grandchildren will have grown a lot after four years.

Yes Ann the crows and jays and magpies here make a lot of racket too. we have 4 baby bunnies running around the orchard and down by my shed and n the lawn at Prickley Bottom and tonight oh pointed out a hedge hog in the orchard so I threw some chicken biscuit things out. I know theres one round by the chickens as I throw the broken eggs in the nettles round there and he has a great time sorting them out for me.

Trie dtwo more moulds I made today but only one came out whole. I think the jug one was a bit too thick and broke the handle off when I got it out. The other jug one came out well.

Evening All,

It's been mostly sunny again here today but we did get a welcome short shower this afternoon, just after I'd resigned myself to dragging the hose up the garden as well as everything was bone dry and starting to flag. :-(

I hope you have a nice break and catch up Vera. It will be good to meet up after all this time.

I'd not seen that poem before either. OH is just back from his 3rd meeting today and said it was chilly outside. The schools are packing in lots of meetings before the summer holidays.

We have decided to go out for the carvery again tomorrow as we have another 30% off coupon and it will be the last day to use it. The factory shop is in the same village so we can pop in there. I want to see if they have any sunflower seeds. An online friend has lots of Goldfinches visit his feeders and says he crushes sunflower seeds for them and they love them. It sounds less wasteful than the niger seeds and so I want to try them. We are plagued with flocks of young Magpies, Jackdaws, Crows and Pigeons all in the garden at the same time! The Magpies are in the gutters trying to pull the birdproof netting out and making such a racket. The Crows are dunking bread in the water feature like the Magpies do and all are pulling up my cushions of Alpines looking for grubs!! Such a lot of stomping on the conservatory roof........I think their toenails want clipping! :-D

Have a lovely break Vera and enjoy meeting up with family, I bet there will be lots to talk about. Have fun.

It feels quite chilly here now, really quite dark although no rain, quite a strong breeze though again.

That poem’s a new one on me Mel. Could you please send some of your rain over here. Apart from a couple of very light showers we haven’t had any rain for days. It’s just a bit cloudy with an occasional gleam of sun.

This is a quick post as I am quite busy at the moment. I am not sure if I will be on the thread or not over the next few days as we are going to be away. We have a couple of days on our own and then we are staying with OH’s youngest sister and her husband for a couple of days. While there we’ll also catch up with her children and grandchildren. Because of distance and medical problems on their side and ours and, of course, Covid we haven’t seen each other for about 4 years so it will be good to meet face to face

Must get on as I have a case to pack and a fridge to sort out amongst other jobs.

Just looked this up and t is a verse of a very long poem called The dormouse and the doctor. I think you have one of the first verses and one of the last there.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 30 Jun 2022 10:58

There Once was a Dormouse who lived in a bed of delphiniums (blue) and geraniums (red),

And all the day long he'd a wonderful view of geraniums (red) and delphiniums (blue)

The Dormouse lay there,

and he gazed at the view of geraniums (red) and delphiniums (blue).

And he knew there was nothing he wanted instead

Of delphiniums (blue) and geraniums (red).

The Dormouse lay happy, his eyes were so tight

He could not see no chrysanthemums, yellow or white,

And all that he felt at the back of his head,

Were delphiniums (blue) and geraniums (red).

Good morning all. sunny here and 12 degrees so not bad, it is dry but rained in the night.
Up early as we have had a message to say the window cleaners are coming. Sadly they don't give a time so could be any time after 0830.
I have nothing planned. will put a wash in and, if it stays dry, may potter in the garden.
end of the month so there are always the monthly accounts to check. will have to see.

You got a few nice plants then AnnG and some raspberries on the way back too!

Glad you liked the painting. We will have all picked different photos to paint Mel, He gives us about 10 to choose from and the rest were all roads! I won't see the others efforts till tomorrow when he will discuss them all with the. group. Fancy tht cheeky squirrel nicking your strawberries. It's a good job you saw him and could move them before he had more. We haven't had any rain today, just a few grey clouds. Hope the F&C are nice even if you got wet getting them. I could fancy some now.

Yes I know what you mean about the industrial ones Vera and I certainly liked those water towers myself! Stripey things can send your eyes funny at the best of times as can spotted material, so it was a good idea tpo let your OH iron those. Threaten to buy him a dozen more! ;-)

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Jun 2022 19:29

I was out on the patio this afternoon having a ciggy and looked down the garden at the strawberry barrow and something was moving in it. It came out with a big strawberry in its mouth, it was a blimmin squirrel. I have had to move them all into the shed. They are everywhere in there but they will be safe.

Ann I have replied to yur email picture. I think its absolutely lovely and you have it just right. Once again a winner. I would still like to see others attempts.

Its now pouring with rain just as I have to get ready to go and fetch the fish and chips.

Rain stopped play on the hedge today he did go out there but only spent time looking at it.

Sounds like you had a good mouch in the garden center and came home with nice raspberries for afters.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 29 Jun 2022 17:45

I wondered if you would go to a garden centre AnnG.but you got some plants and even ended up with some nice raspberries. I hope your mouth isn't sore after your deep clean. I'm pleased to say that no dentist has ever suggested this to me. I don't fancy it at all.

Sorry to hear that your OH had a headache and stiff neck, Ann, but it's good that his speech went well. He must be very good at the work he does as he is obviously much in demand. Your painting this week is well up to your usual standard and, as you say, more your style. I really like it but, I have to admit, I've enjoyed seeing the less "pretty", more industrial, type paintings you have been doing recently.

I did all the ironing this morning apart from two of OH's striped shirts. .I sometimes have trouble with stripes which appear to wave about in front of my eyes. It's something to do with my migraine. Anyway OH took over and did those. Then we went to just one shop. It wasn't very busy but even so I was surprised that we were the only ones wearing masks. I stocked up with birthday cards, bought several odds and ends and got OH to choose a bottle of Scotch for our brother in law as it is his birthday on Monday and we will be seeing him. Needless to say OH didn't pick out a cheapish blend but a very expensive single malt! I am sure brother in law will enjoy it and I bet OH has a glass of it too. I told him he mustn't have alcohol while he is on the antibiotics but he had read the leaflet with the tablets and it didn't say that anywhere.

I am not sure what I have done this afternoon. I seem to have been quite busy but I think it's just been a bit of this and a bit of that. There's a pork casserole in the oven which will be ready about 7 pm so I think I might go and pour myself a pre-dinner glass of wine :-)

Well yes we did eventually manage to go out so went to Dobbies, not been there for a while so had coffee and a scone then bought a few plants a geranium for an empty pot and an Osteospernum for another empty pot. and six dianthus. Have to plant them tomorrow as it is raining now. On the way back to mine we called in to friends so that I could have a look at her garden. Got back here at 4pm (went out at 1.45). She then had to go with her adult daughter to the dentist as she has a dental phobia. anyway I came home with some raspberries from her garden for after my meal which is nice.

Annx Report 29 Jun 2022 14:59

There was a new lot of tiny ducklings today, so there is quite a gang of different sized baby ducks and Moorhens now. I noticed the ducks don't grab the bread off their own babies which is something. The Moorhens seem to know to hang about near the bank foliage now and I make sure they get a share. All of the wild flowers around the Ice House had been cut down since my last visit which seems a bit premature as they were still flowering. I used the Treck insect repellant, but think I will go back to using the Deet one. I sprayed it on my arms and it came out in blobs not a fine spray and some squirted over my top. I squirted it on my hand then and rubbed it on the back of my ankles. This was all very well, until I had it on my hands and realised it was oily. :-( So all the blobs and squirts on my top didn't dry out. I hope it comes out in the wash. Almost all the dogwalkers say hello as they pass by and I'm sure 2 men with alsations were police dog handlers. Very tall and fit looking with confidence as if they are used to speaking to the public and they were wearing black sleeveless jackets with various pockets.

OH did his speech and said he thoroughly enjoyed it and joined the panel after who were answering questions. Not connected with this, he has been asked by 2 other councils today to apply for work they are offering. Both are about 40 miles away so I'm not sure he'll take them up. He has more than enough to do really.

I've finished my painting and emailed it and sent it to the teacher so will see what he says.

I wonder if AnnG managed to go out to anywhere nice with her friend.

Just cleaned the kitchen drain out and the smell reminded me of going in the swiming baths, bleach and soda crystals.
