Afternoon All,

Still a horrid rain here and only 7 degrees, so it's not warmed up much today. We did a few errands this morning and dropped our prescriptions at the surgery then carried on to the carvery. We thought they weren't opening as the door was locked and it was 15 minutes after opening time and no-one around. After waiting outside we were just about to go when they came and unlocked. The prices are going up next week (no surprise!) but it's still under £8 each for a small plate and we are expert now at fitting more than enough on our plates! :-D I abandoned my trip out in the cold and wet and have finished my painting while OH watches the first world cup game. He has a meeting tonight so I may mop the kitchen while he is out.

Oh Vera, it's hard to say no sometimes isn't it, but it isn't fair that you have become the 'go to' for everyone who can't make it when it's their turn. To have an excuse yourself a few times when they ask might make them find another 'go to'.

That sounded like a reasonable price to sort the dishwasher AnnG and he sounds like someone you will want to use again. You also know it would be easy to swap in the future if needs be. I bet you will be glad to be popping the washing up in there again.

I thought of a snag with using a timer switch on the slow cooker. If I was cooking something with meat in it and wanted it for lunch I would be leaving it out on the worktop all night ready to switch on at about 4.00am which isn't ideal with meat to be out of the fridge all night. So I think I would be best to cook it in the daytime ready to heat up in the microwave the next day. If it's all portions for the freezer it can be cooked during the day too. I'll have to see how it works out.

Mandy an old chopping board is a good idea for a stand and I was thinking of all sorts even a bread board or chopping board too, but mine are quite small ones. It made me think how first OH would have made an oval wooden one with a fancy edge in no time! I did wonder whether to cut to size some opaque plastic blotters I got from IKEA . I use them on the desk top under my paints and under the printer (in case of ink leaks!) I can use a tray I have in the meantime and turn it upside down to leave a nice gap under it. I bet it's lovely to be able to get out and about more now after being confined and unable to do much. As you say you can carry a bit now as long as the bags are light.

My hairdresser is doing discounted gift cards we can use all next year. They are a 20% saving. I thought something didn't look right and they have done their calculations wrong and the discount is actually less than stated. They have just added 20% to the reduced price they want to charge to arrive at the full price of the gift card instead of calculating the 20% reduction on the full price and taking it off. It means you are getting less discount than they are stating. Trading standards wouldn't be happy!

Some of the yellow leaves that are still about do look pretty Mel. What are you doing with the doll's house dolls? Will they be fairies for something or witches? Yes it might be worth you trying to sell some things on ebay. I have sold some things on the preloved site as well. We have little local magazines that you can advertise in. If you get those it might be worth advertising the bigger stuff in them.

When we had our washing machine repaired the chap had a call out fee but that covered any work he did and he came out twice as he had to look and see what was wrong and then order a part and come again ,obviously the part was extra .

Raining quire hard here now .

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Nov 2022 16:35

I see what you mean I must have missed your last post. £69 was a good price and you know you can always call hm now if anything else goes wrong.

What a horrid day it got windy at one point but its dropped now. I think it could be to do with the tides as it usually drops in the evening or at some point during the day. I have had to fish some leaves out of the big pond today but not a great deal.Done a bit of casting but broke them getting them out of the moulds. Just one came out whole out of three.

Hav'nt had the heating on much today just this morning before my shower and I am just about to have a little blast now as its now turning chilly with the light fading.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Nov 2022 16:18

Mandy yes it was a good price but on the invoice there is no mention of a call out fee. Just the work done.

MillymollyAmanda Report 21 Nov 2022 13:39

Afternoon all,

We had a sharp frost this morning and now its very cloudy ,we should have rain later and I think they said the wind should get up.
I had a walk into town this morning to get a few bits for Christmas thought I'd better make a start although I can't carry anything to heavy ,Colin needed a new rechargeable tooth brush as his one wouldn't charge and he had had it a while, my goodness some of them are a price but I got him one from super drug .

Anng that wasn't a bad price for your dishwasher as a call out fee is usually 40 pound or more .

Vera you'll have to put your foot down and say no or that you don't mind doing it if someone else helps too its not fair for them to ask you first everytime , do you have to pay for the milk and biscuits as that's not very fair either .

Ann you asked about standing the slow cooker on something because of the heat ,I stand mine on a board ,it's an old chopping board as I was worried about it getting hot underneath as its on quite a few hours .

I looked in a couple of shops for Christmas cards neither had any glittery ones so I suppose glitter is out this year ,I do like a bit of sparkle ,once I can drive I think I'll have a look in Roys .

Glad your dish washer man has arrived and hope its not too expensive to have it fixed.

The suns out here at the moment but it is still raining on and off and has been all morning and the winds up so blowing leaves in the pond.

Ye Vera learn to say no. they can't keep putting it all on you. Like Anng said say you have something else to do that day or say can someone help you.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Nov 2022 11:34

dishwasher man was here an hour. it was a build up/blockage in a short piece of pipe he has cleared it and it is now running well, should be no problem at all. cost £69. Which I think is fantastic considering he comes from Prestbury (near the race course).  He said any problems to give him a ring. And he had the kick board and front wooden cover off so said it would be no problem at all to put in a new one any time. and he does washing machines and driers as well

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Nov 2022 11:13

Be strong in future Vera and do say no a couple of times, invent a previous engagement or just say you think somebody else she learn the ropes. offer to teach them but don't keep stepping in. People will take advantage (flog a willing horse).
dishwasher man is here and there are lots of bangs and noises so I am not sure what he is actually doing. He seems very pleasant though been here 40 minutes now.

It has poured here since about 8am and is still raining, horrible day

Morning everyone

It’s only 6 degrees here and weather app is telling me it feels like 4. We had our first real frost overnight and some of the roofs are still white. Now it’s just grey and damp with more heavy rain promised later.

The second load of washing is just finishing and I am going to put one more in. I’m not using the dryer much now so there is washing hanging everywhere.

We have a Club meeting tonight but the couple down to do the teas have a funeral today so guess who’ll be stepping in. I am going to have to learn to say No as I think it’s getting to the stage where I’m the first port of call even though there are others who could help. Now I’ve got to go out to buy milk and biscuits to take with me.

Better get on. I’ve got a busy day ahead.

Morning All,

Dull and dreary here this morning and pc says rain which I think it has been doing but its one of those yellowy grey days here and its 9 degrees.

My forsythia's leaves have turned yellow and in this light it looks like its flowering.

Must get a cuppa as my mouth is so dry this morning and I don't know why.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Nov 2022 07:24

good morning all very dark here and 3 degrees but, as far as I can tell in this light, no frost. I am up early so I don't sleep in as hopefully the dishwasher man is due today,

I still have quite a few cards to write as I only do a few at a time. I find handwriting quite difficult these days and my writing gets unreadable if I do too much. I have a few letters to write (type) too to add with the cards, I have slipped behind a bit with my letter writing lately.

Ann I think I have only used the high setting on my slow cooker once, I usually use the slow setting cooking for about 8 hours. But yes, you could use a timer to switch it on I am sure.

Annx Report 20 Nov 2022 18:47

Well another post lost It seems to be my week for it.

I buy quite a lot on ebay as sometimes things are cheaper than Amazon. I've bought a few things that are auctioned too and got some brand new, less than half price paints that I liked once. I haven't sold much, but it's easy if things sell. not so straightforward if they don't though. I obviously need more practice.

I'm suspicious of these deals too Vera but you found a good saving with the pressure washer! Your place will be smart as well as colourful outside next year. :-) My cooker has stubby little feet, but I think I will use a mat under it. I've seen one on line that's black like my worktops so that should do nicely. I suspect I will use the high setting on the cooker most with us having our main meal at lunch time, so it will get hotter than the other settings. I think most garden centres are becoming more like supermarkets lately. I'll be interested to see what the one is like I plan to go to tomorrow, weather permitting. I haven't been since before the pandemic. OH will be watching the England match and I can't stand the baying and roar of the crowds all afternoon!

OH thinks his migraine was because he was squinting at the sun at the match all afternoon and he also hadn't drunk anything all afternoon either. He's lucky compared with you Vera as he doesn't get the headache these days, just the eye disturbances with white zigzags across his eyes and the horrid, tired, washed out feeling after. Luckily it came on after he had driven home.

You got a lot sorted this afternoon AnnG. I must see if I can get some cards tomorrow.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Nov 2022 18:41

I bought 7 dolls house dolls on ebay. I only really want three of them so may put the others back on ebay. I have my SIL coming sometime next week to show me how to put things on ebay so I better sort out some stuff to go on there. May put the other chisels on there and the laser cutter but buyers will have to collect that as I can't parcel that up and send it its too complicated and then there's the pc that goes with it. I also have a jig saw that will make jig saws and lot of other bits.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 20 Nov 2022 17:40

You've been busy with all your present wrapping and card writing AnnG. I must get to the Cards for Good Causes shop in the library and buy some cards. I've managed to order a present for one of my granddaughters today so I now have 2 presents organised. Well, I suppose it's a start.

My OH has bought and sold on eBay in the past though I have never done it. Most of the items we have sold have been quite large so he always says that the buyer has to collect. Come on, Mel, tell us what you bought. I'm guessing something craft connected. Thanks for the photos. The fieldfare looked as though he was enjoying his picnic and the photo of the robin is lovely. You can keep the frost please though I see we are predicted to drop to 0 degrees tonight. Brrr

Ann, I don't think the base of my cooker gets very hot but mine is on feet, no more than 1 cm high but enough to leave an air space underneath. You're wise to stand it on something if you are unsure. You don't want to risk burning your surface. I hope your OH's migraine is better today.

There was an hour's break between the rain yesterday so I got the rest of the daffs planted - 3 more big pots and a few little tete-a-tete in the garden. I planned to carry on with the rest of the tulips, just a dozen or so bulbs, but the heavens opened so it didn't get done. Neither did I get any h/w done. The morning seemed to slip away and in the afternoon we went to an out of the way garden centre that we haven't visited for years. I was a little bit disappointed as it used to be much more of a plant nursery but now it seems to have fewer plants but to sell everything, like any other garden centre. Having said that, it was all good quality stuff and its Christmas goods were beautiful but expensive. All I ended up buying was a small Secret Santa present but we had a nice cake and a pot of tea in the restaurant.

Today seems to have flown by and I've not done much again. We did have our Sunday roast with "afters" and everything except some greens got cooked together in the oven. I must admit we did enjoy it.

I found a good Black Friday deal yesterday. I am very wary of these so-called "deals" as they are not often as good as they sound but this sounded OK. OH never liked pressure washers but early in the summer I persuaded him to borrow our daughter's small Karcher one. Now he wants one but not that one. Oh no! He wants a powerful Spear & Jackson one at £220. I said I thought that was too much to spend on something that would get very little use. Yesterday I found that Argos were selling it at half price £110. We checked carefully that it was the same one and had all the right attachments so I ordered it. I think it does everything but sing you a lullaby lol. I've had an email today to say it is at our local Sainsbury's and we can pick it up so OH is pleased and I am flavour of the month.

I'm rambling on again. I hope you all sleep well with no restless dreams tonight. I've got a busy day tomorrow so thank goodness I seem to be getting a bit of energy back..

AnninGlos Report 20 Nov 2022 15:56

finished wrapping son's family's presents. so just daughter's and son in law's and Cynth's and the two step grandaughter's

And halfway though writing the cards. tired now so my writing was getting bad so I have stopped. Do more tomorrow.

Good for you to have a lazy start sometimes, hopefully your OH's migraine has gone. Hope the shopping didn't get wet.

Mel well done, T always used to buy and sell on Ebay but it has never appealed to me at all.

Annx Report 20 Nov 2022 15:46

What did you buy Mel? Weren't you allowed to before? Next you will be able to sell things too. :-)

Annx

Annx Report 20 Nov 2022 15:44

Afternoon All,

Yes we had a lie in AnnG! We planned to go for a walk this morning, but neither of us slept well so gave it a miss. OH had a migraine when he went to bed, then like you he said he was dreaming, but his dreams were about ghosts!! lol. I woke at about 6.00am and noticed a beam of light across the ceiling that disappeared and came back a few times. As it was just getting light I thought it might be a good sunrise so got up to have a look through the window. It wasn't the sunrise, it was a car going up the close slowly and stopping a couple of times before carrying on slowly. It made no noise so was probably electric. (hadn't thought before, but they are ideal for thieves at night aren't they.) I hope it wasn't someone up to no good.

You need to get your Christmas organised early with the swapping of presents don't you AnnG, but it's good to get ahead with things anyway. It's good you got some eggs with your order and nice deep yolked ones too. The far west of Cornwall was badly hit with bird flu a few months ago, but things may be better as it isn't on any news I've seen since.

Sunny here first thing Mel, but your rain showers seem to have arrived here, just as the food order is soon to arrive. I hope it doesn't get soaked. It always seems like Christmas will soon be here when you start the advent ring. Good idea to have a day off and do some craft.

I have just got my first thing on an ebay auction. First time I have ever done anything like this .

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 20 Nov 2022 12:12

I thought they might be for the girls Mel.

Probably quite a lot on my mind with the dishwasher and getting all the Christmas presents in the right place on time. Got all son's family's presents wrapped and ready to go on the 3rd when he collects them. Grandson's are all ready as well. Just be the other grandson's to be collected then on 11 December. Then I was working out when I can get my Christmas cottages done. I think that will be 30th November.

Tesco been. I did get eggs (The St Ewe ones) But a couple of things unavailable and mushrooms a short date (22nd).
