I'm here now Mel :-)

I hope they sort your payment out quickly Mel, whatever it is. I hope it's not with the DWP. When I changed my bank account they kept paying my pension into the old one. It took me months to get them to put it right. In the meantime my pension was in a sort of holding account and I couldn't touch it If I hadn't got OH to support me I don't know what I would have done - starved I suppose! I didn't even get an apology from them.

You are well ahead with your cards AnnG. I was going to buy mine today but by the time I was able to get to the Cards for Good Causes shop it had closed.

We had an interesting talk at the Club meeting last night. It was supposed to be someone from the Hedgehog Hospital but again there was a last minute change of plan and we had a chap from TWAM, Tools With A Mission. They work with various charities in Africa. The idea is that rather than just dish out bits of goods or money, they provide people with the training and means to make a living. They collect used tools, sewing machines, agricultural tools etc., clean and refurbish them and pack them in complete kits to get a carpenter or plumber say started in a career. Some of the sewing machines are electric but many are hand machines or even treadle machines for places where electricity is unreliable. They are sent with needles, threads and enough material to make one or two garments to get them started.

Tea at the meeting was a bit of a shambles again. This time it was because there was a blood donor session going on in the main hall so we couldn't go in until they had finished and cleared up. Unfortunately all our tea, coffee, sugar, etc and disposable cups are kept in a locked cupboard in the main hall. We were able to get them by 8.30 but tea was a little later than usual. There were already biscuits there so I brought mine home again. Apparently the tea maker now only needs to take fresh milk. You can get the money for that from the treasurer but no-one bothers to do that. My friend M helped me and several people thanked me for doing it. But if I am asked again in the near future I will politely suggest that perhaps someone else could do it for a change. I did win a raffle prize - a couple of fancy pots of jam in a posh box.

This morning OH planted the rest of my tulips for me so all the bulbs are planted now. Hooray :-D I hoovered through while he did that and then I went online and managed to find Christmas presents for our 2 step grandsons and their partners, so they are ordered now. Then this afternoon we had afternoon tea at our local hotel. It had been a pre-pandemic Christmas present but the expiry date had been extended because of all the lockdowns. It was the usual finger sandwiches, scones and cakes but was all very fresh and nicely presented with proper linen napkins and nice cutlery. It made a pleasant little break. At the moment I am still full up so it might just be a very light snack later this evening. I certainly don't want a proper dinner.

I'm getting a bit cold up here in the study so I'm off downstairs now. Anyway I'd better go and remind OH that it's bin day tomorrow and the general bin must go out as he forgot it last time so it hasn't been emptied for 4 weeks. Leave it much longer and it'll walk there on it's own.

10 degrees.......it never got above 7 degrees here AnnG. Well I got the hoovering done ready to mop the floors then I couldn't find the mop anywhere! I texted OH to ring me after his first meeting, as I thought he might have moved it, but when he rang me back he said he hadn't touched it! A neighbour called then to say our bin had been left at another bungalow, so we had a chat after sorting that out. OH then came home as he decided it would be too long to wait till his next meeting. He found the mop in the porch cupboard!! How it ended up there is a mystery as it doesn't usually live there. Is this the future! lol. OH did some work then, so was out of the way while I was Mrs Mop!

I managed to find 2 nice little artificial christmas trees online for my little cupboard tops, so have ordered those, more LED lightbulbs, Christmas Cards and a knife sharpener and have ordered 2 books OH wants for Christmas as well.

It's always the same when you are waiting for a delivery Mel. I have asked for a refund on some avocados that were in date till the 28th, but were spoiled when I cut them open. Fancy having a problem with someone paying a wrong account. I hope they can sort it quickly.

I need to send my painting to the teacher now. Instead of looking like a cartoon it is more like a caricature now!! lol Goodness what he will say about this one. Well they can't always be good can they.

I was busy sticking stamps on all my Christmas cards Mel. Done now.

That is a bit bad if they has sent your money to the wrong account. Hope you get it in the end. Actually they should send you the correct amount now and then get the wrong amount sent back.

So what happened. The minuet I got up the top wall and cut some ivy the asda man arrived so I had to walk all the way down the garden to put the box out for him. He was waiting at the front door by the time I got out there and took my coat and boots off. I just knew he would come when I was at the farthest point.

Still it all here now so I can go out and not worry about him turning up when I am out so sight.

10 degrees here now and sunny so I have just been out in the garden cut down a bit more of the buddleias, think that will be ok now for the winter, also cleared a lot of the leaves from that bl***y tree in the next garden. Can't get them all up so they will have to rot where they landed, mostly on the slate bit. I did get a small humper full so they have gone in the compost bin to rot down for next year.

Daughter is at Lanzarote airport waiting for their flight. Security apparently set the alarm off from her OH's replacement hip!!

8 degrees now, sun still shining. Bedding washed, just about to make the bed. Kitchen floor mopped. Flash Power mop liquid has run out so I thought I would source a refill bottle on Amazon bottles £4 each but you have to buy 4 bottles (each one is 1.25 litres). So I looked on Tesco and yes they do it and can order one bottle for £4. However it remains to be seen if it is in stock at the weekend.

Morning All,

That is balmy weather you have Mel. It's barely reached 7 degrees here yet. Yes it's a pity the roofer didn't put a temporary tarpaulin over the leaky part of the roof. Oops! I see you popped a post in while I was dawdling with mine and explained!

We were up early this morning and OH has gone to the first of two meetings and won't be back till tonight as one is out in the sticks and he will be halfway there going to his first meeting so it's not worth him coming home inbetween. He got back late last night so I did him some ham cobs to take with a banana today as he was busy printing stuff he needed for today. So I have been able to get lots done without interruption this morning. Bed changed and washer on, popped to the shop for a few things, filled the recycling bin as it's bin day, done some shredding and re-organised a built in wardrobe that has the bedside light switch inside it, so I can reach it easily to switch it off in the daytime as the extension cable to reach the other bedside light has a standby light on it that can be off in the day. Next job after my COT is to hoover and mop the kitchen, uti, ensuite and bathroom as I never got round to it the other day.

When I went to the shop, on the way, the fields both sides of the road were like lakes with the floods and had seagulls swimming on them. It sounds a better day where you are AnnG, but at least it isn't raining here now.

Yes I was surprised they did'nt put a sheet onthe roof but perhaps they had'nt one big enough. when I had the porch apex done in the front by the local builder he put a sheet on the roof before he did the job. We weighed it down with all kind of big heavy weighs we had and the weighs off one of the mowers etc.

I was going up the post van but Adsa is due quite early so I don't think I will make it in time as the van goes at 11.15 ish and the delivery is about 11am. I bet it dos'nt come till late and I could have gone.

AnninGlos Report 22 Nov 2022 09:32

Actually Mel, I am surprised that the roofers didn't cover the roof until it could be fixed as Vera said.

It has struggled up to 5 degrees now but I am hoping we had enough rain yesterday to be going on with, it tipped down all day.

Good morning

9 degrees Mel - that’s positively tropical ;-). It was only 2 degs when I got up. Now the iPad is telling me it’s 6 but feels like 2 degs. There’s thick cloud and a very cold wind. Think I’ll go back to bed.

Is your roof problem covered by insurance? If so, insurance companies are usually keen to prevent things getting worse and they might send someone to cover your roof till it can be fixed.

OH is calling me. Bbl

Morning all,

Very dull and dreary this morning and its raining !! what a change........ My mushrooms in the lounge are getting bigger an now there's more of them. I wish the roofers could come and put a sheet on the roof to stop the water ingress. At this rate I will need extra boards up there.

Got another bid on ebay today for some dolls house minitures and there's 10 hour and so many minuets to go.

Hope you all slept well.

I did write a few cards yesterday evening so I have made a start. Today I have to start the advent ring so its ready for Sunday.

Dad had an engineering workshop with a big machines in but I thought your OH's were perhaps modelmakers' ones Mel. I know dad's were heavy as I used to have to help him when he wanted to move them around and I'm sure doing that helped do my back in! Why don't you ring some of the machine tool merchants in Devon and ask if they buy secondhand machinery as there are a few? Note down the make and model as they will want to know and the age. Just google the name and model of things to find new prices or look at merchant's sites like Mandy suggested for the tools, then google the name and model again adding 'secondhand' to get some idea of prices.

I can see like with other ways of cooking it's a case of experiment Mandy. I like my pressure cooker for some things as they are quick, but the slow cooker frees your time up which is good as well.

It's been raining heavily almost all day here and OH will get soaked just getting from the car to the front door when he gets back. The big run off pond they dug out a couple of years ago near the river was full when we drove home earlier so the floods will be across the fields if this rain carries on much longer. Maybe I shouldn't have sold my canoe. :-D

MillymollyAmanda Report 21 Nov 2022 19:00

That's the only thing with a slow cooker Ann you have to work out your timings but as you say you could cook one day and eat it the next .
I found the stewing beef cooked in there took quite a while on high so might have been better cooking for longer on low.
But then again if I use the pressure cooker it's cooked in about 25 minutes.

Mel perhaps if you have a look on the Screw Fix site or Tool Station it will give you an idea of the new price of all the tools then you will have an idea of the price you could charge for them.

But Ann my stuff is really big!!!!!! I would'nt be able to move the lathe or the blower attached to it and at the mo there are lots of things in front of it. Tim who came the other day and bought the chisels did say he would be interested in the band saw thats in there I just have to work out a good price which is'nt easy.
