We had a really lovely day at Aira Force and Ullswater. The sun has shone all day. Back here the sun is still out but there is a strong wind off the sea, not cold though. Aira Force is pretty but the climb up and down all the steps to see the waterfall from higher up was hard on the legs. Good exercise though and we had a picnic sitting in the sun. One of the paths was closed because of several trees being down which was a shame. Still we saw most of it and I am pleased I managed it. We actually didn’t go right to the very top but that was not just my decision. We then drove to Glenridding, stopping along Ullswater to take photos of the Lake, then down to the quay at Glenridding where the boats go from. Lots of reminiscing from daughter and I as we plus daughter, late son in law and two of the boys as baby and toddler stayed there for a week in about 1990 and daughter and son in law climbed Hellvelyn. Although the road there is twisty and narrow, the views were lovely

Shopping arrived ok and then the mower man drove down the drive from the car park and I could hear it coming down and thought thats my mower. BIL said it may come back on Tuesday or wednesday and he is coming on Thursday so will be able to cut the front lawns now with their stripes.

Just had a knock on the door and it was Em's mum my friend Val and she brought me a lovely lemon drizzle cake for doing the scarecrows and I shall cut it in half and put one half in the freezer or else I shall eat it all.

Going to get ready now for the doc's so see you all later and tell you hhow I got on.

Afternoon all

What a change from yesterday! It's dull, grey and very windy. Apparently it's 10 degrees at the moment but the wind is making it feel much colder.

It's good you got a quick appointment to see your doctor Mel. I am sure he will be able to reassure you.

I hope you are having better weather at Ullswater than we have here AnnG. When I first read your post I was really puzzled by Arrange Force. I wondered if it was a shop I hadn't heard of or some strange tourist attraction, then the penny dropped and I realised it was probably a waterfall. I googled and think you probably typed Aira Force and the iPad has kindly "corrected" it for you. Or am I completely wrong?

We've been for our dental check ups this morning. No problems for either of us. I had a couple of x-rays again as my teeth have had a few problems and the dentist likes to check from time to time what's going on under the gums, but she said there are no changes since the last lot of x-rays so she was happy. Next appointment is already made for 6 months time.

I heard on the grapevine that our doctors' surgery is now doing the next lot of Covid booster jabs so we called in on our way back from the dentist and got ours booked for 29th April.

We had an interesting talk at the Club meeting last night. It was a lady talking about a trip she and her OH made to Sicily. She had lots of lovely slides for places they visited and talked about those but she also talked a lot about the history of the island, particularly during WW2. She also talked about the rise of the Mafia and the people who have stood against them and who tried to curtail their power. I didn't have to be "tea lady" last night. Our friends M & V did it. All I had to do was show M where she could find a large jug and a plate for biscuits. OH won a bottle of wine in the raffle so it was a good evening all round.

I'm now going to get myself a slice of toast for lunch. I don't fancy anything else. OH has got some cold beef and I expect he'll put a bit of salad with it.

Sadly we saw very little sun here. We went to Dobbies near Carlisle but most of the way was in mist or fog. We saw a glimmer of sun on the way back but here it was still Misty and not very warm. Hoping for sun tomorrow.

Evening all ,

Mel I hope ths doctor has got back to you now and the nose bleeds have eased up ,have you really blown your nose hard or had a sneezing fit ,it's probably a little vien in the nose and when you bend down it's putting lots of pressure on it and if releases it .

It's been a really beautiful day here really warm in the sunshine ,I went out and washed all the window sills and had a good sweep up by the back door ,got two lots of washing done and also washed Max's blanket .
I got the stairs hoovered and then gave the hoover a good clean out.

Vera put your foot foot down on doing the teas ,that's not fair you doing it nearly every time you go to the meeting .
The Banana bread sounds nice and it's very god of him to share all the baking he does.

SuffolkVera Report 17 Apr 2023 17:17

I hope your doctor has rung you back by now Mel, but try not to worry too much. Nosebleeds are horrible but are very seldom caused by anything serious. As AnnG says try to avoid bending for the time being.

We have been to a few of those live screenings, AnnG, and they really are very good. They can be a bit long. As well as the actual performance there are usually interviews with various people involved that are sometimes interesting but do take a lot of time. Yesterday's show was 3 1/2 hours but the actual ballet was only a bit over 2 hours. The rest of the time was 2 15-minute intervals and all the interviews.

What a beautiful day it has been. It's been almost like summer with blue skies and wall to wall sunshine. The temperature only reached 14 degrees but it felt a lot warmer. OH spent a good part of the day in the garden and has taken up 20 dead hebes and hand weeded quite a big patch. I did 3 loads of washing, made some phone calls and put into bigger pots the hosta and the agapanthus that came in our plant delivery the other day..

After a sandwich lunch I was just going out to do some jobs in the garden and enjoy the sunshine when our neighbour across the way knocked. Every couple of weeks I give her our newspapers which she passes on to her nephew for starting his open fire going. She is a spinster lady in her 70s and not in the best of health and I always invite her in. Usually she stays on the doorstep but I think she was feeling lonely today and came in. Nearly 2 hours later she left and it was too late for me to do any gardening.

Our "cooking" neighbour has just been with some banana loaf for us, He is still bringing us cakes and goodies every so often. We're so lucky to have such friendly and kind neighbours.

I shall have to cook dinner in a minute. We have to eat early tonight as it is one of our club nights so we need to be out around 7 pm. Apparently we have a talk on Sicily tonight and I am NOT doing the teas - well, not officially. It is the turn of our friends M & V but V can't see well and is a dear man but a bit of a bumbler so I have said I will help M if she needs it. She said she'll see if one of the others can help before she'll ask me to do it again. Nice to see someone has noticed how often I have done it.

We both have a dental appointment tomorrow and have to be at the dentist's for 9 am. It's a half hour drive and we always leave a bit of extra time to allow for hold ups so it will be an early start. It's just our 6-monthly check up and clean so nothing to worry us but I hope she doesn't find anything that needs to be done.

Right, I had better start cooking. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Hope you can get some answers Mel. Try not to bend over for the moment.
I assume you have not knocked your nose at any time?

Just had another one when I bent down to pick up some pot saucers off the patio. They don't last long but its a bit worrying when you see your blood dripping on the ground. I rang the doc and am waiting for them to ring me back so stuck indoors as they ring on the landline. I have fed banty but not the big girls incase the phone rings and I shan't hear it right round there.

AnninGlos Report 17 Apr 2023 08:15

Yes it is Mel, nobody to tell you not to worry. But very wise to check it out if it is unusual for you to have nose bleeds. So ring the doc this morning.

Vera, those live films of performances are good I believe. I have not been to one but my friend often goes. They are put on in Gloucester Guildhall where I have seen normal films. A lovely little theatre. Glad you enjoyed it.

Morning all,

Quite a nice bright morning here and pc says humid 10 degrees and now it says partly sunny.

My nose bled a bit in the night so I think I shall ring the doc this morning. Its a bit scarey when you are on your own.

SuffolkVera Report 16 Apr 2023 18:27

Poor you Mel. You are having a rotten time. I hope tomorrow will be a better day.

It’s not been bad here today. It was misty first thing but then it brightened up though it’s still a bit nippy in the breeze.

I did a bit of potting on this morning. Then we had a very early lunch as we were going to our little local theatre to see a screening of the ballet Cinderella from the Royal Opera House. It started at 2 pm and we left home really early because of the problems with road closures. We had a gift voucher for the tickets plus a bit of money to add and I still had to pay as I booked over the phone. I needed to leave time for that as well. Of course we drove straight there without a problem, paid at the box office straight away and still had half an hour to kill. So we had a short walk along a wooded path by the river. The birds were singing their little hearts out and it was lovely.

The ballet was superb. The lighting, staging, costumes, everything seemed perfect. You don’t think of ballet as being funny but the scenes with the ugly sisters were hilarious. I know seeing it on screen is not quite the same as seeing it in the flesh, but to travel to London and buy the cheapest seats at the Royal Opera House would have cost us well over £200, probably nearer £250. Our two seats this afternoon cost us £32.

OH has just made himself some cheese on toast so I think I might go and get myself something now. I fancy toast with scrambled egg.

I have had another one. I bent down to do a bit of weeding in one of my pots and it went all down my cardy and on the patio.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 16 Apr 2023 15:00

Is that something that you often get Mel?

Just had a run out for coffee at Maryport. Not nice at all today. Very grey and overcast and cold so we just went to the cafe and then drove home. We did detour round Maryport itself to avoid the traffic coming the usual way because of the diversion for roadworks.

Awful, those days Mel and they don’t stop. They do get further apart. It is when you have time to think then keep remembering little things. Just relax and get absorbed in something. Tears help, it will pass.
