Good morning all. a bit grey bright at the moment and 8 degrees. Off out later to see a film on the father of impressionism. (Pissaro)

Vera, I am sure that it is likely to be an age thing. our brains are tired with all that it clogged up in there. I make lists of things I have though needed doing every day now. actually there is the sense of achievement when I have ticked it all off. But also these days I have a habit of starting one job, remembering another halfway through and going on to do that then remembering before finishing the first job. that adds to the brain confusion as well. eventually no problem it all gets done. But annoying when you forget things when you are out. with me that would involve another bus journey. Which is why I usually take lists with me. (OK if I remember to check them........ while I am out).

Mel you had a busy day and got lots done yesterday.

BIL came and he mowed and brought the big trailer to the front of the bungalow so I could cut down the big Hydranga which I did. he emptied the trailer for me and brought it back to the Forsythia and left it there for me as I wanted to cut that down. I took some branches off the apple trees and cl.eared those away and then tackled the Forsythia which I have cut back quite hard and there was a lot of dead old trunks in it. The trailer is full again now but he's coming tomorrow and will empty it for me. Had a fiddle about out there and have now come in to have something to eat but I don't know what!!! Mum always used to say if you don't know what you want your not hungry.

Good afternoon folks

The day started grey and then about 10 am the wet stuff just fell out of the sky. It poured down for a couple of hours. It’s eased off a lot now but I think it’s going to rain on and off all day. It’s 11 degrees but there’s a wind from the north which makes it feel a lot colder.

My back is slowly improving and I am trying to get back to normal while still being careful. So we’ve had a h/w morning. OH cleaned all the bathrooms while I had a good dust and vac downstairs. At the moment I can’t manage to push our heavy vac around but I can manage with the cordless one. I had thought I might get round the whole house but I did everything thoroughly and I’d had enough by the time I’d finished downstairs.

Yesterday, we met friends in town for coffee and took the opportunity to take more stuff to a charity shop. There’s still a load of stuff cluttering up a spare bedroom but it’s a case of “out of sight, out of mind”. I keep forgetting it. I am beginning to wonder if Covid, which we had last October, affected me more than I realised. Since then my brain has been made of cotton wool. Yesterday I made a list and I wanted to go to Waitrose for a couple of bits, Roys for some horticultural grit and the pet store for a sack of sunflower hearts for the birds. What did I do? I forgot what I planned to do and forgot to look at the list! So we only went to Waitrose and now have to go back to town for the stuff I didn’t get. I used to be so well organised that I find it very frustrating to have all this brain fog. Maybe it’s just old age.

Oh has just called out that lunch is ready so I’d better stir my stumps and get downstairs.

Morning all,

Dry and cloudy when we got up so I nipped to town for a few bits nearly finished what I wanted to do and then down came the rain ,got a little wet but now it's coming down quite hard so nothing will get done outside today as I think it should rain off and on all day and it's chilly with the wind.
Got some ironing to do just having a coffee first.

Morning all,

Quite bright this morning but still lots of cloud in the sky and pc says 8 degrees and mostly sunny so it could look promissing for a nice day ahead. I may the windows cleaned. I noticed the [atio door were very dirty yesterday on the outside where the rain splashes up off the decking so I may get the pressusre washer out and do the patio and windows if it stays nice.

Should smell nice Mel.

Mandy, yes the garden group. had a good natter. It is never just about gardening and plants but a lot of general natter but we enjoy it. It went well and they were able to get out and wander round the garden and offer helpful comments and commiserations (plants lost0. It seems I was not the only one to lose plants.

I can remember spring cleaning myself when first married. That was in the days of T smoking indoors and coal fires which made the curtains filthy. so washed curtains and nets and washed all the paintwork down. Haven't spring cleaned since we had central heating and T gave up smoking indoors first, then completely.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 May 2023 14:40

Not done any HW today so far. I cleaned all the windowsills in the kitchen yesterday and the midges are about and this morning they were covered in live and dead bodies. I have now put fly pen round the windows in the hope I don't get many mo9re in. I think the pond attracks them.

I have done some casting and a bit of painting though.

I used to love it when my and nan used lavender polish and its one of the things that I can use now if I go steady on it. Not the sprays though. I am not too bad with the antique wax either which is what I normaly used. I shall have to see if they still sell lavender real polish.

Morning anng and all,

Once again its dull and miserable here this morning so think your self lucky you have some sun Anng. Enjoy your meeting and have a good chat.

Its 11 degrees here and pc says mostly cloudy and it right and I don't think we are going to even get a glimps of the yellow stuff today.

Shall carry on with my HW today as I did'nt get the windows done yesterday after all. I did wash down all the back door inside and out and the paintwork round the skirting boards so I have those to do and hoover the rest of the hall and clean the big bathroom. That lot will keep me occupied for the day I am sure.

I think its because I have to have the small tanker and they don't want to send it all the way from Cullumpton for one delivery so I may have to wait till the next order goes in but it may not go with the same company as Keith rings round all the companies to see which will give him the best price.

Had a huge salad tonight with tuna and boiled egg and homemade coleslaw and cottage cheese.

The next bank holiday is the end of the month ,I think I was wondering if it was this weekend again as the bin goes out a day later again next week .

Few rumbles of thunder and its now napping down with rain again .

You still waiting for your oil Mel ,maybe you need to give them a ring to see where it's got too

Mandy its been quite nice this morning and I got the wahsing on the line and hoovered the kitchen and then sucked up all the spiders and webs wiped down the kitchen cupboards and the boards under them and washed all the back door down inside and out. Not got o the windows yet as I was hungry so I did a sandwich late and watched Doctors and am now having a cuppa and must go and see if my scripts are in as I have been without one pill for a couple of days now. we have to order our scripts 5 working days in advance but with all the bank holidays I could'nt get them till the 9th and then when I went up there I forgot to ask for them in the shop.

I still hav'nt had my oil and Keith has another order out now so its well over a month since they shoudl have delivered. I must dip the tank again but every time I think of it its raining cats and dogs.

Better get on as I still have the windows to do they are in an awful state.

Did I tell you I saw my first May Fly on the 5th May and not seen once since.

Afternoon all,

Nice sunny warm day here ,boy did we have a storm yesterday it poured and there was thunder and lightning for a couple of hours .
We have been out this morning putting the little greenhouse together and I have put my Geraniums in there for now then I can put two or three tomato plants in there .
The Geraniums I bought fro Aldi a couple of weeks ago four plants for £1.79 I have had them from there before and they have been lovely plants , I bought seven lots of them .
We didn't save any from last year as they were left out for ths winter when I broke my wrists and couldn't get them up.

Vera I didn't realise the carbon monoxide alarms have a shelf life, we just put new batteries in ours .
Rest that back now so you can enjoy the family get together ,didn't you have to come home early last time because OH was poorly or have I got that wrong.

Just got our recycling bin in Anng they are always a day late with the bank holidays ,is it another Bank Holiday this weekend too .

Mel I hope you get a trouser day and not shorts lol

Thanks for that Vera, it is in my head now :-D Hope he soon comes. don't you just hate waiting for somebody to call to do a job?

Pleased there is some improvement with your back hope that continues and yes, continue to rest it.
It was lovely and sunny first thing but now it is pouring with rain although it is 15 degrees. I just managed to get outside and cut off all the dead tulip flowers when it stated to rain. No hope of doing any more in the garden before the meeting tomorrow. what a pain!! heavy rain yesterday late afternoon and evening too.

I couldn't do anything while it was sunny as I was busy dusting downstairs and cleaning the cloakroom.

Now I have my and Cynths recycling bins to take in and they didn't come until it started raining.

We never did get our coffee. Before I could put the kettle on the phone went and it was the gas man to say he was on his way. The boiler is only a couple of years old so we knew there would be no problems with it but he changed our carbon monoxide alarm as he said it expires this year. I didn't realise they had a limited life. The one he has put up now should last till 2033!

OH is getting our lunch and I am really ready for a cuppa now.

Morning ladies (and any gentlemen that happen to look in)

Beautiful day here so far. It’s sunny, 15 degrees and with a light breeze. We had a lot of heavy rain yesterday evening and overnight and we are due more rain this afternoon so I’m enjoying seeing the sun while it’s here.

Like Mel and AnnG I ought to be doing h/w but I am a bit limited at the moment with my back. It is slowly improving but I don’t want to risk making it worse again as in just over a week we are supposed to be going to a family gathering of OH’s family and staying with his sister for a couple of days.

At the moment we’re waiting for the gas man to come and give the boiler it’s annual MOT. He’s supposed to be coming some time between 8 am and 1 pm. While we’re waiting OH is potting up some tomatoes in big pots for me, with me supervising of course ;-). They can stay outside now. We’re also going to put the geraniums out. I lost most of mine this year but 10 flourished and are blooming in the conservatory. As it happens 5 red and 5 white survived and they will go nicely in 2 troughs and soon spread to fill them.

OH drove me to Sainsbury’s yesterday to get some fresh veg and salad stuff plus a few other bits. The veg was appalling. It looked as though it had all been sitting on the shelves for weeks. The outside leaves of all the greens had gone bad so the insides probably weren’t very good, the parsnips were tiny, shrivelled things, the broccoli was yellow and the leeks were well past their best. What has happened to Sainsbury’s? I ended up going to the freezer section and buying a load of different veg there.

No sign of the boiler man yet so I think I’ll go and make a coffee. Anyone remember Flanders and Swann singing “ ‘Twas on a Monday morning the gas man came to call”?
