Afternoon All,

Firstly well done to Jake on passing his test. :-D :-D He must be so delighted!! :-D :-D. Also to Chelsea on successfully getting a place to do the childcare course.

I've only just seen about your poor head and reaction to the meds Mandy as I wasn't on here yesterday or this morning. It does sound horrible and a bit like the sinking feeling before a panic attack. It's likely your meds though with them changing the dose as you say. I hope you've managed to get an appointment with a doctor now. At our surgery now, once you are in the phone queue you can press a number and they ring you back once they reach your place in the queue which is much better and seems to work ok. (fingers crossed!). Have you checked your BP since?

Ann G we used to do similar sometimes when OH would be needing to stay overnight between office visits (all in this country). Rooms were usually double anyway, but if not he would book a double and just claim half for himself and only claim for his own meals. I would go along for the ride. I remember going with him to Warrington and looking round the shops and seeing the huge Town Hall. Next day we were at Rhyll first and I walked on the beach while OH called in another one of his offices. It was a freezing February, windy and not a soul in sight and boarding houses run down or for sale. Then on to Bangor and finally driving home in a blizzard on the welsh mountains. It was a great way to visit places I normally wouldn't have. It's good you are getting Jake booked up early to do some work for you.

We Called at a pub we used to go to near the retail park this morning and had scrambled eggs on toast, then we went to Lidl in the city and got some things OH wanted. There were two homeless men sitting at the entrance and OH said there is one that sits in Morrison's doorway where I pick him up after his hospital appointments. We then carried on to the bespoke jewellers that made my eternity ring as they have a sale on. We hadn't been since before the pandemic and were shocked how high the prices are now! Prices seem to be double, even those with a 50% discount and nothing took my fancy or was anything special, so OH's credit card was safe! :-D

It's 11 degrees here and rainy and blowy here too Mel, but dry all morning. Enjoy your meal at Stu's. It's nice not having to cook. :-D

Well done Katie too. I hope she enjoys her course and you never know what it might lead to. I know someone who got some childcare qualifications and ended up looking after the children of a Canadian couple and travelling with them and seeing quite a bit of the world. I hope you manage to speak to a doctor today Mandy.

It's still dry but very cloudy here and though it's quite warm the cold wind is back so it doesn't feel very warm. I think it's due to start raining again this evening. We both need to get out in the garden and do some cutting back and weeding but neither of us seems to have time or energy at the moment. I got as far as walking round this morning and noting what needs doing but actually doing it is another matter ;-)

Yes AnnG, the kitchen fairy did a good job on the hob last night but I think I'll have to renew my search for a new cooker. Finding one that fits the space, matches with other equipment in the kitchen and is suitable for my style of cooking is not easy. I'm prepared to spend quite a bit but some of the things I've looked at online are just silly money. At this rate by the time I find one I will no longer need it because I'll be too old and decrepit to cook - it'll be meals on wheels for us.

OH has improved a lot in the last day or two. He has started finding jobs to do - usually the sort of jobs that involve getting in my way - but it's good to see him being more active again. He still has another 3 or 4 days of antibiotics to take but they do seem to be having an effect at last.

I have been on to the prescriptions team at our doctors to see why I haven't got one of my prescribed meds. They swear blind that the chemist I use has the signed script from the docs and should have given me the tablets I need. The problem seems to lie in the NHS system that our surgery has been using for the last few years. With repeat scripts we can have 6 monthly ones and then if we say we need more the doctor will want to see you. If, like me, you are on medication permanently after each batch of 6 you just ring the pharmacist at the surgery and ask for your script to be reissued and it's done immediately. The problems seem to arise when there is a change of tablets in the middle of one of these batches of 6. Everything seems to go out of synch. I've had that happen twice recently. First doctor decided to up the dosage on my bp pills, and then a couple of months later he added another tablet. It's a real pain in the proverbial but hopefully I can pick up my missing pills tomorrow or Saturday.

I only have a little bit of ironing to do but I would like to get it out of the way before I start preparing veg etc for our meal so I had better get on. As OH has perked up such a lot perhaps I can persuade him to make me a coffee to keep me going.

I can't remember if I said but next door that has been empty for way over a year after the old fellow dies. I thought daughter was going to move in but not so sure now. I assume probate has been granted as yesterday two large vans were there. House Clearance on both vans and both were absolutely packed to the back door with furniture and stuff. I don't know if they came back and I didn't see but I looked out just now and and I couldn't believe it. They have stripped the garden, taken a large wooden table and an arbour with a seat that Mac made down in the corner of the garden. Even all the pots from by his patio and a couple of those had the dog's ashes in them. How sad. I suppose I should be grateful that they have left the fence.

Good morning all. 12 degrees here and dry a bit misty. Just seen a weather warning for snow in March from the second week until the end of March. Snow and ice. That is not going to be good.

Mandy hope you are feeling OK this morning and hope that Jake passed his test.

Vera hope the kitchen cleaning fairy got the hob clean of oil splatter ok. :-(

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 Feb 2026 23:10

Fingers crossed for that young man in the morning.

Hope you can get some answers Mandy you can't go on like this its wearing you down.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 25 Feb 2026 20:30

Oh Mandy, that sounds horrid. I hope you get a good night’s sleep. If you can’t get your doctor tomorrow, try a pharmacist as Ann suggests but if they can’t help then you could try ringing 111. We have found them to be helpful with advice or getting a doctor to ring us back and twice they have got us an appointment with a doctor, though admittedly they were both out-of-hours appointments. I’ll be sending good luck vibes to Jake in the morning.

The day has flown by again and I don’t have time to write more now. OH fried something in oil and I think more ended up on the stove than in the pan. He cleaned the pan but didn’t even notice the state of the cooker so I am going to clean the hob now.

AnninGlos Report 25 Feb 2026 19:23

Hope that you can have a good nights sleep tonight Mandy. It sounds horrible and should be sorted. If you can’t get hold of a doctor could the pharmacist help you?

No not dizzy Anng it's an awful feeling ,like someone using a dimmer switch, everything goes quite black and you feel like your going then your back ,I feel really drained and tired after .
There's a lot of side effects with these tablets and I think doubling the dose just doesn't suit me ,I've tried to persiver with them hoping my body would take to them but I don't think it's going too , I have my tablet review next month and hoped with the indegestion and tiredness I could go till then but not after this morning.

Haven't heard from the doctor so I'll have to see if I can get through in the morning , this new system at our doctors isn't working at all everyone's complaining about it .

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Feb 2026 15:38

when you say you felt faint Mandy, do you actually mean dizzy? iif so, did you turn your hear suddenly while lying down. I have to be careful not to move my head quickly even while lying down.

I shall have to send him good luck as soon as I wake up then,

did a bit of admin on here and then chatted via email to my sister. Then I walked down to post some letters, that was about a third of a mile there and back. Came back and did a bit more on here, trying to organise for Jake to do some jobs in March. Then did 40 minutes in the garden, weeding, so many weeds out there but I couldn't go on longer than that, also cut back a bit more of the 2 hardy fuchsias. And I noticed down the garde a definite sign of a hedgehog making its way down the gareden, hope it is tucked up when the weather turns cold again. As it will.

Thank you Anng son has been and sorted it .

I had another of my feeling faint and bad in bed this morning so I rang the doctors and of course they were full to capacity but the lady in the call centre filled in a form and said someone will get back to me so I'm still waiting to hear , it just leaves me feeling so drained and tired.

Thank you for the wishes for Jake he called in with son this morning ,he has a lesson this afternoon then the test tomorrow at 7.15 keep all your fingers crossed for him .

If it is an Ipad Mandy try the following

Place two fingers on the floating keyboard.

Spread your fingers apart to enlarge the keyboard back to its full size, then let go.

You can also tap the More buttonnull, then tap Full to return to the default keyboard.
