15 degrees and bright sunshine now so I walked down and posted the birthday card for one of my Grandsons. Legs are stiff today with trailing round B&Q with my friend yesterday. So it was a slow walk using my stick.

Morning all,

Had a nice bright sunny morning so up I got and put the washer on . It finished a few moments ago and the suns disappeared and the sky is grey. Pc telling me temps to drop and its 12 degrees.

Added to my Asda order and taken a couple of things off. They are not doing my decaf coffee anymore and it was n order on rollback at £4 instead of £7 so thought I would get one in as a spare. I have only just opened the last one I had on spoecial price.

Sorry you had a bad night Anng was anything on your mind??

Annx those lights are ideal for in the hall to the loo as you only need a small one there and a warm white one would be not as bright as a white one. I looking for places now to put more. They would be great for people with stairs. I'm thinking bathroom or hall now as I hate bright lights when you're half asleep and have to go to the loo. I do [put my solar light in the hall and the bathroom but with these lights I would have to bother to put the lights in there or to charge them up in the bedroom and change them round as the sun goes round like I do now.

A beautiful bright morning here. Such a welcome change after a mostly wet weekend.

I could do with getting going in the garden,to make use of our increased price bin (£63.90 this year), but I'm too busy with other matters today, so will hope for some more dry bright weather, before next week's collection.

Your mention of the postbox AnnG reminds me that I must walk passed our nearest one, to see if there is any information. From passing in the car, I have seen it all taped over for several days now and covered in black polythene. Someone said we are getting a replacement box, which will be solar, so I need to check before I actually want to use the post.
I hope you find a dry time to walk today.

Good morning all 9 degrees and very grey here looks like rain soon. I need to get a card to a post box so I will have to wait for a dry spot. I didn't sleep very well last night, lots of dreamomg amd tossing and turning. Strange when that happens and there doesn't seem to be a reason for it.

That is annoying about your delivery van Ann. Can you complain to the customer services. could you temporarily when an order is due, put your car at the entrance to the drive? Or would that putit in more danger.. Does the driver need to turn when they get to yours?

Annx

Annx Report 1 Mar 2026 21:05

Evening All,

It's been a better day than expected and no rain thank goodness. It was lying in puddles on our gravel last night. I didn't sleep well, mostly due to thumping music I could hear till 1.30am. I could still hear it when I put the TV on. OH said it would be Ramadan celebrations at one of the big houses on the main road. Their huge, long gardens back up quite near to our close.

Food order came this afternoon and despite me telling the west indian young chap last time not to park on our drive and risk knocking the neighbour's wall what did he do, but back up our drive within an inch of the back of my car! I started to tell him to be careful driving out and he said he knew so he had chosen to ignore me which is annoyiing. It would only need his foot to slip on a pedal and my car would be damaged. They had sent a sub Called Montezuma's 100% cocoa for my usual 90% chocolate and I thought it would be ok, but it was really horrible!! So horrid I had to spit it out. There were 4 bars so I've asked for a refund on 3. Yes I worry about coming across floodwater at night when the roads are wet and shiny anyway. One ford across a brook not far from us and known as Watery Gate is notorious for flooding and there are always warnings but people still get stuck. Earlier this month a photo showed one car up to the top of it's roof in floodwater with a Boot's little delivery van next to it.

Oh Vera you are really being messed about with your tablets. It's good you are going to change your pharmacy I think. We can do it online on our surgery's website which saves calling at the surgery. What a mess that tea would have made everywhere, a bit like glitter at Christmas. I hope all goes well collecting the car tomorrow. You will be glad to get it back.

AnnG you have the same problem seeing your lower rail of clothes then. It's annoying when you pull the wrong top out and have to hook it back without the hook moving and tangling with it's neighbours.

Mel I think a motion sensitive one would be handy in our hall by the bathroom door as well. We have changed most of our lighting to be brighter now we are getting older and at night when OH nips to the bathroom the hall is like Las Vegas and the bright light round the door is like 'The Shining' film and can wake me up.

Vera poor trainee lad coming in front of you ready for a fight :-D I am wondering what is going to happen when I go for my next lot of pills. They are going to want to know why the long gap since my last visit. I am the. Going to explain that last time I went in I was handed two bags which when I checked outside was two lots of the monthly pills. Ow I immediately realised that this was because the time before they were not able to find the prescription it was when they went over to the new system and I had to go back the next day to collect the pills. I guess I was. Is given the Pills that had been lost plus the current ones. So I kept them. If I had returned them they would have had to be destroyed.

It’s been drizzle and light rain all day and it’s felt a lot colder than the temperature indicated. It seems so changeable from one day to the next.

Your big breakfast sounded good Mel. I love the idea of cooked breakfasts but find if I have anything like that before lunchtime at the earliest it upsets my stomach. If we have visitors OH will cook a huge meal for everyone else while I nibble on a bit of toast. The light you have bought for the corner by your kettle sounds useful though I don’t need it as I’ve got strip lighting wired in under all my kitchen wall cupboards. They aren’t motion activated but immediately by the door into the kitchen there is a strip of four switches and one of those turns on the lights under the wall units. Have you heard whether bil managed to get photos of the long eared owl?

The flooding in your area doesn’t sound much fun Annx. I hate coming round a bend in the road and finding myself facing flooding as you can never really be sure how deep it is. It hasn’t been too bad round here. We have quite wide water meadows round the river in this area and they take the bulk of the water before it floods the roads.

The bingo night at your son’s school raised a good amount Mandy. It always sounds a good school with supportive parents. I love the accessories you’re making for the rabbits. All these little extras make them a bit special.

Well, you are right AnnG. I was aggravated at the chemist yesterday. They seem to have gone to pot completely. They have plenty of staff but they all seem to be very young and they just don’t have the experience to cope with anything that isn’t completely straightforward. Yesterday I had a young chap serving me. I explained the situation (again!), told him they would have had a message from the surgery and asked him to check if my tabs were ready. I watched him checking at snail’s pace all the made up and bagged prescriptions in two deep drawers. No joy with that so back he went to the computer and then informed me that I had a batch of these tablets on 6th February so wasn’t due anymore yet. I just looked at him and very calmly said “You are saying you gave me 28 pills on 6th February. February has 28 days so those pills should not have run out before 6th March. They ran out yesterday on 27th February. Now I would like to speak to the pharmacist please.” I felt sorry for the poor lad as he was probably an untrained “trainee” on minimum wage but I had just about had enough by then. Anyway he scuttled off and came back a few minutes later and handed me a bag saying that the pharmacist said I could have the tablets as though they were doing me a great favour. I did make a bit of a show of opening the bag and checking that I had the right pills. When I got home I checked my diary and the posts on here around 6th February and there is no way I could have been at the pharmacy on that day. I had an opticians appointment and had to go by bus as the car broke down the night before. Then I spent a good part of the day helping OH to organize getting it repaired and early evening the breakdown truck came to take the car away.

I’ve been buzzing about today trying to get ahead a bit as I have another busy week. Bedding has been changed but not yet washed. Towels have been washed and dried. I’ve sorted an order out with Sainsbury’s for delivery Tuesday morning and cooked a full roast dinner I’ve also helped OH sort out some banking that he had got in a muddle with. In fact he is not having a good day – nothing wrong, he is just being a man. First he overfilled a tea caddy by emptying a whole packet of loose tea into it. He then plonked it down on the work surface without making sure it was balanced properly and it fell over. The pottery caddy just rolled across the surface so didn’t fall and break but the tea went everywhere. Can you imagine how far 250g of loose tea leaves can travel? We’ve swept and hoovered and wiped down but I think I’ll be coming across little black tea leaves for weeks.

And then there’s the saga of the keys……………perhaps that’s a story for another day.

A quick wave ~~~~~~~~ to Gwyn and EOS and anyone else who looks in and I am on my way.

Afternoon all,

We've had a little sun and it's been dry but it's not very warm so we've just lit the fire .

Mel we bought one of those lights that go under the wall units from Lidls a few years ago I use it quite a bit but ours plugs into a socket ,the ones your talking about sound better as there would be no wires , they are very handy on a dull day , I did say to Colin we could do with some the other side of the kitchen .

Nothing planned here ,I just feel so lazy so I'll sit and knit I think , Katie took the little rabbit home the other day and I realised I hadn't taken a photo of it , I have made a few bits to go with the rabbits, a handbag, a backpack ,a suitcase and some carrots ,I need to think what else a can do .

Morning all,

Slept well but had a funny dream that I can't really remember this morning.

So where did February go? That makes it 10 months to Christmas!! Pinch and a ounch and all that. Its 11 degrees and the suns out at the moment but it feels cold. I have put a cosy cardi on as I wnat to save the oil incase we get a really cold snap with snow as we've had snow in March before a few times since I have lived here.

Now Annx asked if the light I bought was bright, you can get them in three brightnesses bright white, warm white and white whatever that is.

Anng you asked about magnet. The back of the light is metal and you stick pads on the metal put the other pads on the magnet pads andstick it up wherever you want the light. They are rechargable and the charge is supposed to last a year. When I got oit out of the box and plugged it in a red light on one end came on. Before you put it where you want it you have to set it to whichever mode you want by pressing the swith so manyimes before it will work. I think it was four times for the motion sensor bit which is whar I wanted. Also I bought the warm white one but the other one I have ordered is the bright light one.

Take a look online and see what you think. You can get them in a lot of different lengths.

Good morning all. 7 degrees, dull light cloud but dry so far. Nothing planned so far so will see what comes up.

Ann that must have not been a pleasant drive out with all the floods, shunting traffic into the least flooded roads doesn't help either. My wardobe light is not really in the right place eith, it helps if I put the overhead bedroom light on but I still have a problem with seeing colours of tops on the lower rail.
Hope you can get the plastic chain sorted, that could be a nuisance if you can't

Mel how do those light fix to the wall? I thought you mentioned magnets but that would only work if attched to metal.
Hope BiL managed to get his photos of the long eared owl, if so, hopefully we can see one.

Vera, I can imagine that you would have been rather aggravated to meet yet another problem with the pharmacy even after sorting it with the surgery. Sometimes it is hard to see who is in charge with our prescriptions and it seems that often it is the pharmacy and not the doctors.

My head and eyes have cleared now and I am fine but very tired. The bad head kept me awake most of the night and it's been another hectic day and I have only just managed to get on the thread so won't be posting much again. I have read all your recent threads and apologise for not commenting a bit more.

It's been a drizzly, showery day with a bitter cold wind and the temperature seems to be dropping quite fast tonight. I dashed out without a scarf or gloves this morning and came back from town frozen. I got my tablets but only by standing my ground in the pharmacy when they tried to tell me I wasn't due to collect them till 6th March. I will definitely be going to the surgery in the next few days to change my "nominated pharmacy".

Mel, you asked about the car. We are getting it back on Monday. OH feels fine to drive now and seems to be almost back to normal but I will go with him so I can take over the driving if necessary.

I'm now going to take the last 2 tablets of the day, clean my teeth and take my book to bed. Have a good night everyone.

PS Mandy, I paid our annual garden bin bill at the end of November and it had gone up to £69 so ours seems to be the most expensive. We do get a fortnightly collection all year round apart from the 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year.

Annx Report 28 Feb 2026 21:03

OH had to avoid floods when he went to footie and our local news shows so many roads impassable with the police trying to find accommodation for rescued horses from flooded fields, two were up to their chests in water. I know the weather is getting more rainy, but the massive housebuilding going on around here is to blame as well. Also every housing development seems to cut down all the trees and hedges (unecessary) and they absorb a lot of water.

I've just finished the food order, but there seems to be a shortage of tinned sardines for OH. He usually has the ones in olive oil but they haven't had them for a month and now they haven't got them in sunflower oil either. Maybe it's just Asda though so we'll have to try elsewhere.

Thanks for mentioning it Mel, as I was looking at some of those lights online recently as they came up on my homepage. That showed them being used under eye level kitchen cabinets. I have a built in wardrobe in a dark bit of a bedroom and the electrician put a light in there, but not where I asked him too and so it doesn't shine on the lower clothes rail with my tops on, so I can't tell the colours without lifting them out. The builder built this wardrobe in and it has double doors with a door frame around and I thought I could attach one of those lights to the side of the door frame. Is yours quite a bright light as I wondered if they would be bright enough?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Feb 2026 18:15

I meant to tell you this. I bought from Ebay a light that goes under my kitchen cupboard in my dark corner where the kettle is. Its a motion sensor one and was expensive and its rechargable and is fixed up by magnets. I have ordered another one that 50cm as the first one is only 10cm. Now everytime I goto the kettle it lights up and I hav'nt got used to it yet.

You should take a look at them on Ebay butlook through as some are cheaper than others.

I did have an egg but forgot to put that on the post. The eggs come from my friend Loraine who I get my chickens from when she has to have a chuck out. She does eggs for Waitrose thats why I had to have white hens that lay white or blue eggs.

We too must have had a lot of rain in the night as down the side of the chicken run its about two inches deep water where the ditch used to be. It usually drains away quite quickly but its still theretonight when I corned the girls.

BIL did'nt come with me today as he wanted to go and see if he could get some photos of the long eared owl. Not sure where he went, he usually goes over Exmoor and goes with a friend. They own a drone together and both love their photography.

Annx Report 28 Feb 2026 15:48

Afternoon All,

Well it certainly rained hard here last night. So much so that when I went to the shop this morning the floods were worse than ever. I had to turn round again by the station as the few cars attempting to pass through the flooded road were only the tall SUV's and they were making high bow waves. Others like me were turning back. I went along the main road and had never seen water all across that road before, but it was shallow. Driving into the village, as expected the road the brook goes under was closed, so I drove another way to the Co-op, turned into that road and saw a sign saying 'road flooded' but carried on slowly thinking the flood was the one further past the shop. I turned a bend by the old folks' bungalows and the road was completely covered in leaves and debris for about 40 feet, but luckily the water had drained back into the brook. On the way home on the main road, the very shallow water across it had three waterfalls in the middle where a drain cover was lifting!

Mel that sounds like a good filling breakfast you had so you don't need a lot more today as you say. I suppose your own eggs are nicer than most. I certainly thought so! It reminds me of the Olympic Breakfast that the Little Chef used to do. We always used to have one when we went on holiday. That had the same without jam or marmalade, but would also have fried potato slices. It had orange juice and tea and you got a free Daily Mail too. Nowadays I wouldn't have the bacon, sausage or hash browns, but probably an extra egg instead! I bet BIL enjoyed his breakfast too and well done winning a raffle prize.

I'm glad you are a bit better today Mandy and gave the hoover a run out. Has Jake been out for a solo run driving yet? :-) Our garden bins have gone up in price too. The small bins from £30 to £33 and the bigger one we have has gone from £41.70 to £48. Our service stops from December till 10th of March though so not a full year. OH decided at the last minute to go to a match a few miles away, but it's raining again now so I expect he may get a soaking. Yes I have one more place to search for the sketch I did and then I may get the paints I need out. I need to finish the food order first though.

I hope you feel better today Vera and manage to get your tablets. It does sound a good idea to use a nearer pharmacy with the problems you have been getting. We changed to one near the little co-op I use, but there is a closer one in this village, but that is harder to park near. We may change in the future though or get our meds delivered.

It sounds like a few jobs have been ticked off the list AnnG! Also some HW done so that is good. I've just added a job to my list as we've noticed the plastic chain with clips on the vertical blinds on the front windows seem to have perished and a few have broken or come unclipped. I need to dig out the warranty and see if it is still valid. I expect last year's heat may have caused it.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 28 Feb 2026 14:55

Mandy our brown bins have gone up to £60. but as we can have them empied every two weeks all year that is not too bad. The only time they don't get emptied is if it is bad weather over a bank holiday, we might well miss a week then.

I think that will be the last job today. I have on my dressing table figure that has hooks on it for mecklaces and I have just sorted it out and cleaned the silver chains. Anything gold is elsewhere, these tend to be less expensive chains etc. I now have a small box of necklaces for charity I have mainly only kept the ones I can put on over my head, so longer ones. I can't do up the ones that have to be fastened these days (well have not been able to do that for quite a while now.

Afternoon all,

Very grey here now but we did see a little sun at times this morning but we also had a little light rain, the road was very wet when we got up so we must have had some in the night .
I didn't have to bad a night and today I have hoovered through ,son and dil brought the shopping in but didn't stay for coffee as son had to drop Chelsea into work .

Vera I hope your head is a little easier this morning and you've managed to get your tablets .

Anng our garden bin is due for renewal the end of March its gone up to 62.50 ,so 2.50 more this year ,I'm not sure if ours do any labels as this was our first year with ours .

Mel that sounded a tasty breakfast ,was it serve yourself ? Well done winning the raffle , son and dil went to a bingo evening at the school last night ,they never won anything but they did say there was 72 people there and they raised twelve hundred pound for outside equipment for the school so that was good .

Ann I expect OH is off to a football match now the weather is a bit better ,time to get your paints out lol
