Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Feb 2021 10:04

Morning all,

Gl;ourious day again and makes a change from a good day to back to grey the day afterwards.

Oh is in the garden doing the wire on the patio but I hav'nt been up long. I shall be out there as soon as I have done a bit indoors.

Oh has his jab this afternoon at our docs in Black Torrington at 2.45pm so that will stop play for a while.

I need to cut down the rest of the clematis on the patio today as the little flowered one is shooting already and the Jackmanii is'nt far behind. Then its attack the front of the bungalow where all the alchamilla mollis grows.

O he's pressure washing, better go and see if I need to move anything.

Wipe down all done and everything put away with OH getting in the way and thoroughly annoying me but I kept my temper. Yes he did decide to prepare the veg just as I started but I managed to confine him to a corner of the kitchen for that. Then he decided that the dishwasher had to be emptied right then and kept wanting me to move so he could put crockery away. Grrr. Now I am sitting here with a well deserved glass of wine :-D

Glad we’ve heard from you Gill. Fancy your sister not telling you your Mum was in hospital. I hope she recovers quickly. Another stent will make all the difference to her. Sorry to hear that Sandra has tested positive and hope she has only got a mild dose of Covid. Is someone with her in Chester? Does she understand that she MUST NOT go out even if she feels OK?

It’s good that rail is being put in at last Frank and it would be great if you could get your patio relaid as well. Maybe things are looking up a bit for you now.

Ann and Mel, thank you for your cards which arrived at lunchtime.

It’s not been very bright today but it’s still mild and we’ve only had a couple of light showers. I had some urgent post so decided to get some fresh air and walk to the nearest post office. I hadn’t realised how unfit I’ve become. By the time I got back I was shattered and there and back is only a bit more than a mile. I must make more effort to get back to walking more.

I’m now waiting for Sainsbury’s to arrive. OH is cooking tonight and I said to him to get everything prepared in advance because of the Sainsbury’s wipe down. Has he done that? Of course not. So he’ll be faffing round me peeling potatoes and cutting veg while I’m trying to wipe and put away. Men!!

Good we have heard from Gill and our Frank today. Sending love to both.

I have been in the garden this morning. Potted up 7 cowslip seedlings taken from my one plant I had last year. They have been in the shed all winter but were a bit to crowded in the pot so they are now done. Oh has done my pond witht he new plastiuc wire and at the moment he is pressure washing something. I have to go and cut down my two Clematis and clear the patio so he can put the new wire round that to keep the pheasents off and I can then put a new string of seed lights on it as the one thats been on there for about four years has at last given up the ghost.

Afternoon all, Just checking in, I don't want you wondering where I am.

Was going to get the scooter out this morning, BUT.someone turned up to put a safety handrail down the steps to the lawn. He's still here, just finishing off. He noticed that the patio is a bit of a hazard with it being a bit high in places, and told me to contact my care worker, to see if they can get it taken up and relayed. It's something his firm would be able to do.

It's started to cool down outside, so I won't begging out on my scooter YET AGAIN. The mornings seem to be the best time to go out. So will perhaps try tomorrow.

I have had my 4 wheel walker delivered today. It has brakes, a seat and a shopping bag, if I need it. The seat is fitted with a non slip BRAKE, so I can sit on it without it moving.

Ros is still tidying the flower beds out the front, and putting a few plants in, that she bought on Tuesday.

I had another IFFY night last night with my back. It woke me up overtime I turned over. I am most comfortable sitting up.So might try to get forty winks in the armchair this afternoon.

I hope you are all well and I send my love and best wishes. xxxx

Afternoon All,

I woke a few times in the night but was straight back to sleep again so feel quite refreshed today. The sun is shining and the wind has gone so it all helps you feel better. :-)

Hope you don't miss the library Mel. Do they stop in a particu;ar place for you to go to?

Sorry Sandra has tested positive for Covid Gill, but it was kind of inevitable with all her mixing since she moved out. Hopefully it will be mild but will have taught her to be more careful. I suppose the 2nd test will be to make sure the first wasn't a false positive. It's all very worrying for you and I hope SS are seeing she has enough food etc in the flat till they find her somewhere else. I think it is poor your sister not letting you know your mum had gone into hospital, but it happened to me when my sister's ex husband didn't tell my sister or me or even his 2 grown up children, one of whom was living with him at the time. that my mum was in hospital. If your mum needs another stent she should be fine and I know of someone with 4 stents. Try not to worry about things you can't change and look after yourself and just keep in touch when you are able so we know you are alright. Our internet has been a bit tricky and going off at times lately.

AnnG I think OH has some stronger supermarket glasses than mine from when he had his cataracts done a few years ago, as between each eye being done he needed to be still be able to read and write his notes. I have my next eye test booked now but I think it could help with my painting in the meantime.

My new slicer thing (mandoline?) is unpacked now so I might try it later. I have warned OH that the blades are lethal and to only clean it by swishing in a jug of soapy, boiling water and rinsing or he could lose his fingers!! I have also unpacked a tiny , silent travel alarm clock I sent for since OH said the clock in the study wasn't working and the alarm on the bedroom one is unreliable. Of course, after I sent for it, I had a fiddle with the one in the study and it is working fine again now! I shall still keep this one as it is nice and small (only 2 inches square) to fit in my case to take away and I can use it when I need to be sure I have a reliable alarm for appointments!

Getting on with my painting now, even though I should try and do something in the garden. OH is working away and has nearly got up to date with his work again.

Good to see you are ok Gill we do worry if you don’t just pop in and say hello. Sorry about your Mum hopefully she will be fine with another stent. Yes and sorry Sandra picked up Covid, as Mel said that was inevitable. I hope she has stayed in until testing negative. I am assuming, or hoping she has it fairly mildly.

Sunny and dry here this morning, looks a bit chilly though but thankfully the wind has dropped.

Morning all,

Sunny today and oh is out doing the pond.

Giull o glad you popped in and sorry to hear Sandra has corvid but it was bound to happen with the way she keeps moving about and going out. I hope things settle for you soon and your mum's stent op goes ok for her. She will soon be back to her normal self. Oh has had stents and so I think has rank's Ros.

Have to see if its library today as I missed it the last time it came and with another lockdown I am not sure when it comes again.

Hope you all slept well or at least got enough zzz's in to see you through the day ahead.

Sending love to all. <3

HAPPY BIRTHDAY VERA <3 <3 It sounds like you've been spoilt.

Sorry I haven't been on here for ages, my mum ended up back in hospital and might need another stent putting in. I got a phone call just after midnight the other night and it was the emergency people she has, to do with her bed sensor and push button she has. Sorry I can't remember what the service is called. Anyway they rang me asking if I knew where my mum was as they'd gone around there and she wasn't in the house. I didn't know where she was so of course I didn't sleep very well that night. The people had sent someone to her house which is how they knew she wasn't there. I rang mum the following day and that's when she told me she'd been in hospital. Apparently my sister knew but never told me. She never tells me anything regarding mum being ill or in hospital, but then that's her all over.

I've also had problems with my Internet, it keeps going off, I've got an engineer coming on Sunday so hopefully things will improve after then.

I'm so sorry I haven't sent any birthday cards this month. I hope you had a lovely birthday to Mel. My heads been all over the place lately with Sandra and my mum. Sandra caught Covid and has to have another test on Saturday. Her friend has said she doesn't want her there anymore so she's in a flat in Chester until she's over the virus, then I think the social are going to find her somewhere else to live, so at you can see I have a lot on my mind at the moment.

I'm sorry for worrying everyone, I've just lost track of days. Thanks for your PM AnnG, I'm okay, just a bit worried about Sandra and mum, but hopefully things will be better soon.

Thank you Gwyn and Island, I have had a lovely day with so many calls, cards and pressies. Since I posted before I’ve had another garden voucher, more flowers and 6 pairs of socks. I had another 3 calls this afternoon and this evening I had a long FaceTime call with son, dil and 2 of my granddaughters. Aren’t people nice? It’s a difficult time of year for me as yesterday was the anniversary of my mother dying and the anniversary of my father’s death is on Saturday. I also lost a favourite aunt in February and of course this year I have had my brother’s funeral so I tend to be a bit down at this time of year. But everyone has been so lovely to me over the last couple of days that it’s really given me a boost.

Good news about your blood sugar levels Ann. It’ll be all home cooking from now on then :-).

No birthday cake Mandy. We both like fruity things but aren’t so keen on cream cakes and icing. In fact we just finished the last of the marmalade loaf cake I made the other day.

I think I'll have to get my act together and do some h/w tomorrow. Boring!

I have varificals they have always been fine for the computer until the last two pairs now I invariably have to use a magnifying glass for small letters and numbers. I was reading about somebody who suffered with neck and shoulder pain for years and it has just been diagnosed it is because of her varifocals. She got different glasses just fir the computer and her pain has gone. So I might get myself a pair.

Annx Report 24 Feb 2021 20:42

It could be gesso or gouache she used Mandy. Either would seal the surface although I've never tried them yet.

The surfing duck wasn't a bit scared was it Mel! It would be a shock to see one come whizzing past you in the sea.

Well I rang our computer support before giving up and they found the window to put the key number in had to be changed so it would show the box to put it in. The trouble was that to do it he had to make the words on the laptop so small I couldn't read them and I couldn't see what this long key number which had letters and dashes too was as I was typing it in! I ended up with a magnifying glass in one hand, but it worked and is all done now and he put things back as they were afterwards. I also dug out some old cheap supermarket glasses I bought last time I painted a ceiling and they seem better for reading the computer screen but obviously useless for distance!

Thanks for posting that link Gwyn. She's good as Mandy said before, but you'd think the tea might stain the paint colours. Acrylic would probably work though.

We had some rain for a short while and the wind hasn't dropped all day. I've had a tortuous time trying to load my 'Office CD' onto my new laptop. I did it with my previous laptop and the one before and had the product key, but it went so far and then there was nowhere to enter the key number this time!!! :-S I think I must have used up the number of times it could be used so it looks like more expense!

OH has a meeting now so I might do some more painting and then an early night as I feel quite weary.

Morning All,

<3 <3HAPPY BIRTHDAY VERA <3 <3. You have done well with all your presents and cards and are being kept busy with all the calls. I too like the sound of the cats.

I was up before 8.00am AnnG, ready for my course at 9.00am. Mind you I didn't sleep well and could have done with staying in bed longer! It was bright sunshine near York where the teacher is but has been dull and windy here most of the day.

I wonder if Frank will be going for a spin today! :-D

I had some surprising and good news from my blood sugar HB1Ac test yesterday. Despite the test including Christmas, when we eat all the wrong things for blood sugar, my levels were down 3 points, so I am classed as 'normal' now and am not prediabetic like in the last 2 annual tests. I've done less exercise than ever, have hardly lost any weight, so it must be diet and home cooking. I ate healthily with all the carveries before, but it was easy then to call in the shop for treats to have later
which doesn't happen now.

It sounds like your son has plenty to do with all the checks that have to be done Mandy. H&S has added lots of work. My mind was boggling at the thought of how you would paint on T bags!! :-0 Were they very tiny paintings or did she cut the bags open and flatten them out to paint on? The pencil cases are another good idea for the children, but it's years since I sewed a zip in something and you have to be very accurate from what I remember! It was warm yesterday as you say and we had lunch in the conservatory as the sun had warmed it up nicely. We saw some Crows seeing off a Buzzard that was flying too low for them and are looking forward to sitting out watching the birds again.

I hope we hear from Gill soon?
