OH can be irritating at times. Why when I am in the middle of wiping down does he start questioning what I have bought and take my mind off what I am doing. It was bleach this time.......why did I get some (in a sharp tone ) and did I know we already have about a dozen bottles? So I had to tell him it wasn't just bleach it was limescale cleaner and I got 2 sorts to see what was best. Well that shut him up, but why does he need to know and what does it matter if we have some extra bottles of bleach? Then he sees things I've ordered for me and asks if they are for him and says I should have got him some! I ask if he put them on the list and he says he didn't know he could get them but he's too lazy to look on line to see what they sell himself. :-S I've just told him Mandy was talking about good uses for old socks the other day and that I've thought of another one!! lol That made him laugh and he said 'oh that's what they used to say isn't it, put a sock in it'. It's a good job we can laugh.

What are you knitting a square to make Mel? Did knitting make your poor thumb joints ache with gripping the needle. I still have knitting to finish, but haven't done any for ages. No flowers on the Blackthorn tree just the other side of our back fence either.

I had some powder come yesterday for getting rid of the Miner bees. Well I read that you can't get rid of them completely and can end up with really big colonies, thousands, and although they aren't likely to sting, they don't like me using a trowel near their burrows and buzz closely round your hands, arms and feet so I need to keep the numbers down. I've never had them anywhere else I've lived and not here till last year. A friend a few miles away noticed she had some last year too.

Why is it that things always seem to go wrong all at once and not now and then? Sounds like you have it fixed though Ann.

I have had a look at the blackthorn trees over the back but they are not in flower either. Gills trees must be some kind of prunus to be flowering this early. My Magnolia is just about to burst into bloom and the daffs have been really good this year as has the forsythia. Its done much better than last year when it hardly had a flower on it and we cut it back after flowering too.

Been having a go at soem craft this afternoon. Did some knitting!! something I hav'nt done for years but it was only a small square I needed but my poor left thumb did'nt like it at all and hurts like billyoo now.

We hav'nt heard from Island for a while either so I hope she is ok. Sending love Island. <3 Pop in when you can and tell us what you have been up too. Have you sown any seed yet?

I can sort of see where your father in law was coming from, sort of how Ibfeel sometimes but to an extreme level, as if it was not his to touch as she had always done it, he couldn’t bring himself to compete.. I will do as much as I can this year, it is harder because no prep was done in the autumn only what I managed to do.

Annx Report 28 Mar 2021 19:47

Well the food came at 5.45pm in the end and the driver said this year everything had gone wrong with the times on the computer and the hour change today. He thinks it will be ok for the next order so I will start the next order in a couple of days and see what time is shown on that first. One loaf was well squashed so I have asked for a refund on that, but for the first time I did get the corned beef hash that I ordered and failed to get many times.

I can imagine it seeming strange about the seed planting AnnG. We all tend to have our own jobs in the garden and mine has always been the seeds, OH the weeds (since he retired). I'm sure T wouldn't expect you to take on all his jobs he did as well as your own so don't try to do too much. Grow a few if it helps to have the familiarity of them there to see growing, but you can always get some bedding plants to fill in with later if you want to. My first in laws were really keen gardeners and had a narrow garden, but it was 300 feet long and they had a greenhouse and grew everything and sold veg, pot plants and flowers. MIL looked after the front garden which was a mass of bedding plants , so pretty that folk would stop and photograph it and she did the borders in the back garden. When she passed away, FIL just carried on with all his veg, tomatoes and plant growing, completely ignoring the overgrown front garden and back borders. I never asked why, whether he just had no interest in it or what. He grew pot plants and sweet peas on cordons and pot plants to sell and Chrysanths like footballs so it wasn't lack of knowledge.

I enjoy the ice skating and think they are very brave as it has become so gymnastic these days. Not sure I agreed with I think it was John Barrowman who said it was harder for the men with having to lift the women. I can't imagine some of the men managing the acrobatics the women do or the headbanger! When I tried ice skating at Nottingham ice rink I could hardly stay upright, yet I was fine on roller skates!

Forgot to say we lost all our recordings on the Sky box last night and this morning, yet the tv channels were ok. It kept saying there was a software problem. It's never happened before, but most unexpected, switching everything off and on again fixed it! A lot of things here are going wrong lately.

Anyone else watching the skating? Gosh they go fast make me feel tired epwatching them but beautiful tobwatch. Loved the repeat of Robin Cousins 41 years ago when he won the gold medal.

Oh goodness, Asda are really playing up aren't they. That is a huge number of subs I had one thing unavailable (which was still available the night before so I reckon the picker just couldn't identify it and one short date apologised for.
I would complain if they have just changed your date.

I must have another look at my seeds too, I think I might have some more flower seeds. I am finding this bit of gardening emotionally hard as T always did any seed planting and I feel I am only doing it because he did and because I think he would want me to. This time last year he was hard at work out in the greenhouse and garden every day. Who knew he would not be here this year, I could not have guessed in a million years.

Afternoon All,

Very overcast here today, but at least no rain yet. I'm not a happy bunny as for some reason Asda have changed the time of our recurring delivery slot on our order twice since yesterday! We thought they had got muddled with the change of hour but it has gone from from 4pm-5pm to 6pm -7pm now, which messes up me watching the livestream. Also 4 things out of stock and 14 subs! Funny how the subs are often their own brands too. They keep reducing what you can buy, like 2 less magazines and no postage stamps anymore. I suppose if they give online shoppers less choice the pickers can do more orders. Not about the customer is it? You give them delivery instructions on the order ie to use carrier bags and put them in our containers, some of which have wheels which help and what do they do.......use no bags and dump things in their crates or leave carrier bags blocking the front door, ignoring our boxes at the side of the door. I am going to see what time our delivery actually arrives then ring them tomorrow as I wouldn't have just paid for a slot for another 12 months if they have changed the time.

Frank, I think we have said about getting rid of mats before as they can be death traps. If I had a mat in the kitchen, the way I cook and dish up I'd be forever cleaning it. You are lucky you haven't broken more bones but your body won't keep taking this punishment and you really need to make your home safer for you. I hope you haven't damaged your hip.

It does sound like Gill may have a little orchard of fruit trees! One house my parents lived in had an almond tree and that was very early flowering with small pink flowers. There could be damson too as they used to be very popular. It will be interesting to see what your trees turn out to be Gill.

I like the sound of your brunch AnnG, very tasty!

Mandy I had some seeds come yesterday, some climbing beans, carrots and some mixed dwarf french marigolds. I also found some pansy and viola seed, but don't remember which is which. I've also got nasturtium seed I saved too. I saw Monty planting his Dahlia seed and that big tuber! Those little greenhouses are ideal and keep the heat in nicely for growing things and you have done really well with yours.

Well I'd better get ready for the food drop now in case the time is a mistake and they arrive at the usual time.

Afternoon all,

Cloudy here and not very warm but at least its dry ,the wind is quite strong i heard it blowing in the night .

Oh Gill sorry your having problems i hope you can soon get an appointment and it's nothing serious .
Thats good your getting help to get the hedge out you would never have managed to get rid of it as there's so much of it .
It sounds as if the garden is really over grown it will be lovely to see what you have ,there might be some nice plants you can't really see .
When you've cleared it you can start getting it how you want it .
That's good you brought the green house with you too.
Just watch out that you don't need permission to render the outside of the bungalow as you will be changing the appearance of the bungalow ,wouldn't hurt to check first .

Oh dear Frank i hope your bruises soon heal if your really in pain tomorrow i would get the doc to check you over .
It sounds as if you need to get rid of that mat is that the one you tripped on once before .

Ann i wonder too what next week will be like as the schools are on holiday so there will be lots mixing again .
You were saying about your Snapdragon seeds reinded me i saved sme from ast year too .
I got a couple of packets of Dahlia seed ,Monty was sowing some so i thouht i would give them a go .
We had our new green house come last week, only another plastic one but it does the job and we can put it away for the winter .

Colin has put up my new retractable linen line this morning the old one was split you could see the wire where you twisted it round the hook i had visions of my washing all over the ground if it broke .

AnninGlos Report 28 Mar 2021 12:28

Oh dear Frank, do you need a mat in the kitchen, could you do without it, one of the chief causes of falls in the home I think. More bruises then I hope you have not done more permanent damage.
I won't eat much now until 7pm this eening.

I have just noticed that the apple tree is just starting to sprout.

Frank

Frank Report 28 Mar 2021 11:36

Morning all, I won't say "GOOD" As last night Ihad a terrible fall in the kitchen.
I went to get a drink and a piece of cake, went to turn rounded must have caught me foot on the mat. DOWN I WENT like a sack of SPUDS. I managed to sit up, but between Ros and I I couldn't get to my feet. Good old Tony came to the rescue once again. When Ros rang him, he was in bed, and had to get dressed to come round. Got me into the armchair. where I sat until I went to bed.

My right side once again took the full force of the fall. I have a lot of pain in my right hip and my right arm. No shower this morning, just a wash down.I am in "Joggers" and T shirt, and that's how I will stay today.

I did the VEG for dinner today, last night. and this morning I have made the Yorkshire pudding, gravy and cheese sauce.Ros will cook dinner as and when we decide to eat. Roast Pork today

If I had that lot for breakfast, I would eat for the rest of the day.Ann. In fact all I have had is one COT and three bottles of water. I have such a rgurst on lately.

Ros has just found a bag of Gladioli, which she bought ad forgotten about. Is it to late to put them in now. ??? Suppose they will flower, even if they are a bit late. TWO CHANCES. lol lol

I am now going to refill my water bottle and sit in the conservatory with the paper and my book.

Ros rang to say goodbye to Conrad, but he was already at the airport, his flight is at 11.30 am so had to be there2 hours before. Eos thought his flight was this afternoon.

Stay safe everyone, speak again soon. xxxx

Could Gill's trees perhaps be pears?

I think they have white flowers and there is a tree with lovely blossom near here

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Mar 2021 09:18

Morning Anng and all,

Grey damp and 9 degrees here too really miserable but tomorrow is suppose tobe good so I will look forward to that. Anng you could make a couple of cards today to keep you occupied.

Gill I was going to say I did'nt think they could be apple trees as none of mine are out yet and I have two Beauty of Bath and they are the first ones out usually. They could be Prunas of soem kind though as they are out in the village. There's one thats really pink but the frost got it this year and turned it all brown. I think Franks flowering cherry used to come out about this time of the year but he had it cut down.

From the ariel photos I sent it looks like you have a lot of shrub down one side of the garden. You may have more there than you think.

AnninGlos Report 28 Mar 2021 08:41

Good morning all, I slept but not enough I guess, woke early but of course it was really earlier. so it will be a tired day today. 9 degrees, dry and grey outside. I had better get dressed. Nothing planned so could be a boring day I think.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 28 Mar 2021 07:44

Are they white cherry blossom trees Gill? Unusual to plant more than one and a bit early for fruit trees with white blossom like apple.
Or....Almond trees range from 6-9 meters tall and have finely serrated leaves that usually appear well after the tree has blossomed. Flowers have five white to pale pink petals that fade to a magenta center.

Are they very tall established trees and are they in your garden our outside the fence?

Gillx Report 28 Mar 2021 00:58

Thanks everyone for all your support, I'm feeling a little better now and think it might just be an infection. I'll still ring the doctor on Monday though, just to make sure.

When you were talking about jet washing your flag stones Ann it reminded me about something I found in our garden and forgot to mention. There are lots of flags stones like a pathway here and there over parts of the garden so we're hoping they'll be enough to make a base for the greenhouse to go on as we brought ours with us from our old place. All we need now is to clear a space for the greenhouse to live, that's not to windy.

Since I cut some of the hedge down I can see more of the apple blossom trees, they are so lovely. I counted about 5 or 6 of them the other day and even OH has said how nice they look with all their white blossom and this is from the man who said he hates the mess blossom trees make lol. It's like a beautiful secret garden down there and can't wait until we can see it properly.
