Ouch ann that high back pain is not nice, If you think about it it is the action of your arms reflected across your back. Best leave the pruning a couple of days or get OH to do it (under supervision of course). You were busy planting seeds, I did scatter some more wild flower seeds but they are just thrown outdoors. Have still got some cornflowers to sew outdoors. and nasturtiums, although they don't seem to like this garden very much.

Vera and Ann, yes it was a tonic to be able to have a proper natter in the garden instead of a few words on the doorstep.

Vera pleased all went well with your jab. And hope you don't have any side effects.

Forgot to say good morning although I have been up and about for over an hour. Quite grey here this morning but 8 degrees outside so not too cold. I guess it is going to be one of our half misty type days.

I've planted my cue and courgette seeds and some salad leaves seeds today. I left the pruning as yesterday's effort seems to have brought on that pain in my back under the shoulder blade. It's from bending over and across that does it. Nuisance as it even hurts to breathe with it. It may be ok to do a bit of the higher up pruning tomorrow. OH has fixed the gutter pipe back on the greenhouse and needs to get behind the water butt tomorrow to fix a sheet of plastic glass back in the greenhouse. He's also fixed a wire drop down shelf back in there so I can use it. It's the only shelf the mice can't get to!

Mandy I had a smile at the mention of Mel's 'bloomers'. lol Come to think of it my grandma was wearing voluminous ones by the time she was my age also those Norah Batty stockings. She never went out without a hat with fancy hatpins holding it in place and always had a hairnet holding her curls in place. She always smelled of lavender or eau de cologne too.

I bet your chat with your friend was a real pick me up for you AnnG, especially as it has been a nice day.

That's good you have had your 2nd jabs Vera and good luck with your dental checkup tomorrow. I want to book a checkup once I've had my second jab. The dentist contacted OH for his, but they haven't contacted me and it is 6 months overdue now.

Better get to bed now. Did I mention that the SKY Q box has stopped recording now and we can't access the old recordings either? It has also been making odd noises for a few weeks so as soon as they have switched our broadband over we'll have to get a sky engineer out. I suspect it will mean a new box.

Lovely to have company AnnG. I am pleased you were able to spend some time with your friend. I can’t wait to do the same. I was hoping we might have friends for coffee on one of the Easter days but it looks as though it is going to be a bit chilly for sitting outside.

Our jabs went well today. Our appointment was 2.14. We were a few minutes early and expected to wait outside but were taken straight through, records checked, questions asked, my jab was timed at 2.10, OH’s at 2.11, we then waited till 2.25 and then could go. The injection was a little more uncomfortable this time and we both have an aching arm but so far nothing worse.

Tomorrow morning it’s the dentist for both of us. Not looking forward to that much though it’s only a check up .

I hope tonight’s a good night for us all.

:-D senior moment Mel.

It was great to see my friend, we sat on the patio and the sun was lovely we chatted for two hours and yes she had a good look round the garden. After lunch I pottered a bit out there and then sat out there reading for a while.

I thought for a minute I was going mad Mel. I read your post and had this sense of deja vu so I had to go back and check. You did post it earlier today at 12.19 :-D

Glad you slept well Ann. It makes a real difference to your day when you can get on feeling refreshed.

Hope Anng is enjoying the visit from her friend and having a nice natter and a look around the garden.

Edit

Wrote this and went in the garden and forgot to post it.

I think Gill’s trees were in bloom a bit early to be greengage but they could be one of the other plums. The greengage we had in our last house usually bloomed around mid April and the one next door to us here isn’t in bloom yet. I still wonder if they are flowering cherry trees. When Gill first mentioned it the ornamental cherries round here were blooming.

Whatever it is Gill, it’ll be fun finding out if it fruits :-)

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Mar 2021 15:11

things are certainly starting to move.

So exciting when the trees and flowers start to show signs of new growth. My plum tree is flowering white blossom.

I do wonder what trees Gill has. Maybe greengage? I had a lovely greengage tree in my cottage garden in suffolk in the front and the year I left it it had the biggest crop on it ever.

Morning Everyone,

Yes I slept well last night Mel and overslept till 9.00am. OH has some training online so I think I will plant some more seeds in the greenhouse before it gets any hotter in there. I might continue the pruning and fill a humper and like you was weighing up having a really good cut back with 2 of the clematis that were just flowering at the top last year. Lunch will need to be late anyway after OH finishes online.

You were up early AnnG. It's a nice day to enjoy sitting and having a coffee with your friend. Your earlier garden stints sound as if they have begun to get your back used to it.

Sorry to hear you have been having a miserable time with your head Vera, but it sounds much better today. Migraines do leave you feeling washed out after so have a nice rest and look at your OH's efforts in the garden. :-)

I bet Ros will be back with more plants for the garden Frank. I don't know where she finds her energy to do what she does. Enjoy the sunshine and reading your book.

Better get going now.

Morning all,

Another nice morning here in Devon with hazey blue sky and sunshine and looks like not a breath of wind but I hav'nt been out yet.

I think its finish off the front this morning and then back up the border this afternoon. Wish I had Ros to help me but I shall muddle on and get more brimbles out. Its the birds fault as they sit onthe wall and mess after eating the brimbles and ivy berries.

The deer have been tasting just about everything in the border and treading on other things they don't eat. The Clematis needs cutting down as it has flower buds on great long stems and is a tangle of live and dead stems so I think they can come down to about 18inches. Oh said I can have the big barrow up there today so don't have to keep emptying my little one.

Seems Vera had a good night so how did you ohter sleep? I went out like a light last night.

Frank Report 31 Mar 2021 10:00

Good morning all, and yet another beautiful day.

Ros worked in the garden until 5.00 pm. I Had prepared lamb chops, runners, brussels, peas and carrots and of course the potato's. She decided she didn't want a large meal, so we had a light supper. I changed the water in the veg and pots, last night, and again this morning. So we know what's for dinner tonight.

Ros didn't go out with Carolyn yesterday as she has the painters in, snd had to empty the wardrobe so the could move it to paint the wall. So they are out today. Ros has just been to the Drs. to collect the scripts. so that's another job out of the way. She is now waiting for Carolyn to come, and they will be off to do their shopping and visiting the Garden Centres.

As for me I will sit with my book in the conservatory, then onto the patio as it warms up.All in all another lazy day.

As we can't go out for a meal over Easter. I have told Ros to get a small Turkey and I will do us a nice meal on Sunday. I have also ordered a nice Bouquet of flowers, to be delivered tomorrow as a surprise.

No plans for Easter, other than we might have a ride into the Countryside to give us a bit of time out from the bungalow. We have some beautiful villages around and pleasant places yo sit along the Canal system. (WEATHER PERMITTING)

Enjoy whatever you are doing girls, will be thinking of you all. xxx

Good morning AnnG and all

Thank you all for your anniversary wishes. OH spent much of the day gardening and I spent the afternoon in bed trying to get rid of my bad head. I got up at 6 pm and sat up feeling dreadful till 10 when I went back to bed. Surprisingly I had a good night and feel much better this morning.

I’m going to shower now and then decide what to do this morning. We’ll be getting our jab this afternoon.

It’s already 12 degrees and sunny though it is supposed to cloud over in an hour or two.

AnninGlos Report 31 Mar 2021 07:38

good morning all. Vera I neglected to wish you a happy anniversary yesterday but I hope it was a nice day.

Mandy I don't seem to have any ill effects from the 3 hours gardening. Strange how sometimes after just half an hour I can suffer but yesterday it was three hours.

Already 8 degrees outside and the sun is rising so hopefully it will be another nice day. I will do a bit more in the garden probably after my friend has been for coffee this morning. :-)

Evening all,

Been busy in the garden today after going shopping and wiping down ,i'have been painting my wall boxes and sowing some seeds ,i've sown some Marigolds,Snap Dragon and some Sweet peas for the hanging baskets never had those before so it will be interesting to see what they are like .

Ann i love the roses painting and the little cottage it reminds me of my Lilliput Lane cottages .

Mel you can buy bridge rolls in a bakery but they mostly have them at christmas .
I had to smile when you said about your loaf ,i thought you had said i need to order some big bloomers :-D

Happy Anniversary to you both Vera sorry your not feeling so great today ,hope your feeling better tomorrow so you can have your jab and go to your dentist appointment .

AnnG your gradually getting your garden sorted ,watch your back thought it's easy to over do it ,you can have a rest tomorrow and enjoy your chat with your friend in the garden .

Annx Report 30 Mar 2021 18:50

You have been busy and got plenty done AnnG and so did Mel as I know those Bottlebrushes grow a lot of foliage and brambles take some sorting out. I planted my sweet peas in pots and the French Marigold seeds and cut back everything growing through the trellis all along the path to the greenhouse. It will be easier to pressure wash the path now. I nearly choked on the fumes from nextdoor's barbecue when they lit it. I think they are just as bad as a bonfire as the fumes get inside the house as well. I came in then as my back was twanging with bending down to do some cutting back. Maybe I'll do some more tomorrow.

I hope Vera is ok after her jab and that her head is better now.

Just come in and hav'nt achieved much up the border but have cut down some of the bottlebrush tree and dug out brimbles and nettles.

Happy 58th anniversary Vera to you and your hubby.
Sorry Vera I missed your post when I posted at just past 12 pm. Hope your jab goes ok and the dentist.

Iv'e got chilli out the freezer for him tonight and I am going to have spaghetti on toast as I just fancy that. Not something I have had in ages.

As to the sweet peas they were growing in a pot and had been pinched out so I just had to part them and put them in the tubs. I did forget to put a few slug pellets on them under a piece of wood as I usually do.
