I will have a look tomorrow and see which steamer we have. I have a sneaking suspicion that I am going to find two. I am sure one went wrong and I don’t remember one being thrown out.

I have just watched the second instalment of The Syndicate, I was not going to watch it but saw last weeks and found it quite entertaing

Ouch Island! That does sound painful. I hope you are not too sore and that it hasn't shaken your other aches and pains up too much.

Sorry to hear Mum is in hospital again Gill but, as Mel says, it is the best place for her at the moment. Here's hoping they find out quickly what is wrong and can get her sorted out. You are in a difficult situation with Sandra. She's of age so you can't force her to do anything she doesn't want but it does sound as though she needs a lot of guidance. It sounds as though she acts without being able to properly think through the consequences of what she does and it does sound as though the boyfriend is just taking advantage of her trusting nature. If the boyfriend is living with her, does she understand about contraception? Fingers crossed that everything will work out in time. Btw, you don't have to have a time lag between exchange and completion. if all the monies and paperwork are in place and all the parties agree it can be done on the same day. We did just that when we moved to our current address.

AnnG, the steamers are really easy to use. Mine is a Morphy Richards and a little bit different to Anns but not much. I've also had a Vax and mine had a separate container for detergent, though I think you had to use their own make. If you Google your model you might find there is a booklet online that you can download.

I don't have to phone my hairdresser tomorrow as she rang me a while ago and I have an appointment on 22nd April. I've got an optician's appointment on 12th to sort out my prescription sunglasses and to adjust the glasses I got from them a few weeks ago. By the end of the day one arm is really digging in my head. I only need to make an appointment at the tip and I'll have three "away days" arranged ;-) After being locked down for so long any appointment feels like an outing.

I've just spent an hour sorting out my Sainsbury order for Thursday and getting a Tesco order booked for 2 weeks after that. I do wonder if I could ease up a bit on all the wiping down now but it has become such a habit that I do it automatically.

I'm now going to go and read for a while. I don't watch a lot of television as there seldom seems to be anything much on that I want to see, but I would be lost without books.

That sounds a nasty trip Island. I hope you don't ache too much tomorrow and Doggie is as good as a hot water bottle to cuddle up to and he's all nice and clean after his blanket bath. Made my knees go funny when I read your post! :-0

Hope mums ok Gill but if she is in hospital its the best place for her to be if she keeps going numb down one side. Hope you feel better soon too. Silly Sandra losing the flat the social got her. I don't think she is world woise enough to live on her own. As for the boyfriend......well I suppose its up to her but she dos'nt seem to have learnt any lessons from the trouble he has caused her. Sounds like he is only using her but she is in love and first love always seems good at the time.

Ann I'm glad your feeling better and may have found what caused your dicky tum.

Better get some dinner on or I shall get told off.

Anng, no it was dry - I didn't lift my foot high enough. I must remember to use the slope in future.

Annx, I just popped in ahead of you. I'll read in a bit.

Ouch Island was it a bit wet and slippery? It sounds painful, I hope you will feel less sore tomorrow.

Annx Report 6 Apr 2021 17:59

Afternoon All,

Bright sunshine here earlier, but we just had big flakes of snow!! It is chilly outside though.

I think my tummy ache was probably caused by some icecream I had! I can't check the carton now, as the bins were emptied today, but I've had the problem before with some icecreams and I also daren't have Sainsbury's F&CI It is a well known reaction to foods with the food enhancer, MSG (monosodium glutamate) and I've read that it is being used on lots of foods including like chips and batter and icecream, so I bet that's what it was! OH thinks his was self inflicted with mindlessly munching crisps and choccy that he knows will affect his tummy! :-(

Mel you did a great job with the girls' headbands! She looks such a happy girl too doesn't she.

Island at least doggie is small to wash so a bit more manageable if he gives you more than the evil eye! :-0 You have some nice flowers.

Oh Vera (your Maj!) I can just imagine your hair. I am getting reluctant to answer the front door for parcels with mine now. It has waves and kinks and sticky out bits! Roll on next Tuesday when it gets cut and coloured! I wish my OH would steam the hard floors for me. He did do the bathroom floor once but hasn't made it a habit yet.

AnnG if your steamer is like mine they are very easy to use. There should be a plastic little cup to fill it with when you unscrew the water container lid. After filling it and screwing the top back, switch it on at the plug, then you just find the on/off switch on it and put that on and wait till you hear hissing. Then you can use it to mop the floor. If it starts to make a clatter noise it needs more water, so switch it off and fill with water again and switch back on. Once you have finished I leave mine a while and then tip it upside down to empty it. The cleaning pads just self stick to the base. There is an arrow on mine to turn up or down to increase or lessen the steam. Mine is a Bex Bissell.

Gill, we have to book to go to the tip so you are lucky to be able to just turn up. Sorry to hear your mum is back in hospital and hope they can soon sort her out so she can go home again. Sandra is a silly thing isn't she to lose the flat they let her have while waiting for the one she's buying. I suppose she doesn't read or understand about all the rules as she's no experience, but she could be getting herself some furniture with the money she's spending on a hotel. That boyfriend seems to have used her for board and lodging and probably free too. She needs to look out for herself and not do these things that keep costing her money. I hope you soon hear about your scan.

Is Phil limping now Mel? I think I might do a bit of hoovering of the squares in the lounge. It's always where OH sits that's worst.

Island Report 6 Apr 2021 17:57

I don't believe it! Went to the surgery this afternoon and caught my foot on the upward steep steps when I came out. Down I went, felt the edge of a step across my shins and something hard dig into my ribs - the top step? my hand? It bloomin' hurt! No rescuers about, my fella was parked out of sight and the surgery window is obscured by bushes. I wondered about going back and saying 'is there a doctor in the house?
I'm ok if I sit still but daren't cough, graze on right shin is sore.
I was going to do some sewing when I got back.
The dog's joined me on the sofa so I must be hurt :-D

Gill, the little tree is a weeping willow, I only called it a pompom tree because the 'pussies' look like pompoms.
I'm sure it is possible to exchange contracts and complete on the same if agreeable to all, so fingers crossed.

We had quite a blizzard this afternoon - snowing half crowns as my dad used to
say.

There's a fluffy ear sticking out from under my blanket - so much for bedside manner!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 6 Apr 2021 16:54

Gill is this the boyfriend who was in prison? Is he taking advantage of her? Did she understand the rules she broke? Silly girl when she had somewhere to live.

Vera how I wish my hard working cleaner was here, the kitchen could do with steam cleaning. I have the steam cleaner but not a clue how to use it I suppose there must be a book somewhere. Better look for it.

Gillx

Gillx Report 6 Apr 2021 16:39

Love the pics Island. I have a lot of plants in our new garden that I've never seen before so I don't know what they are called. One of them is the same as the first picture you sent so now I know it's called a Pompom tree, although mine isn't a weeping one. So that's my something new learnt today :-D :-D Love the pic of your dog what a cutie.

I hope you manage to get through to your hairdresser Vera. I don't need to see one as my hair is just long and all one length so it pretty much looks after itself. Do I need to curtsy to you now Your Majesty ;-) ;-) ;-) :-D :-D :-D

Yes we can go to the tip as many times as we like which has come in handy with the amount of rubbish that needs taking. The wind is quite strong though and very cold so I can't see OH doing many trips today. I did say it might be easier to cut it up into smaller pieces and bag it that way he'll be able to take more on each trip and would save him having to clean the boot all the time. Not sure if he'll do that though, I'll have to wait and see.

Mum's back in hospital, apparently she's had a few mini strokes and has to have a brain scan either this afternoon or tomorrow. If it's tomorrow they'll keep her in overnight. I was very worried about her as I had the push button people ring me at 7.30am this morning wanting me to go around to her as they couldn't get an answer when they rang her. I couldn't get there as OH was at work and when I rang her I didn't get an answer either, so I was really worried and was going to ask OH to nip to mum's friends when he got up this afternoon to see if she knew anything, but thankfully mum rang me just before OH got up.

It's a bit of a worry but at least I know where she is now and that she's in good hands. She said she feels okay now but these mini strokes have happened a few times over the past week or so and each time she's felt okay after them apart from some numbness on her left side of the body. Hopefully the hospital can work out what the problem is and help her as she's just assuming they are mini strokes at the moment.

I've been on the phone to the solicitor to see about a moving date for Sandra but they said they're still waiting to hear from the Vendor's solicitor so I tried ringing the agent to see if she could ring the Vendor and ask her to contact her solicitor. Unfortunately it went to answerphone so all I could do was leave a message for her to call me back.

I can't see Sandra moving next week like she wanted as she hasn't even exchanged contracts yet and that's normally a week before completion. She wanted to move on 14th April but that means she'd have to exchange contracts tomorrow and I can't see that happening. Sandra wants me to push the solicitor so all I can do is make another call in a few days as I've already phoned them today.

She lost the flat off the social as she had her boyfriend living with her which meant she broke the rules, so now she's paying for a hotel room which she can't afford forever which is why she wants to move into her flat as soon as possible. What with Sandra and her flat, mum in hospital and my health scare I'm not having a very good time of it lately, it's no wonder I've got headaches. Never mind I'm sure things will sort themselves out in the end.

SuffolkVera Report 6 Apr 2021 15:56

Thanks for the pics Island. I like wallflowers too and have 2 big pots by the front door and a couple of troughs by the back door but for some reason they don't have much of a smell, which is very disappointing. I think doggie's great. He just seems to have "lovable character" written right across him.

It's good that you are able to go to the tip as much as you like Gill. OH will soon get rid of that hedge.

It was sunny but very cold this morning. Just now I thought it had come over dark, looked out and we were in the middle of a snow shower. It was so windy that the snow seemed to be blowing straight across the garden. It's stopped again and the sun is out now.

I hope Frank is OK and had no more trips and falls and hope Ann is feeling better too.

I didn't have a good night again and am really lethargic today. I managed to do the ironing and a couple of odd jobs and OH is steam cleaning the tiled floors downstairs for me at the moment. I really need to buck my ideas up a bit.

My hairdresser told me to ring her today to make an appointment for when she reopens but I can't get any reply. I'll have to try again tomorrow. I washed my hair when I showered this morning and when I looked in the mirror when it was dry I thought it was the Queen looking back at me :-0. My very short hair is now just like the Queen's with curls and waves (though a bit less set).

Underfloor heating is good for drying the floors quickly and I can hear OH moving furniture back so I had better go and make my hardworking cleaner a cup of tea.

Love the pics Island and especially Doggie all nice and clean. We have had tiny hail showers this morning and now its a bit more of a shower now as I can actually see it onthe roof of my car.

The wind is extremly bitter today so no going out in the garden unless we have to, or shoud I say I have to. I have to corn the chickens at soem point between the showers. Oh has retreated to his study after a harty lunch.

Did the big wipe down and it seemed to take ages today as I was trying to get it done before Father Brown came on and I did just just that and had lunch ready for the sit down and then Father Brown was'nt on so we watch the soap box thing instead.

Just turned the heating back on as it gets chilly in here in the afternoons as its north facing.

Hope Vera is feeling a bit better today and Gill's oh manages a few trips to the tip.

Hoovered this morning and gave the hoover a hair cut. Pjhil;s gone down by the bantams but there's no sun down there now and the winds blowing down that way. The sky has cl9ouded over and its looking very grey out there.

Where's that naughty boy of our, Frank where are you ? Hope he's no got himself into mischief again. <3

Ooo there's a fresh breeze here! Sunny but I'd rather not be out in it - brrrr!

Mel, I swear it was Phil who picked his way along our fence a while back LOL
Very pretty headband you made for Mandys girls - pretty girl too.

Had a right palaver this morning sorting out doggies doings - he doesn't like the bed bath at all, ears back, giving me the evil eye, he can be easily bought with a couple of bickies though :-D In the middle of that there was a drowning bumble bee to be rescued - it was in the bucket which I filled to wash away the dogs indiscretion on the slabs which he'd sat in :-0 :-|
Talk about 'there's a hole in my bucket dear Liza.....'
Bumble bee survived :-D

Annx I sympathise re you tummy upsets, hope you are feeling better.
Vera, I hope you are better too.

I sent some pics

Afternoon all

Very windy here today, nothing new there ;-) ;-)

Pleased to see Phil is eating breakfast, that's a good sign Mel.

I wonder if it's all the wind we've been having lately that's caused the sand in your area AnnG. Hope it's not to bad it won't help the paintwork on your car.

I hope you had a good night's sleep last night Vera and your migraine has gone now.

OH will be taking more of the hedge to the tip later, it's nice to see the pile of rubbish slowly going.
