It was a fascinating programme, and how lovely that the extended family were all so close and helped out. Also that there was another younger baby for them to kind of copy and play with as well as their older siblings.
I hope they go on to have as good a life as they can, same as those older girls, I have seen them before and they do very well for themselves.

I also watched the recorded programme about the little mermaid girl, that was so sad, and her parents were so nice altho they ended up splitting up because of the problems of their daughter masking their own feelings, I think.

I cried at the end when her death was announced but what a lovely send off they gave her, and how nice that doctor was who looked after her all those years, he was in tears too.

Florence -- about 10 years ago, I took two little neighbour girls who spent a lot of time hanging around my house to the Christmas craft fair. I said they could each pick out a $10 item for themselves. They decided to go for the carved stone wax seal with their names on them.

The names are carved at the booth. I said they should get their English names and their (quite different) Chinese names put on them -- they are, after all, Chinese-Canadian, one born here, one in China. They were also as different as night and day -- same age, about 10 at the time, but one tall and stocky (and easy-going), the other short and slight (and self-centred). They didn't want their Chinese names, just their English names.

So the guy running the booth, a middle-aged Chinese guy, looked at me, a middle aged white woman, arguing with two unrelated-looking little Chinese girls about their names, and said: Are they yours?

I kind of just stared at him, and then laughed. I realized that of course he was thinking I had adopted a couple of babies from China. But I thought it was cool and funny. ;)

Had the same thing with my youngest in an odd sort of way.
There was a disabled child at primary school (where I was a LSA) and the children were 'encouraged' to befriend her. Unfortunately she wasn't the nicest of children. My youngest was upset - because she didn't like her!!
I pointed out that she didn't have to like her, or befriend her - that would be very patronising, but just ignore her (not PC I know - but realistic!)
When youngest was at Secondary school, I came in from the garden to find her and her elder sister arguing about trouble a boy was having at school.
Eldest was sayiing it was racial abuse- youngest was saying it couldn't be. I asked who it was - it was racial. Youngest hadn't noticed he was black!! I was soo proud!

As for Christa and Tatiana's backs and necks - one can only hope the body will 'cope' and muscle will build up.

its a cruel world we live in when people just cant help making public comments in the street about disabled people. it happens all the time doesnt it? even people in wheelchairs with say a leg disability get talked down to as if they are mentally disabled, disgraceful.

i brought up my children in such a way that they never noticed skin colour or much else in a disabled way. one day at a summer fete, my son was queing behind 2 girls for a candyfloss. they were dressed in identical tops and jeans and my son says aged 7,look mum they are twins.
one girl was black and the other white, he never noticed their skin colour.
my daughter who was younger then said the brown one must have come from "sunland" mum and i just said probably.

oh the innocence of children.

cant help wondering though if these girls live say to be teenagers the effect it will have on their necks and back as they will always be to one side. i wonder if they will suffer pain ?

Lol - yes, no noise today - bit of hammering , but when I lay my laminate floor (I was going to take a day off to minimise the annoyance - but won't bother now) I'll get my own back!
The son plays an electric guitar & the drums - but only in the attic - that I know my previous neighbour soundproofed. That's okay - unless I'm lying in bed ill at 4pm - when I CAN hear it!!!

I think (from a previous programme about Lori and Dori/Reba/George) that George has cerebral palsy.
They certainly had a hard life.

I can't believe the comments Tatiana and Christa's parent get when they take them out - how ignorant are these people?
The twins know no different - it's not like they were seperate then stuck together.

Google "Krishna and Trishna" and read about the beautiful Bangladeshi conjoined twins who made it through a marathon surgery to be separated. It was a success because they didn't share a brain. Thankfully they are doing well.

lori an george did have it a lot harder, especially on the back. bending all the time while the other one was in the chair. sorry that they couldnt seeone another, but they seemed very happy and never complained. puts our lives into perspective when we start moaning eh?

They were lovely - and so happy!
I'm glad the mother got to meet the Schapell twins.
In a way, Tatiana and Christa have it 'easier' than Lori and George - at least they are facing the same way - makes things much easier!
There was soo much love in that family.
It will be incredibly fascinating when they are older, to see how their conjoined brain works, though it will be normal for them.

did anyone see the programme on c4 tonight about the twins who were joined together and shared a brain?

when they began to learn how to walk, i felt it was hurting their poor heads as they wobbled and kept falling.

they made it to their 5th birthday and i wonder if there will be a followup programme on their progress in life.

i guess they are a feak of nature in some respect but but they were lovely girls.
