My best friend's mother died in the 60's in Australia after giving birth to twins.She already had 5 or 6 children. The 2 babies were given to the
mother's sister as she and her husband were childless.I don't know if the proper procedures were followed,or if it was done quietly within the family.Things like this did definitely go on then.

How sad is that?
I know that many (unmarried girls) in Scotland gave their babies to their parents to bring up, and they thought of them as their siblings.
Much better than giving your baby away, which was probably the only option then.

I hear many people talking about girls having babies just to get a council house.... it is no truer now than it was then.
The poor girl gets pregnant and SHE is the one who suffers. The lucky ones had very good parents, and today life is easier for them.

I would have DIED , had I been in that situation and had to give up my baby.

I know I may be off subject here, but it is one of my 'soapbox issues'... ha ha ha

Hi Dianne,
from what I know alot of families brought up siblings kids as their own and adoptions went within the family. This often makes it really hard and frustrating for us to track down links within our families, especially when we can't talk with those concerned about it. I have also come across this issue but in the 1920's. A colleague (who is in her 50's) at work, has come across this often and brought it to my attention when I was discussing this dead end.

ok b4 any of you think incest nooooooo. There has been talk in the family about adoption among other things being said i think i may be that baby for other reasons as well. i was born 25/12 and my birth cert was signed 3/1 by my dad /uncle would it really been possible in the sixtys to do this ie my aunt or cousin just handing over a baby to my mum and dad /aunt and uncle any help in this would be really helpful .
