ask if you can be given a sooner appt at another hospital,

its because people sit back and take whats dished out that the powers that be dont see a problem

Often, the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing, so to speak. I found this out recently, after a series of e-mails to my hospital of concern. Thankfully appointments now sorted, but I have lost some time on this.

after chasing speckys consultant appoint ment up after they had cancelled it 3 times for later appointments i demanded to know why, she said it was than her jobs worth but went on to tell me , speckys appointments are being cancelled because his consultant (spinal) is working in the private sector, so now when you ring up they even ask if your nhs or private, john has a disabling back condition which at anyone time leave him crippled, i said what do we do if that happens we were told to go to A and E AS HIS BLADDER AND bowel would be affected nice hey, micheal i also had a urgent MRI 6 weeks i waited which is good i expect its good compared to city hospitals x

On the appointment letter there will be the name of the ENT specilist.

Ring his secretary on the number given on the letter and tell her your wife needs and urgent appointment and you will take a cancellation if one comes up,(which they do)

I had a consult with the specialist and less than amonth later, I have been in and had my minor operation. When I had breast cancer diagnosed I was in hospital for mastectomey at the end of a fortnight. I count myself lucky to live here or I would have been dead years ago. My GP seems to have some influence.

MayBlossomEmpressofSpring Report 22 May 2010 20:10

Our local hospital is well known for getting bad press on television and in the papers, all undeserved, My OH has regular appointments usually under three weeks from being refered by our GP ,due for another sc an on Tuesday. He has several things wrong but each department has been excellent, Cardiology, Orthopedic, Diabetic you name it, can't fault the treatment or the Staff. It is a disgrace the way some people have to wait at other hospitals and we consider ourselves very lucky to live in Tameside.

MayBlossomEmpressofSpring Report 22 May 2010 20:12

Mac, OH was luckier than you, consultant surgeon said he needed five grafts, would have him in within three months and he was true to his word.

MayBlossomEmpressofSpring Report 22 May 2010 20:31

Mac, I'd say it was the luck of the Irishbut I don't think you are and niether is my OH, but he had had a heart attack fifteen years earlier the consultant said, according to the scans or whatever, and he was driving a petrol tanker. When he reached the depot he was naturally not feeling well, was taken to the cottage hospital in Penrith where they hadn't the facilities to treat him and he was rushed to Carlisle where they thought he had a migraine, he felt better next morning and they phoned me from his work to ask me to go and pick him up, so I think you will agree Lady Luck was travelling with him that night.

my hubby was told that if he fell, just turn up at a&e to get it checked because he could get clots because of his other conditions. Its quicker than being referred and his consultant will have to see him.

Told to him by retiring consultant

Tracey Report 23 May 2010 17:26

My husband is awaiting an appointment with hospital consultant was given an appointment 3 months away despite being classed as urgent. When we complained we were told that their only obligation is to see him within 18 weeks and they dont keep a last minute cancellation list which to me would seem the sensible thing to do.

In our local dentist they display a figure of how many people fail to turn up for appointments and it is usually around 5 a day!

Frustrating situation!
