on my peony... the first time it has budded... leave alone flowered. I have been fighting a bit of a daily battle with ants... there were 3 nice buds, you see, and I was so pleased with them but the ants had started eyeing them up so they had to be eliminated.... and I have just been out with my cuppa on squishing patrol, and there they were... 13 little buds, just , um, budding... the older three now have an edging of white, so will flower in the next day or so.... I couldn't even remember what colour it was... I bought it the first spring we were here, and this is the first time they have budded.

I am soooooo proud of them!!

Does anyone else get all emotional about daft things like this? lolol

Our tree peony is in bloom yellow flowers. The plants are red. Trouble with the plants beautiful blooms but only last two days, it always rains or we have wind in other words blink and you'll miss them.

Congrats. Daff, it is like awaiting that longed for grandchild, or being present at the delivery of a large litter of pups. Just when you think the last one has been born, out pops another little might, and then you count them all. Phew, phew and thrice phew. No wonder you are all emotional.LOL

lol Puss, I know... me too....

Julia, that is it, on the nail!! I have just got back from physio, and went straight out to check, just to see if any more had been, born, so to speak, lol, while I have been out.... none of course, but I have recounted to make sure ;¬))

Val, I would have them all over the place... I love big blousy fluffy ballerina blooms, lol.... like my Fuschia like that too, although I love fuschia however it comes. I have quite a few different types, and all are coming back this year, even though I should have lost them, really!

Pat, I would love a peony tree... they are so beautiful! I shall just have to sit here in the conservatory for the entire flowering time of my little ones, lolol.... I can see it beautifully from where I am sitting right now.

Anne, I had a clematis for about 6 years in a pot... it would go so far and then just wilt oin me... last summer, we shoved it into the soil... and it rewarded us with 2 lots of flowers that year... and is already just popping it's beautiful big purple flowers out. I have 5 clematis, now, scattered around, all opening at different times... plus a fencefull of *borrowed* Montanna from next door, which is absolutely stunning at the moment, massive drifts of it leaning over the garden fence, like a bride stopping for a chat on her way to the church, lol

Ooh Daff - I'm off down the garden to check my Peony. It's called 'Sarah Bernhardt' and flowered for the first time last year - just beautiful.

I also have a Tree Peony which has yellow flowers, PK, but the flowers aren't out yet, lots of buds though. I agree that they don't last long enough.

I'm really excited that the Paulownia Tree I grew from seed 9 years ago is flowering for the first time now. Its common name is 'Foxglove Tree', if you don't know it, and it is really stunning - covered in blue foxglove type flowers. And, yes Daff, I am emotional about it!

Wend, I have just googled that Paulownia... it looks stunning, and perfect for my front... Did you have to get it from a specialist nursery?

I haven't a clue what my peony is called... but it looks like she is a creamy white!!

Wend Report 20 May 2010 15:06

Daff, I've just googled it too. Actually, I grew mine from seed when I did City & Guilds gardening 9 years ago, but there are a few nurseries on line that supply them. Big Plant Nursery have them, 180-200cm high, £34.50, but I couldn't see if there is a delivery charge. Garden Oasis is another one - cheaper, free delivery, but couldn't see the height. You really need one that is a good height, so you don't have to wait too long for flowering. Having said that, the leaves are stunning too and people have always commented on the one in my garden when it's been in leaf. Have a look.

I also noticed when googling it, on one site it says that the flowers and leaves stop the skin from wrinkling and hair turning grey. Wonder if you have to eat them? I'll have to look into that!!

Off to do some gardening now. xx

Btw - checked my Peony and it's covered in buds - yipee!

Wend Report 20 May 2010 15:10

Yes, Puss, they do. Haven't heard of a Lily Tree - another one to google later xx

I am sooooo pleased I am not the only one to be sloppy and sentimental over my plants!!

Ann, the sedum from your dad has flourished again this year, and I have taken a cutting that is doing very well, too..... I absolutely love it! Also my beautiful rose.... I have it in a pot, and have kept it in the same spot I put it when you were here... it has dozens of tiny little buds on it, so I am really looking forward to it flowering... it flowered almost until Christmas last year!!

Wend, I shall look again, probably tomorrow or over the weekend... I don't mind waiting... I have all the time in the world, lolol!!

Dizzi, Saint Titchmarsh suggested that with a peony, if it hasn't flowered, put a fork underneath it in the autumn, wiggle it up a bit closer to the surface, and then mulch it really well... and that is what I did, so it really has worked... sounds like you got a bargain with that eucalyptus.

Marilyn, they are beautiful, aren't they? I had two packs of 6 tiny ones, bought 4 years ago.... I potted them on and forgot them... then the landscaper (drools) put them all in close together as they looked sad and sorry for themselves... and although 3 didn't make it, the rest are absolutely stunning... vibrant colours... once they die down this year, I want to spred them around a bit, lol And yep... I get really soppy abot them!!

Puss, if you see a bright red beetle thing flying around those lillies... squash it!!

I love Lilies... Taff gave me a pot of them last year, and they have flower buds appearing as well.... and the poppy seeds from Jude, they are doing well......

I love my garden!!

Love
