Why is it, when your find someone who is researching your ancestors, they refuse to even reply to a message. I just cannot understand whey with this attitude they belong to Genes Reunited. Do others find this uncooperative attitude at times?

You might have a bit of a wait for a reply if they're on holiday or sick. They may be mulling over your information and deciding how to word a reply.

It could also be that they've changed email addresses and haven't seen your message.

Is the message box still purple?

Genes is a free site .Many people have their tree here and have no intention of making contact.

I have had a reply this week, to a message I sent last August, so don't give up hope. Sadly, his wasn't the same person I was looking for

Maybe they are dead even..... or dying, or seriously ill.... or have someone close who is.

I'll nudge up a thread for you, Juanita, so that you can have a look at the variety of reasons. It is on General, and entitled something like *for those people complaining about others not responding* or something, and I am the Original Poster.

Your membership number indicates you are not a new member... so I imagine you know all that, anyway.

If you opened your account a good long while ago, and have only just started to research properly.... well, you have answered, in part, your own question. Maybe there are a lot of people out there wondering why you aren't answering them...

Maybe you answer every one... I don't know.

But some people really can't... and others just can't be bothered. You might just have to live with that, and get on with those who do want to contact. You cannot force anyone to answer you.

ps.... we get about three threads like this every week, you know!!

The attitude is with people who cant for some reason think outside the box and wonder if there is a very valid reason why someone hasnt replied,

Is theirs an older membership number,if so any possible chance they have moved ISP and with that comes a new email address which they havnt updated to this site,

Could they have had an illness that leaves them incapable of replying,,ie a stroke?

Have they no longer a computer?

Some reply after a few weeks, many months or not ever..so its just a waiting game.,but hopefully a reply will wing its way,in time.
