Valerie - Canadians eat peanut butter and jam! I think that's one USAmericanism hasn't slithered its way across the border.

I think it must actually be grape jelly down there. How much even worse. ;)

I'm going to have to introduce my mum to pickled beet sandwiches (just beet; we know it's a root!) when I visit in two weeks. We loves anything pickled, including beets.

Be interested to know if a sandwich you remembered from childhood tastes the same today if you tried it. Were ingredients fresher back then?
Even Spam (with English mustard) seems to taste different now..... What do'ye think?

My OH once worked on a construction site in the bush miles from anywhere. I recall that one day I packed his lunch after a heated argument. Two slices of bread, buttered, with a $5.00 note between the slices of bread.

He was quite hungry by the time he arrived home.

Not sandwiches however I can remember my dad crunching up weetbix, mixing them with beaten egg and frying the mixture into little pancakes/fritters.

Salmon or Tuna sangas with chopped onion dressed with mayo.
Or....... Sardines with chopped garlic and touch of tabasco sauce....Yumm

Morning Dizzi, I agree with you about the dripping. We love it, and are fortunate to be able to buy both pork and beef dripping, loose, at our local Deli.
But, it is virtually impossible to make any from the Sunday joint these days, as the animals are bred for leanness. Having said that, I am having a beef joint this weekend to use as hot beef cobs for Saturday evening meal, and cold to carve with salad on Sunday, as they have given out hot weather for us at the weekend, and we just will not want a traditional dinner. I will try to extract some dripping, but you need to have the piece of fat that butchers always used to ask if you wanted it.

Awe Dizzi, that's a shame, but I know what you mean. Does it have a fresh meat counter or is it all pre-packed. If it is a meat counter, perhaps the butcher doing the carving up, will let you have a nice large piece of fat.

I just had a horrid sandwich at lunch time from a well know high street shop.
It sounded and looked nice,BBQ chicken but by ek it tasted horrible with an aftertaste that will go on for days.
