My husband and his mother lived in Magdalen St ,
Colchester and have never heard off First Ward, or a work house , still it was before his time.

He was/is Abraham Smith born 1816 in Sible Hedingham, Essex and wife Harriet.

One of my ancestors is recorded as being in Colchester, First Ward, Magdalen Street in the 1841 census. He is there with his wife and two week old son. Was there a general hospital on this road at that time or could it have been a poor home?
