Anyone watch Derren Brown Investigates?

He comprehensively debunked 'psychic' Joe Powers on Monday night. What a good programme - you can catch it here if you missed it:

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/derren-brown-investigates/4od

He filmed a ‘reading’ Powers gave to a woman supposedly unknown to him and chosen by his agent. It was rather uninspiring I thought, but he seemed to provide a remarkable amount of information that seemingly couldn’t have been known to him, although most of it was rather banal. Even Brown seemed quite impressed. But when he gave a reading to someone else chosen by the production team, he failed quite spectacularly. Powers insisted he didn’t know the first woman and then accused Brown of setting him up with the second one.

At the end of the programme it was revealed that the first woman was the next door neighbor of his sister. Draw your own conclusions!

What the programme brought home to me was just how poor a cold reader Powers is – I can do a hundred times better myself. It also showed what a sordid and grubby business the psychic industry is and just how amazingly gullible the people are that insist he is for real, and how willing they are to pay him £40 a time for a sitting that is just a poor display of cold reading.

Next Mondays programme is about a ghost hunter. It should prove to be equally entertaining :-)

Oh my word !!!,,,,,he should be prosecuted,,,,,what a scammer he is.
I hope the people who was at the stage one sit back and see just how awful he is and what fools hes made of them,,,,but they get carried away in the hype they fail to see whats happening beneath their noses,,,,,,and the patter is the same used by then all private sittings or stage.
That one with his sisters next door neighbour had me spitting feathers at the whole farce of it,

well done Derren for the exposure.!!

next weeks should blow some stupidity out the window aswell me thinks,,,,:}}}}}

can be rewatched on CATCHUP ON DEMAND....

Yes, the stage show was quite sickening when it was revealed that the people who were answering in the audience had been to him previously for private 'readings'. He was just throwing out names the rest of the time and hoping for a connection, then cold reading - but excrutionatingly badly.

What amazes me is that in the 21st century, in a civilised country, surrounded by science and technology and where an explanation is freely available for anyone who bothers looking, there are still people who subscribe to this utter nonsense and actually pay good money to be totally conned.

The biggest send up was his claim on Derren Brown.

*You conned me*{}}}}}}}}}}the ass.

Yes, the famous 'Kafir Kreed' debacle. People still think he's for real! Even more amazingly, the GR resident genealogist, Anthony Adolph or whatever he's called, thinks that Acorah is a genuine conduit for channelling messages in relation to family history, lol. It just beggars belief that an educated, supposedly intelligent and scientific professional researcher could even begin to admit such a thing let alone advertise it! Imagine paying him hundreds of pounds to do some research for you in the knowledge that he has such a ridiculous and totally stupid method amongst his research tools.

It was a great programme (Stray and I thought of you when we saw it advertised! lol) and it was good to see that man exposed for what he is but I thought Derren Brown could have been a bit more assertive and pushed home the message a bit more. I felt a bigger DE DAAAHH! moment was called for. I am sure a lot of people just felt a bit sorry for the sulky Joe.

Yes, I was slightly disappointed that he didn't fire off a broadside, but I suppose that's not his style - he prefers people to work it out for themselves. Not that it was hard in this instance. Even the dogs were shaking their heads in disbelief.

I really would like to see this guy prosecuted by trading standards. Or better still, the police - for obtaining money by deception. Now that would make a few others run away and suck their thumbs :-)

Usually I can't stand Derren Brown - but all praise to him on this programme!
I'll definitely be watching the ghosthunter!! LOL

I can never see how anyone could believe Acorah - he'd go into a 'trance' which we were told was a 'spirit' taking over his body - and he had the strangest accents - even the classic for cr*p impressionists - a Welshman sounding like he came from Pakistan!!!

Yes, it will get cancelled 'due to unforeseen circumstances' - as did his pal Tracy Higgs shows last year.

I kid you not - that was the reason given.

Doh!
