One way to check whether any email is a phishing one

.................. if it has a web address OR says "click here", hold the mouse pointer over that phrase.


The actual web address will show in a bar that appears.


You'd be amazed!



One thing to remember is that NO bank will ever ask you to provide information over the itnernet.



Huia was caught out by this Hotmail email, and it does carry a virus. She ahs had to go to another email address, change all her addresse, etc etc

most definately a phishing scam, so in your hotmail don't mark the emails as safe and report it as a phishing scam

I've had quite a lot of e-mails from banks asking for passwords etc or my account would be frozen.
I knew they were scams as I wasn't with them, and as Florence said, they would never ask for your password (or PIN number either)
I either sent them to the banks phishing scam address or deleted them.
They're now on my 'junk' list.

hi helen. you are right not to give out any info. i had a similar email supposedly from the halifax bank telling me unless i changed my password immediatley my on line acc would be suspended. i got onto the bank straight away and it was a scam, the bank said it would never ask for my password etc. so i think if you give out the details, some one else may then just be able to access you emails etc.
you have to on the ball these days all the time. my emails are split into 2 lots. junk and other. the computer sortts them for me and i can tell from the title in the junk pile mostly that they are just that.

if their is a customer care centre for hotmail, you could try contacting them and tell them exactly what and from whom you received.

good of you to alert others through here in the hope noone gets caught out.

It's a scam - don't answer it!!!

If in doubt look at the phrasing.

For example the phrase 'we are having congestions' - not right is it!!

I don't know, I don't have an account...It sounds very dodgy to me and I especially don't like the threatening nature towards the end of the message.

Personally I would have deleted.

Account owner that refuses to update his/her account after receiving this warning will lose his or her account permanently.
