My GR tree is neat and tidy, but my other tree elwhere is very large and I seem to have many versions of it.
Any sound advice about how to manage a very large tree and how to stop duplications...this has happened over a few years and I am afraid of it disappearing if I attempt it without help and advice.

I have one master copy, which is managed using Family Tree Maker on my home PC. This is the definitive version.

The tree which appears on sites such as GR, Tribal and Ancestry is copied from my master tree every now and again and uploaded to the various websites by means of a gedcom file.

Similar to InspectorGreenPen, I have one master copy, in Family Tree Maker on my home PC. Ony I have access to it, so I keep everything on there, ie skeletons in closets etc and some names which I'm almost sure belong to my family but not 100% and which I'm working on.

I have other trees with Tribal Pages (one for mum's side, one for dad's) so that family members can view. This is especially good as our family is spread around the world and it's amazing when people can see it they start sending you photos & stuff to add!. But these trees are pared down from my master FTM copy, and contain only what I am happy for family members to see, ie no embarrassing stories or details too personal etc. don't want to give elderly aunts a case of the vapours!!

Any new information I discover goes straight to my master copy (my FTM tree). Then I can edit the info appropriately when adding to the Tribal pages tree.

Karen, I am an elderly aunt (though not yours). Even a gt aunt, in fact I think I am a gt gt aunt! I wouldnt have vapours over anything in any tree.

Thank you everyone for your help. It seems that the most organised use FTM so guess what I shall be asking for on my birthday in June!

I had another thought today, I am sure that many of us have bought the wrong certs from time to time, so is there someway that we could advertise these...maybe such a posting aready.

Is FTM a difficult programme?/

Bridget, not too sure you can sell them. You can put a postem on freeBMD. There is a thread on here somewhere, not sure which board. At least it can help others to decide whether or not it is the cert they want.

Thank you for the messages. sorry that i did not make itclear that certs etc would have to be feely given.

I have already started hinting what I would like for my 64th in June, so keeping my fingers crossed.
meanwhile I am going to do start a new tree as was suggested but the message appears to have been deleted.

I will let you know how I get on.
