In awarness of Cancer, and to my beloved wife who lost her own battle with breast cancer after a 6 year struggle in 1991 aged 39.

On 7 May 2010, 14,000 women wearing bright pink ponchos and 100 men wearing blue ponchos will stand on the Melbourne Cricket Ground in a pink lady formation representing the number of women and men diagnosed with breast cancer this year.

This moving and powerful event supports Australians living with breast cancer.

I didn't know about the Melbourne event, will take a look at the link you've given. I'd also like to say I'm sorry, Tony, to hear of your wife's battle, at such a young age too.

What a wonderful idea, this event really will raise awareness of breast cancer in both men and women.

Now that you have put this thread on the board, people outside Australia will be made aware.
Especially important perhaps for men, who might not be aware that they too can get this terrible disease.

So sorry to hear that you lost your wife to breast cancer, I am sure that she would be proud of what you are doing.

Thanks for your nice words regarding my wife.
She was a very brave and corageous lady, and was a spokes person for cancer at various meetings in my home state, Victoria ( Melbourne )

I think the "Field of Women" awareness is a wonderful idea,and for all those to come to-gether in support.

Australia also being such hot sunny country, Melanoma is also one of the most common cancers affecting our youth here in Australia. Statistic's tell us here over 1,700 Australians die from skin cancer each year here also.




Sending positive thoughts for all those everywhere in the world, who are affected by this silent killer.

Tony, thank you for this. I am sorry to hear about your wife. my own mum died at 44.

We have English friends who live in Melbourne, and, knowing my friend Paula, I bet she'll be there. I am going to ask her, as she is just the sort of person to support this . All the best to these ladies. xx

I am a breast cancer survivor ................. but it is now exactly 15 years this month since I was diagnosed, and began the surgery route. I am lopsided, but still alive.

Tony, I am sorry you lost your wife at such a young age, she certainly fought to stay with you tho, didn't she? You must have been so proud of her battle and of the way she spoke up about cancer too.

The Field of Women sounds amazing and a great way to draw people's attention to the need to be aware and to do all we can to help fund the efforts to find a cure for all cancer, as well as knowing how to get support when it's needed by cancer sufferers.

I have known several women who have fought the same battle, I just hope I never have to cope with such illness. Seeing my Dad fighting lung cancer was bad enough and my friend too, in 2008.

I hope the event is a great success.

I've just seen this Tony. I hope all went well and if it makes one woman aware and saves her life it's worth it. I work for a charity that supports cancer patients so I know how important it is to get the message across. I hope it wasn't too difficult for you.
