Hello
50 years ago today, Princess Margaret married photographer
Anthony Armstrong Jones at Westminster Abbey.
As her father King George VI had passed away in 1952, Princess Margaret was escorted down the aisle and given away by Prince Philip.
Like all brides, Princess Margaret looked beautiful, dressed in a white silk dress and a diamond tiara.
More than 20 million viewers tuned in to watch the first ever televised royal wedding service.

I too read that today,
I can remember exactly where I was,
Our P.E. Teacher Miss Claxton,invited a few of us gels,haha,
to her cottage, to watch it on her t.v.,
we also had tea.
We all felt so proud to be invited to a teachers house.
I thought how lovely Princess Margaret looked,
prettier than her sister.

I think there is something special about a royal wedding and always a lot of interest too.
That's lovely that your teacher invitied you to her home, a nice memory to have.
People always seem to remember where they were and what they were doing when a royal wedding takes place.

Actually I don't remember this occasion altho of course I remember her getting married, just can't recall where I was at the time, or whether I watched the wedding. I would have been coming up to 13 and I don't think we had a tv then. I might have gone to a neighbour's to see it on her tv but it really isn't stuck in my mind, unlike other occasions, such as Diana and Charles Wedding, I can recall almost every minute of that day.
It was a shame that their lives didn't work out the way they obviously hoped, but they did have two children together who seem to have gone on to live good lives mainly away from the limelight to some extent.

Following some other romantic interests, on 6 May 1960 Margaret married the photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones at Westminster Abbey. She reportedly accepted his proposal a day after learning from Peter Townsend that he intended to marry a young Belgian woman, Marie-Luce Jamagne, who was half his age and bore a striking resemblance to Margaret. The announcement of the engagement, on 26 February 1960, took the press by surprise. Margaret had taken care to conceal the romance from reporters. The ceremony was the first royal wedding to be broadcast on television, and attracted viewing figures of 300 million worldwide. Margaret's corsage was designed by Norman Hartnell, and the honeymoon was spent aboard the royal yacht Britannia on a six-week Caribbean cruise. As a wedding present, Colin Tennant gave her a plot of land on his private Caribbean island, Mustique. The newly-weds moved into rooms in Kensington Palace. In 1961, the Princess's husband was created Earl of Snowdon, whereupon she became formally styled HRH The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. They had two children, both born by Caesarean section at Margaret's request: David, Viscount Linley in 1961 and Lady Sarah in 1964.
