Thanks for letting us know RR :-)

Knowing some writing on the census, that was one immediate thought, as well as the lower case 'a' which is sometimes used as a capital O and can be confused

ie a fancy O can look like a large sized a....if you know what I mean lol

Just to let you know David has shared his tree , and i have just looked up 1901..it IS Water Orton B. Warw on the original ( the 'r' of Water is the old fashiones on that can be taken for an 's')

Does David Frank know how to get back to his thread, or is he expect an email????

(No disrespect implied as he does have a high membership number and may not know the ropes)

Water Orton is not in Birmingham & never has been, even when the neighbouring village of Castle Bromwich was taken into the city. (It has now been removed again & included in Solihull as has Water Orton.)
At the time you are looking at, it was Water Orton, Warwickshire.

Julie, the person is not Walter Orton, that IS the place he was born, probably mistranscribed as Wales Arton B. David hasn't actually given us a name.

I have just look on the 1901 & i can't see a Water or Walter Orton that has his birth place as Wales Arton B

Take a look at the image, or put the transcription/details up so someone else can look for you. It could well be a transcription error.

I believe my grandfather was born in Water Orton , Birmingham , but on the 1901 cencus , it states place of birth as " Wales Arton B ", i think this is a misprint , any suggestions.
