We have Sky in the sitting room and have never had any trouble with it. Was going to ask for Freeview when the opportunity came for over 75s to get one free receiver, and have it in the bedroom. Turned out we could not get Freeview, poor signal, so they fitted Freesat instead. So far, seems ok to me and will get HD when its on. Just wish I had bought the recording type box. We have that, Sky plus, and find we watch recordings more than current programmes, as what we like is not on in the evenings often.

Trouble with freeview stray, is that it relies on a terrestrial digital signal, and any interference will block it right away. The signal on satellite is stronger so unless the cloud cover is really heavy, it will be fine (or unless a bleddy pigeon sits on my dish grrrr.)

I rarely have any problem with my Sky box, and in three years I've only ever had to call the engineer out once. Therewas a faulty connection and it was replaced immediately no question. I've had to switch it off twice in that time to 'reboot' it, but that's not a problem and had absolutely nothing to do with the weather.

It's expensive Puss, but it's the only outlay you should have, and for a better signal.

Different companies have different deals on free channels, with freeview getting some different channels to Sky, or Virgin, or NTL cable. It all depends on the deal you get.

Everyone had to have the new viewing card, as much to do with moving to digital as anything else.

I used to have sky, but cancelled it ages ago and just used the Sky dish and box to get the free channels. A few months ago I had to pay a one off charge of £20 (I think) to get a new viewing card. They were blaming ITV for changing something or other, which meant we all had to get a new card.
It works fine, just as it always did , but Dave is not one of the channels you can see.
I have a built in freeview box in another set and that does get Dave (the comedy channel)

You mean the sky box without any of the packages? That's it, you get the sky box, with all the usual freeview channels on it, the satellite dish and it's yours.

There's nothing more to say except that if you then want to open up any paid sky packages with them, a phone call will set it up.

But basically it is freeview on a Sky satellite dish and box. Less likely to block out unless the weather is really bad, like thunderstorms, and more reliable perhaps than basic freeview, as all channels are available, rather than some areas not having a reception for some as on freeview.

Cost abotu £150 for the equipment and installation I believe.
