What do I do when I get no response

I've been notified of some matches. I sent messages to the owner and asked for information and access to view their tree but I've had no response - why is this?

Also, on my tree I can see that there are tree matches and record matches agains individuals but can't get to see who the tree matches are.

I am at a crucial point with a mystery on our tree and am pretty sure that the answer is on these matches so it is really frustrating to come to a dead end.

Any advice please?

If you go to your 'sent messages' Anne are the envelopes open or shut? If shut it means that the message has not been read, possibly because that person is no longer a member of GR.

Anne if you don't have access would you like me to check if the names appear in any trees on Ancestry? sometimes people join here then leave to go there!

Oh - I'm on Ancestry too but don't have my tree on there - I didn't realise that there were trees on there. I'll give it a shot but if I have a problem would you mind if I call on you for assistance?

It really is the most crucial part of my history research - you see I've been unable to verify any of my Granddad's details until the Irish 1911 census and I've also found out my Grandma was married to some one else - and my Granddad takes up where he disappears. so I'm not sure if Granddad changed his name after their marriage in 1908 or if Grandma left her husband and took up with Granddad.. it may mean that our surname is not our real surname or that something happened between 1908 (Gran's date of marriage to William Greaves)and 1911 where she is in Ireland and stating on the census that she and Granddad (Harry May)had been married 4 full years. It really is the final piece of the puzzle.

Don't lose heart just yet. If the messages haven't been read then it could mean that the person you have sent them to hasn't been on genes for a bit. Maybe they've lost their internet access (computer problems) or their only access is through their local library, for example. Something may be going on in their lives, possibly illness, that is keeping them busy so they don't have time to come onto genes.

Equally it may mean, as Rose says, that they're no longer members but you never know they may just answer one day. I've known people to send messages, not just on this site, and received answers a year, or two, later.

Some people also change their Email addy and 4get to update with GRU but might do it some months on- happened to me.

Some don't come on to this site every night - I don't. Might go several weeks without visiting.

And, some of course are just pure ignorant - I've suffered that.
