Mac for the last 5 xmas's I have been trying to get my OH to buy me boxing gloves. That and a punch ball (speed) or bag are always top of my list mind I hadn't tried telling him that they were to protect the young growth of my nails lol I also doubt he would believe that !

Kay one of my biggest problems working was I don't / can't wear gloves for wahing up, I actually don't paint my nails with anything as I wasn't allowed to in a catering kitchen.
Not working is the reason I can grow them but they break lol

Christine2 they aren't long just long enough to see the nail palm up and tap on the table to make a noise lol
Been to check my cupboard I have hand cream and I also (shocked) have nail cream. best I start using it then ...

thanks for the imput everyone I don't fret when I break a nail but I would like nice nails for once.

wear gloves for washing up in,liquid strips oils from your nails,,,
but get a Leighton Denny crystal nail file,,hes got a web site,,they are magic and youll notice with a few weeks...

.

dont use nail hardner all the time it makes them brittle over time as nail cant breath...nail creams, just massage well in round the cuticle it will feed nails better.......

Try the oil at night and hand cream in the day. Don't let them get too long though, as that's when they break off low down.

Incidentally, I'm a fine one to talk. I have been doing some serious gardening for a week, sifting stones, pruning etc and mine are in a terrible state :)))))))))

mmm they are soft and bendy well used to be but now are some times brittle when they bend they can break easy plus they chip at the corners.

I used to use a nail thingy cream but when your hands are in water all day it wasn't worth it. Now I am at a loss. I am careful about filing them but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

When you say they are weak Izzi, do you mean soft and bendy, or hard and brittle?

If they are hard and break off low down (close to or below the finger line) , then you need to keep them moisturised. Either with oil or hand cream.
If they are soft then you need a nail hardener, something like Sally Hansen or similar. Read the box though as there are several different types for different problems. Then follow the instructions.

Finally, always be gentle when you file and don't just file harshly from side to side.

Stray when one breaks or chips off I do use my teeth as a file or scissors lol

5exy I have been known to do that lol

Stray I used to do Avon years ago and it never helped mine (but then I was in a pub or restuarant) now I'm not sure if I could get Avon

I don't bite my nails and never have but nor can I grow them as they are very weak. Always given in to this when I have been working (in the pub trade I couldn't keep them out of water, nor could I varnish them)
Now I have (once again) 7 long nails (would have been 8 but I broke one earlier lol putting a harness on a dog)
so how do I keep them ...
